You are a racist it you fly or have a confederate flag any where in your house, car or person.

You may think that you are honoring your ancestor who fought for the rights of states, to do what? Enslave others was the biggest cash cow they had and what they were fighting to keep.

Growing Up When I saw the Klan I saw that flag. How was that honoring your ancestors, oh yes that is right they too thought it was perfectly acceptable to torture, brutalize and dispose of a entire race, not unlike the Nazi.

You can hide behind your ancestors, your heritage, but you are just scared, angry little ignorant people.

where is all this hate emanating from???

A flag is a piece of fabric - we as people are to blame for the importance made on the fabric - regardless of past representation - it is what you want it to mean. jmo

what happened to peace and love????

Calm down. The civil war wasn't about slavery my dear. It was about keeping power for the states. Those that fought for the south weren't fighting as hard as they did just to keep their slaves. They believed they were fighting potential for corruption. They were partly right in the sense that preventing the consolidation of power would keep corruption at bay.

"Our country is now taking so steady a course as to show by what road it will pass to destruction, to wit: by consolidation of power first, and then corruption, its necessary consequence."

-Thomas Jefferson

Exactly, I lived down in Arkansas for a period of time (horrible, I don't like the country) and I seen the flag everywhere and couldn't understand how they didn't associate it with slavery and everything the south stood for. Is it about being a rebel for them, if so I am an anarchist and I don't need a flag to be a rebel. It just shows me again and again that we are a divided country (not united). I was raised in Decatur, Illinois and have never met too many racist people here, I had to move to the south to meet them, but they always justify it with stupidity: "Blacks are lazy and don't want to work" or stupid **** like that, well I'm white and I've met just as many white lazy peices of crap as I have any other race. When it comes down to it we should take each indvidual person as they are not what color they are.

Yeah, I've heard all about it not being about racist, but of course it was all the political and social problems of that era were derived from slavery and the government and the north wanting to do something about it. Take the free labor away and you have a meltdown of the local economies. I would be scared too.

I have never displayed a southren cross, but it is part of my heritage. My ancestores were poor Irish that settled in Virginia, & to my knowledge were not slave owners. That flag is part of Virginia's history, the war was about more than slavery, just as the current war is about more than freeing Iraq. I understand how it could offend. Some people with no southern heritage use the Southren Cross as a symbol of white supremecy & that is a shame. I never understand why It see it displayed in Ohio & Wisconsin.

You see it there because either they (or there ancestors) are form the south. If not then they probably have it up because they are racist. I've seen one rebel flag up here (Decatur, Il.) in my 31 years and it wasnt up too long.

My argument to the flag is that it's called a "rebel flag" not a "slavery flag". The states just didn't want to be dictated a centralized government. I highly doubt these men would fight like they did just to keep slavery. Even though they were outnumbered and out funded they still gave us a hard fight. When someone flies that flag to make a statement about slavery, then i would consider it racist. But when someone flies that flag because they use it as a symbol for rebellion against federal government, or anything like that, i would not jump to conclusions.

People say what they want. But when we over simplify things like this we are CREATING racism. Be careful not to cross that fine line...

Does that mean that my neighbor is racist? He built a replica of the General Lee. It has the flag on top of it. Oh wait I see just as many colored people over at his house as I do white people. I agree that there are too many people that still believe the flag is a sign for racism. But I also agree that it means whatever you want it to mean. I live less than 5 miles from a group that is part of the KKK. Not a single one of them that I know has a rebel flag being flown or hung on anything. I do not agree with racism, and yes it is out there and always will be. Some of the best people that I have ever met are of a different race, but what it all comes down to in the end is that we all bleed the same blood and breath the same air.

You may all be right. It could be what it means to that person. Our own perception. But to those people who it has hurt (their ancestors were hurt) the flag still brings up bad feelings and to some who are still alive, bad memories. You can't change how those people think or feel, but you can do something to not keep that flag displayed. Who cares about history anyway (don't get me wrong I like history and know a great deal about it, I was an history major), we should focus on the now and the future. I don't know anything about my ancestory and where I come from, but I still know who I am. I am with u too Danny!

Such separatism!!!noway I agree with fran.....a flag is just a piece of material made by the people who live in said country/state.

A united flag of Earth would be nice.......since WE ALL live in it!!!flowerforyou
