Such separatism!!! I agree with fran.....a flag is just a piece of material made by the people who live in said country/state. A united flag of Earth would be nice.......since WE ALL live in it!!! Hug's Sweety |

You may all be right. It could be what it means to that person. Our own perception. But to those people who it has hurt (their ancestors were hurt) the flag still brings up bad feelings and to some who are still alive, bad memories. You can't change how those people think or feel, but you can do something to not keep that flag displayed. Who cares about history anyway (don't get me wrong I like history and know a great deal about it, I was an history major), we should focus on the now and the future. I don't know anything about my ancestory and where I come from, but I still know who I am. I am with u too Danny! Did you ever stop to think that the American flag is also a symbol of repression, rebellion, and hatred? It could be construed as offensive to someone of British heritage, or even Native American heritage. God knows, we did our best to wipe those particular cultures off the face off the earth. Should we get rid of it because somebody somewhere might be offended? Currently, I'm offended by it. I'm sure our Founding Fathers are rolling in the grave wondering about the mess we've made of what they've created. It's a piece of cloth, people ascribe meaning to it based on their own perceptions, backgrounds and personal experiences. But it really is meaningless. |

I should have read everyone else's posts about letting it die before I posted above.
Sorry all |

At least it's not racist to raise you're fist and declare black power, black pride and power to the people. Try being white and getting away with that.

I agree with that, I don't believe our founding fathers would appreciate what we've done with this country. I don't believe they would've approved of 90% of the ignorant laws we have in this country either. and to the guy about talking about black power and black pride: I don't know anyone who agrees or approves of it... even black people and that is mostly who I know... |

Yes, I would be the first to fly a peace, united human race flag, were one ever to exist.
What I am saying is why is it ok for jewish people to be offended by the use of the swastika and for everyone to get why the people who use it are racist? But oh no the confederate flag should be respected. |

If a person doesn't know by now that it is offensive it is because they don't care. Or are just so ignorant they were probably related to cave men first.

But oh no the confederate flag should be respected. It's all an assumption like the one regarding the American Flag, the Gay Pride Flag, the Confederate Flag. We assume therefore it must be All just material - it's how 'we individually' define then and place value on them that makes us stay stagnant and incapable of moving on and upward. jmo |

So i'm a racist because i have a rebel flag to honor my great great grandfather who died in battle during the civil war? Thats the biggest piece of crap i've heard for awhile.
You may be offended by a flag, but i'm offended by your statement. |

Dont misunderstand I live and am an active member of the real world. I worship no one, and certainly not a piece of fabric. |

Its not flying anywhere, its nailed to the wall above my grandfather's civil war diary. BTW nowhere in that diary does it mention slaves, or black people (that i'm aware of because he just named people he talked too, never mentioned color). He fought because he thought Lincoln was trying to take away state's rights. |
