Update on covid in Brazil

They sure rolled that vaccine quite quickly while they were telling us ( at least here in France ) that a vaccine wasn't going to be available for at least 3 years.

Hi Fred waving I am sure many people share that concern and it is one reason for reluctance to be vaccinated . This article explains what experts have to say on the matter ....

http://www.healthline.com/health-news/heres-how-it-was-possible-to-develop-covid-19-vaccines-so-quickly

The phase three clinical trial (on humans ) ran for approx two months before data was released and emergency approval was sought . That is not the end of the trial . Safety Data and efficacy will likely continue to be collected and analysed over the next two years .. which is standard practice for any vaccine

A trial is about to commence where candidates vaccinated for covid will be infected with the live virus . I am very interested to see the outcome of this trial . As yet there is still uncertainty over the level of immunity covid vaccines provide and how long protection lasts , whether any of the vaccines are effective against the latest variants which are thought to have antibody escape mutations and how those previously exposed to covid will react . Obviously long term data will only be available over time .

Do you know what the vaccine uptake has been in France and which vaccines are being used ??

In New Zealand only the Pfizer vaccine has been approved for use by medsafe (at this stsge)... Vaccination of border workers and frontline health workers is currently underway .

I'm not keeping up with vaccine news that much. I do know that there are a number of deaths caused by Covid vaccine. Now I'm wondering: A. Get Covid = Maybe die. B. Get vaccine = Maybe die... which is better? Maybe die or Maybe die?

understandable to have such uncertainty Fred . I am sure throughout history when vaccines were first introduced the exact feelings were common . Without a doubt vaccinations in general have reduced the incidence of disease and saved billions of life. Surely you are forgetting option C survival :-) waving

I have an idea. Instead of relying on medical science to escape from Covid, let's use anti-science and anti-reality methods such as global meditation, crystals, herbs and whatever chiropractors are promoting.

Decide to get a vaccine or decide not to get a vaccine based on doing your OWN research.
Look at what medical experts on BOTH sides of the issue are saying.
Unlike Iran that has a "Supreme Leader" that dictates what people MUST do
there is NO Supreme medical expert who can dictate what you MUST do, at least not in the United States......YET.

I'm fortunate because I'm able to go to stores when fewer people are in a store.
I retired so I don't have be exposed to others who might not be as cautious as I am at a job.
I have done what I can to minimize my risk which has included wearing a mask, which I hate doing, social distancing and large gathering. But I've been taking precautions for many years during "flu season" and (knock on wood) despite not ever getting a flu shot I haven't gotten the flu in over 20 years.

I weighed the pro's and con's before deciding to get a vaccine despite my ability
to minimize my exposure. I won't preach to anyone to make the same decision I came to.....I will just say do your own research and make an educated decision based on ALL the available information.

โ€œGlobal deaths from Covid-19 crossed 3 million in the past week.

According to WHO, it took nine months for the world to hit its first million Covid-19 deaths, and only three months to log its most recent million.โ€

I got my first covid-19 vaccine today. I received the Moderna one, and get the second dose in four weeks. No side effects, just a little soreness at the sight of the shot, which is typical with most vaccinations.

โ€œGlobal deaths from Covid-19 crossed 3 million in the past week.

According to WHO, it took nine months for the world to hit its first million Covid-19 deaths, and only three months to log its most recent million.โ€

The death rate has actually dropped from 3% to 2% :)
The 3% was stable for months, telling us it isn't all that bad, doesn't get worse, and is nothing to fear really.

It means a whopping 98% recovers!! I never get this focus on death rate. Only if it isn't stable and goes up and up, then it's vital to keep an eye on it.
Natural recovery rate is fare more interesting and important. Media and governments use the death rate to sow fear, and the masses hear, "3 million, OMG!!! I'm getting a vaccine!!"
Putting it into perspective is important, most people don't think of that.

RECOVERY has exceeded 120.000.000!!! Now THAT is news! It is 123.430.858 million people! Hooray!! Nothing to fear!

And for people thinking the vaccinations have anything to do with this... think again, as the daily cases are on the rise!

Received my second jab yesterday of the AZ vaccine, 11 weeks after the first jab, no side effects again this time. When I see on the tv what's happening in India, it's heart breaking, hopefully they will be able to increase their own vaccination programme very quickly and save lives.

@crystal .. re nothing to fear ... does that mean If you required hospitalisation for a non covid event that you would be happy to be warded with covid /potential covid patients if there was a capacity issue at the hospital ????

Congrats on the first round. drinker

I'm not pro, or anti vaxx.

I've had both rounds of the Pfizer vaxx.
So, I'm fully vaccinated, and, for the
most part, housebroken.
But, I still haven't lost that urge to pee
from hotel balconies.
