I am glad you are, Conrad. We are starting to study the traditions at one local group that meets on Monday nights. It was interesting to read of the anarchy.

Here's a clue that maybe you're not calling your sponsor enough. Your spouse/significant other calls your sponsor more than you do.
Over the past month, the wife of one guy who asked me to sponsor him, called me 4 times, and finally got up the nerve to say who she was. The first 3 times, it was "Oh I'm sorry, I must have the wrong number." Finally, she got desperate enough to ask if sponsored Mike F. I said, "Older gentleman? Yea, I guess, he hardly calls"... So she explained that he'd been drinking. Obviously, he wasn't ready to talk to me, so I talked to her for a bit, and strongly suggested she go to alanon and take care of herself. Later that night, I gave her number to someone in Alanon I know, and suggested she could use a call. When the guy gets back to meetings and can't explain how it happened, I think I'll offer an explaination. |

I picked up a white chip from AA last weekend, an orange keychain (30 days) from NA last night, and a silver chip (30 days) from AA today. Some dude at the AA meeting gave me his blue chip (1 year) last week, but I still have a long way to go to actually claim my own.
And yeah, great thread idea Totage. |

30 days. I remember mine. I was in Memphis at the time, and asked a fellow member in Orange County to mail me one, simply because where I was going they had poker chips instead. In my motel room, I kept it in my big book, in the envelope, until Midnight, July 16, 2003. During the same period, there were 104 mph winds, someone called me and told me they were suing me, and the winds knocked out power for a week, and my drinking had cost me more than $35K. Powerlessness really was my dilemma. I won the lawsuit a couple years ago, and the appeal, and the state supreme court opinion, and set a precedent for the communications decency act.

We used to have plastic poker chips, 30 days,90 days,6 months, 9 months.
The joke was once you had all four you could play poker at the Friday night's poker game. I still have mine. Congrats. |

Way to go EZ4Sheezy. I keep my 'Just For Today' book in my locker at work. I go to both NA and AA. I also get a lot of help with my 'Daily Reflections' book. To me, 'My gratitude speaks when I care and when I share the NA way' is just as important as when 'I always want the hand of AA to be there." I have a lot of friends in both programs.

Tonight at 8:30 I'll be speaking in the Indian Lake AA meeting, and Sunday night, in Bellefontaine, if anyone local is curious. It's been a while since I've done a double header, but it's more or less of a once a year thing. I'll have 6 years on the 16th of next month, assuming I keep doing what I'm doing.

Hey any suggestions for what I can tell a friend who's last abusive drug addict girlfriend finally got him into AA and after 90 days sober he wants to move in with her and she is still using? Like Cutiepie said, "It increases the risk of relapse". His life is depending on his recovery. If she's still using, she could steal his money or sell some of his things for cash. She's abusive? Why does he want to be with her? AA doesn't recommend being in relationships for awhile. I've heard one year. That way the person recovering can focus on their recovery instead of focusing on somebody else. What sane person would want to live with an active drug addict? |

i wish i could quit drinking. I'm pretty confident that if I can stay sober, just about anyone can get sober. Care to say why you can't, and hear from others who have, in the exact same situation? You're not terminally special. |
