Good Lord. Let's see now...people are offended at all the overweight stuff. People are offended at the sexually explicit stuff. People are offended by the regional slurs. And people are offended by being called non-threatening, non-abusive, non-profane names, too. And these people come to dating sites & public forums. Anonymously. Part of why I'm scared to address anyone by anything any more.
I call those I dont know, sir, ma'am, especially if they are older than I. All depends on circumstance of our meeting if professional - I address in a professional manner. If in a social scene, I usually avoid pet names, but I am known for using 'sunshine' and or 'sexy'. But only after I get a read on the other person and feel they would not mind, unless my intent is that they mind  I do that, too. But I call people I know "baby". It's not conscious; it just slips out. I say "yes mam" or "yes sir" to people of all ages. I said "yes mam" to a teenage waitress one evening and she just looked at me with this horrified look and asked, "Do I look that old?"  I smiled and told her no and that I was only using the manners my Mom had instilled in me. It's just habit with me. Yep. Military, Christian parents; strong code of manners, no excuses for not using them. The taste of Ivory liquid (getting mouth washed out) will be with me always. I don't use racist epitaphs of any kind. I don't use sexual ones either (unless with my friend lol). Is it time to go to "Hey, you?" Dang. What a prickly world it's turned into. Just sayin'. Or, trying not to.... |

aight answer this then,, do you live below the mason dixon line???? Yup. Though, you do realize that not all areas are the same, right? Have you been to Northern VA? It's only southern because it's below the mason dixon line.  nah i wouldnt know anything about reston parkway,, fairfax county parkway,, deff nothing about elden st,, or nothing like that I'm not saying you haven't been there. I was really asking if you realized that Northern VA is totally different than the rest of VA. Anyway, no big deal. |

Yes, I do realize VA is a southern state. But no, compared to other southern places, Northern VA just isn't quite there. I guess it's a matter of opinion as well. But the south, like anything, is comprised of many, many different aspects. To generalize that it's all rural, small town, unsophisticated, blah, blah blah is simply stereotyping. No doubt, Atlanta is considered a southern city but it bears hardly any resemblance whatsoever to to the narrow-minded view most people have of what the south is. Yep, we all have different opinions.

Even regional differences can vary immensely from even one state away. About twenty years ago, I went with my then-roommate to lower Michigan for a wedding. Getting the munchies, but not wanting to spoil my dinner, I went to the local convenience store to buy a box of potato chips. This is a common thing in Wisconsin -- a box containing two bags of potato chips, sort-of like a picnic pack. They looked at me like I had three heads. They had never even HEARD of something so "ridiculous" as a BOX of chips! There are boxes of chips?

We have crisps(chips) in tubes here in the UK and we also buy chips(fries) wrapped in newspapers from the fish and chip shop ( both taste delicious) |
