Topic: Take Your Flag And Stove It | |

You are a racist it you fly or have a confederate flag any where in your house, car or person. You may think that you are honoring your ancestor who fought for the rights of states, to do what? Enslave others was the biggest cash cow they had and what they were fighting to keep. Growing Up When I saw the Klan I saw that flag. How was that honoring your ancestors, oh yes that is right they too thought it was perfectly acceptable to torture, brutalize and dispose of a entire race, not unlike the Nazi. You can hide behind your ancestors, your heritage, but you are just scared, angry little ignorant people. |

exactly so why are they still waving that tired flag. I should forget but they can keep re-enacting their tired past.

my whole point was to call them out and to say you aren't fooling anyone and you are right it is good to be able to spot them as well as to know that their a many that are insensitive.

I have no fear of anger Brian, in fact they deserve have fingers pointed at them. This is my feeling, believe you I come from a family of turn the other cheek and has that done any good no. When I see a child doing something dangerous or wrong in a playground, i am the parent that says something while the rest of the parents pretend not to see. That is who I am. Sorry

Growing up when I saw the klan I saw white sheets and clowns and very dangerous ugly people.
If I may I'd like to share this personal story. I remember the day when my very young daughter came home. (I think it was before kindergarten) She asked me, "Mom, what are the cool klutz clams?" She was so small...she didn't know what she was saying. She had obviously heard something and she had questions. Honestly, it took me a moment to get a grip on what she was saying. That moment was followed by a stunned chill and a rapid feeling of illness. In my life I had and have seen many things. But that moment I think will stay with me for the rest of my life. It is in those moments each of us must fight ignorance and violence to make a better world with our voices and our actions. From one person to the next. In our families, in our neighborhoods and in our world. Silence damns us. |

oh ok, so you belive that everyone that flys a rebel flag is a racist. answer me this then, what about the black men that owned slaves? and im not just saying in america, go to africa, there is more slavery there then anywhere else in the world. you call yourself an activist? go do something about the injustice in africa, or china, but i guess no one should celebrate their history, but mourn something that had nothing to do with the present. slavery died in the late 1800's in america, but some people wont let it die. and anyone from the south is responsible for the sins of their forefathers, even if they didnt own slaves.
take account for your own actions, and remeber that nothing in the past will change what happened no matter how much you call someone out that might have respect for someone that might have tried to help someone in the past. you want to call me a racist? go ahead, what does your thinking matter to me? all your showing me is your complete and total lack of knowledge of american history and current events. |

yeah it happened, but is it our fault that it happened? i know no one in my family has ever owned slaves. but slavery still exists, and no one b1tching about that. just about something that happened well over a century ago.

personally, i cant stand elvis. but thats neither here nor there. im not saying forget anything, im saying learn from the past mistakes and do the best you can with what you have in front of you. you want change, do something about it. but dont tear someone down for something that they had nothing to do with. yes, some people use the rebel flag for a sign of hatred, but me personally, they make me sick. Jewish people are a hard and strong people, and are damn proud of what they have become. i respect the hell out of the jewish people. they fought for what they have and wont give it up for anything. why cant we follow that example and fight for what we belive to be right? it doesnt have to make everyone happy, just be just in what you are trying to accomplish and be the best you can be. remeber the past, but dont live in it.

i dont watch the news. i dont belive half of what i see and none of what i hear. so many twists of words. i prefer to read the local history of the places i visit and things that intrest me. i dont agree with anyone being forced to work for nothing or the thought that one man can own another. aint no one gonna own me, i am my own man. i make my judgement calls on what i see in real life not what is forced on me.

Such separatism!!! I agree with fran.....a flag is just a piece of material made by the people who live in said country/state. A united flag of Earth would be nice.......since WE ALL live in it!!! |

I feel for those who harbor so much anger and hatred over things that happened in the past. That continually affect their lives in such a negative manner. None of us can change the world or what happened or happens in it until we change ourselves first.
I was raised in Alabama. My dad was a farmer and I had to hoe cotton and pick it. Beside me were black people doing the same thing. At the end of the day, my dad paid those black people but he did not pay me. I can go back to 'bama now and see a cotton field and get all angry and p*ssed at all black people because they were paid and I wasn't. That's not my first thought. What I remember more, is that sometimes during the day, they would start singing. I never had heard Amazing Grace sung with so much feeling and such beautiful voices! Their singing was awesome! All I wanted to do was sing like they could. This whole thread makes me feel sad, not because of history but because of what individuals TODAY still perpetuate, whether it be true or not. Spewing hatred and anger everywhere will only dig the rut deeper! For the OP, I wish that she never had to see another symbol that would cause so much anger and pain but unless we all put blinders on, we will continually see and hear things that will remind of us of unpleasant past events that started with the beginning of time to all MANKIND. |

As for hate, since moving back to the south, I am shocking aware of places I am not welcome, still today in 2008. Oh no one says, "We don't serve your kind" or "Nigg88s enter in the back", no I see it in peoples eyes. It is their Hatred NOT MINE. Anger my friends can also be a motivating force. Maybe now one of you will question some of your friends or family about whether they know the effect the symbol has on others. But you probably won't, be to let's sleeping dogs lay. |
