People in the south, mostly females, I don't know exactly what the males might use, we call people "hon, sugar, darlin, etc". Most of the time, it's a form of endearment, but you'll find waitresses, clerks, etc. that don't know you, referring to you in one of these ways, simply acknowleding that you exist since we don't know your name. Twice, in the past month I've been reproached because I called someone "hon". Neither time did I know this persons name, one even after 4 emails wouldn't sign or say his name, the other mocked me in a thread. Since there's people from all over in these forums, do you find it offensive to be called any of the names mentioned above?

People are stupid so we all try to understand meanings based on our limited understanding of various definitions, this is not the best way to interact, if anything this is the number one cause for hard feelings.

Anything can mean just about anything to anyone that feels like taking it any way.

Try to understand meanings based on body language and perceived intent, not for preconceived notions of definitions of words that the person talking may not be referring to.

Or YOU will always be offended by something from someone regardless of meanings. If in doubt ask before reacting.

Holy Hell Bushido!...there is one well researched fellow!

I suppose regional dialect is pretty much irrelevant in the greater social context. People are either good natured and accepting....Cool Cats and Babydolls. Or they are not good natured and accepting...A**holes and B*tches.

Never heard of a cool and good natured soul being unaccepting of others.

Just a thought.

Jumping to conclusion is still jumping to conclusion.

Imagine if I called you a twit. 99% of the time that would be an insult.

Well what if I just meant you are someone who uses twitter. lol
