I'm really not comfortable with being called "Sir." After I'm knighted by the Queen, fine, but not until then.

I will most often refer to anyone older than myself as "sir" or "ma'am". However, when somebody (anybody) calls me "sir", I always have to look around to make sure my dad isn't standing behind me.

I say "yes mam" or "yes sir" to people of all ages. I said "yes mam" to a teenage waitress one evening and she just looked at me with this horrified look and asked, "Do I look that old?"rofl rofl

I smiled and told her no and that I was only using the manners my Mom had instilled in me. It's just habit with me.

I'm in the South and have been here all my life......and THIS is the way I am........WTG Goof!!!!

See, Goof, even you made the reference to it being "habit", but southerners are taught yes sir and yes mam too. I moved to Montana my senior year of high school and one of my teachers told me it was so nice to hear that respect because students in that area never referred to their "elders" as such.

I feel weird if someone calls me ma'am. Especially when they are older than I am.

Girl: Come here loverboy
Boy: And if he doesn't answer
Girl: Oh loverboy
Boy: And if he still doesn't answer
Girl: I simply say
Girl: Baby, oh baby, my sweet baby, you're the one
Both: Baby, oh baby, my sweet baby, you're the one

Some other Southern Charms:

Stand when a lady enters the room.
Remove your hat when addressing a lady.
Open and close the car/truck doors.
When leaving a lady for the evening assure that she makes it INSIDE her house and is safe.
Always go to the door to pick up a lady and not sit outside honking your horn.
Hold a lady's chair for her at restaurants.

Any other ideas?????
