i wish i could quit drinking.

I'm pretty confident that if I can stay sober, just about anyone can get sober. Care to say why you can't, and hear from others who have, in the exact same situation? You're not terminally special.

i know im not special, and i know its a problem, i just cant seem to kick it. guess im just weak.

Congratulations, It takes courage just to admit you have a problem:thumbsup: Your not weak. I needed help when I quit. Don't be afraid to get the help and support you need.

I picked up a white chip from AA last weekend, an orange keychain (30 days) from NA last night, and a silver chip (30 days) from AA today. Some dude at the AA meeting gave me his blue chip (1 year) last week, but I still have a long way to go to actually claim my own.

And yeah, great thread idea Totage.

Congrats

Dude, get help.
AA works for me, so I am biased, but there are other resources out there too.

My sponsor just made 28 years. His wife has 40 years. He came to our new Tuesday night meeting because he said his wife needed a break from him. I am glad we have two in town meetings now. One of members who just recently broke up with his 28 relationship with his wife has agreed to be our GSR. He is trying to get both of our meetings on the new meeting list. We voted on giving the new GSR $100.00 so that he will have travel fare to make it to the regionals so that he can represent us.

Not to cause a rucus or anything. I have been to five different AA groups. Two, more than three times,WTF is a sonsor? I enjoy the little friggin games they play. Talking of the "wild" days, and how tough they are. But, when I ask of withdrawl, and what to expect. Not a single word! I was sober usually a day before going, respect I guess. Once I was sober for almost a month by myself! I am cutting back AGAIN, I hope for the last time. But, AA ain't helped me at all!

Withdrawal varies from person to person. The common ingredient to everyone withdrawing is that there's an end to the physical craving, that is, if you stop drinking. Depending on the degree of withdrawal symptoms, some need to go to a detox facility, and others should keep a phone handy, just in case emergency services are required. A reasonable gauge to best assess your own needs, means remembering your last time getting sober, and magnifying it based on the duration of this round of drinking.

My own withdrawal, back in June of 2003, wasn't all that bad. It was just the sweats, no shaking. I've met some who were considerably worse, even weeks after getting sober, but this is rare. Only 5%, at most, is about problem drinking. The balance is about problem thinking.

Ask People you might feel comfortable with for Phonen-umbers!
AND TAKE THAT FIRST STEP!
We Admitted We were Powerless over Alcohol,That Our Lives had become Unmanageable!
You were Dry usually a day before going to a Meeting, being Sober is a bit different!:)

I somehow got nominated or asked to give out the keychains at an NA meeting last weekend. I told the lady I wasn't really experienced enough. But my sponsor (sitting right behind me) told her, "yeah he is; give 'em to him." So I guess I had to pass out the keychains. I told them I was going to screw it up and I did. The thing is, for the first three or four keychains, I kept saying "who has 30 days sober" or 60 days "sober". They kept having to 'correct' me and telling me to say "clean". It was kind of embarrasing. Some people came up to me and telling me that I did a good job, which was bullsh*t; I did terribly. I could understand they were just trying to raise my self-esteem, but it didn't really help.

I also got out of rehab about two or three weeks ago. They said there is a difference in clean and sober completely unrelated to whether you're at an NA or AA meeting. They say that "clean" is when you have gone through the detox process and have most of the drugs/alcohol out of your system. And "sober" is when you're actually living and liking the drug/alcohol free lifestyle. Now I realize this is Mingle AA, not NA, and that we're probably sticking mostly to the 12 traditions of AA. So I ask you this; does the difference between the words "clean" and "sober" really make that much of a big difference to you? Do you get offended by the mixing up of the two? Do you get offended at the idea of one type of substance abuse victim going to a meeting for the other type?

Now I know about the singularity of purpose of each group and respect it if I decide to share at a meeting. I just don't see a need in getting all huffy-puffy over the misuse of two words that, in my opinion, mean the same damn thing. What's your take on this?

You can take someone and physically addict them to drugs/narcotics, happens from time to time in hospitals and pain clinics.
Can't do that with alcohol.

As far as the Addictive personality goes, I think its about the same.
I did lots of drugs, but always with alcohol.

Dry/Clean vs.Sober

Dry/clean means no drugs or alcohol.
Sober means living a different way of life than how you were living while using.

You could be Clean/Dry in jail, not necessarily sober.

Don't worry about it.

My apologies for not posting this yesterday.

June 10th, 1935 is officially known as AA's start date. It is the day that Dr. Bob took his last drink, it was given to him by Bill W.
In 1937 a gentleman (Drunk) from Cleveland, Ohio was sent to Akron by his wife to 'take the cure' and get sober with the help of AA. His name was Clarence Schnider. Clarence got sober and returned to Cleveland and help found AA in that area. In some circles he is considered a co-founder along with Dr. Bob and Bill W. Clarence was very active in helping others and building AA in the area. One of the guys he sponsored was a guy named Bob Anderson. Bob got sober and stayed sober for over 20 years that I know of. He help start the Acceptance group in Lakewood, CO. a group that I was a member of for many years. He helped and sponsored a guy named Gene Johnson. Gene was sober over 20 yrs before he died. Gene sponsored and helped a guy named John, P aka Cowboy John. John is still sober as far as I know, now over 30 yrs. John worked with, and sponsored a guy named Kelly L (me-michiganman3) who has almost 28 yrs sober.
I owe a huge debt of gratitude to those who came before me and made sure that the gift of sobriety was available when I was ready to accept it.
June 10th is also my daughter's birthday, her name........................................................................

Grace.

In a little under 1 1/2 hours, I'll be 6 years sober, and well into my 7th. ;-) As it turns out, not only did I get my 6 year solid silver coin for free from my vendor, but the meeting bought one for me too. That's a first. Of course, the newcomer's chip is the most expensive chip you'll ever get.
