Update:

Eveything went well with my colonoscopy today and everthing was normal. Thank-you for those that e-mailed me and I want to thank everyone here for your valued feedback.

Jonlaw,

I have a 54 y/ dear, good friend that didn't have the colonoscopy when he was 50 y/o - like he should have. Around the holidays he was told he had colon cancer. Tonite I found out passed away.

Please, everybody, when you turn 50 y/o or even sooner - have the colonoscopy. Nobody has to get colon cancer.

I backing up my dear friend D Winx. I have had 2 colonoscopies within the last ten years. The first was done without being anesthetized and was quite embarrassing. However, they no longer do it this way, so the feeling of embarrassment is no longer an issue. Colon cancer has a high mortality rate...sick Don't put it off.;;;

I think doctors and hospitals are colonoscopy happy. They will give one to everyone who agrees, even when there is no reason to suspect they need to. Just my opinion, but then I don't like Doctors all that much. They are 80% drug trained legal perscription drug pushers.

An addictive person has only to go to a doctor and complain about a few aches and pains and he can get all the drugs he wants.

I disagree that doctors are colonoscopy happy. The colonoscopy has saved my life and my father's. There are no signs or symptoms until it's too late.

My Aunt died of colon cancer. My Dr. recommended a colonoscopy for me at 40 y/o. I, stupidly, waited until I was 45 y/o. I had pre-cancerous polyps removed. The Dr. said that if I had not had the polyps removed, I would be dead by age 50. My child would not have liked that.

I now have to have a colonoscopy every two years until I get the "all clear". Then I have to have one every 5 years.

My father has had the exact situation. He just graduated to having the procedure preformed every 5 years.

I believe and know that not enough people get colonoscopies. My good friend would not have died yesterday at the age of 54, if he had not gotten one at age 50.

Nobody should be dying from colon caner. It is preventable with colonoscopies.

If my father would've gotten a colonoscopy at the age of 45 he wouldn't have died at 48. So wrong. Colon cancer is a very curable disease but only if you get it in time. You can have polyps for years without any sign.....once you feel something or start having symptoms it's too late. My date started feeling something wasn't right in December of 2004. He went to the doctor, they found a huge mass in his rectum. A month and 3 days later, he was dead. If he would've had a colonoscopy at 45, he would still be alive and my granddaughter would be able to know her poppop.

That's my opinion.

Went to a good meeting, today. Have been able to make them daily and making different meetings besides just my home group. A friend of mine who is a councelor is learning the difference between meetings and treatment centers. As a councelor she was told not to share her story at the treatment center and to start dressing better even though the treatment doesn't pay over minium wage and she is 4000 dollars in debt. She has felt for the last three days uncomfortable at the job. Personally, if I couldn't share my strength, hope and experience at any job I would feel uncomfortable. She says the reason she hasn't left her job, yet is because of her clients. It reminded me of the councelors I had at a halfway house. One who I thought who had a good program invited me over to her house and offered me a beer when I got there. Another councelor I never got to meet at any meetings because it was just a job for him and the job offered him a stepping stone into another career. But another counselor shared her story as an addict 8 years clean and she was the one who introduced me to my first sponsor. She even drove me to my first outside meeting. I was glad when the counselor's husband has supported her to stay at the job even though she wants to leave. I feel that treatment centers should have recovering alcoholics and addicts to help guide newcomers to outside meetings and sponsors so they don't get institutionalized like I did. Some recovering addicts and alcoholics don't even go the treatment center route but just go to meetings.

Addiction is a scary thing, I know I had my own once. It wasn't drugs smoking or Alcohol and I'd rather not discuss it, but it made my life miserable, I knew it was doing so, I knew I had to get out and I couldn't. Eventually with inspirations, strength and the backing of God almighty, I finally broke my shameful curse... I'm not going back... not ever.

Since this is the Religion Chat forum, I wanted to share these common symptoms of Religious Addiction:

* Inability or unwillingness to doubt, or question religious doctrine, teaching or authority
* View of controversial issues as "black-and-white", good or bad; inability to perform rational analysis without applying a perspective based on religious beliefs.
* Feelings of inferiority or inadequacy while comparing yourself to prominent religious figures
* Magical thinking that God will fix you/ do it all, without serious work on your part
* Rigid, obsessive adherence to rules, codes of ethics, or religious guidelines
* Uncompromising judgmental attitudes: readiness to find fault or evil in anything that does not agree with your interpretive views
* Compulsive or obsessive praying, going to church, revivals or crusades, quoting scriptures, frequent calling on God in everyday life
* Unrealistic financial contributions to religious organizations or charities
* Belief that sex is dirty, or that our bodies or physical pleasures are evil
* Compulsive overeating and/or excessive fasting; self-flagellation, excessive self-imposed "penitence"
* Overly critical and in conflict with and argumentative regarding science, medicine, and/or secular education
* Progressive detachment from reality; isolation and breakdown of relationships not affiliated with your religion.
* Psychosomatic illnesses (back pains, sleeplessness, headaches, hypertension) which abate after "prayer".
* Manipulating scripture or texts, feeling specially chosen, claiming to receive special messages from God and/or to possess a unique understanding of scripture
* Maintaining a religious "high", trance-like state, keeping a happy face (or the belief that one should...)
* Attitude of righteousness or superiority: "we believers versus the world," including the denial of one's human condition.
* Confusion, great doubts, mental, physical or emotional breakdown, frustration with those who do not share your beliefs.

These are only a few of the warning signs.
If you recognize any one of these behaviors in yourself, please seek help immediately.

Hi Winx I am still here however I have had a crisis where I use to live at the carehome. My friend whom I was helping there relapsed back into active addiction again and stepped over my boundries which I had layed out so I had no choice but to leave so now Im staying at a friends house till I find my own place. My friend here has over 14 years of sobriety so I am safe in this aspect. And to top all this I have been working pretty much everyday so I have alot on my plate. You see the only gaureentee of not drinking is that one will be sober to deal with their problems. I love this thread and will never abandon it because sometimes this is my lifeline. Have a great day or evening everyone:wink:

Hi bud actually when it comes to a tweve step program it is more spiritual in nature than anything else. It is a God of our own individual understanding. You see religon is for people who are afraid of going to hell: Where spirituality is for people who have already been there.

I loved how you said that, Jonlaw. Was having a great time at one of our little meetings. It is really wonderful when you can laugh in hell.laugh The chairlady tried to keep the cross-talk down at the meeting but threw up her hands and gave up. We then all just shared as we wanted to. Just addicts who loved to party but now party without drugs.laugh Last week she made a real good pineapple upside down cake and this week she made a yummy chocolate cake. Next week she is planning to make a lemon cake. She said she brought the chocolate cake this week because she didn't want to get fat alone. I had atleast 4 pieces myself.laugh My friend who can't drive any more because of his medicine that he has to take which is non-addictive has to have his husband drive him. He was telling us that he is learning to become more docile and conformative. He takes estrogen injections and the chairlady after listening him rant after a while told him that maybe he should cut back on the estrogen injections.laugh I told him it must be nice to have a chaffeur to drive you around to the meetings and he said it was and he says he get to play with the window roller and the buttons on the dashboard. I thought it was hilarious when he said that his husband was two minutes late and he wanted know where his car was. I could hear him *****ing at his husband as he drove away. I was laughing my ass off.laugh

Hey Trout:

Glad you are having fun at your meetings because thats what its all about isn,t it to enjoy life on lifes terms. I have gotten so much out of your posts I just wanted to thank-you.

I am learning that even when **** happens it does not have to be a huge crisis and to harbour resentments. Things are lets say challenging right now in my life but hey I am up for it but clean and sober first. Well Trout have a great day or night or hey even both lol and will talk soon.laugh

I'm glad you're okay, Jonlaw. I'm sorry to hear about your friend. It's unfortunate, too, that it caused you to have to change your place of residence.

Working everyday? Don't forget to take time for relaxation and HALT.
