I guess some people are capable of reading anything into anything. I had a guy tell me one time that he knew the U.S. was the "great beast" in the book of revalation because when the U.S. flag hangs on a pole there is blue at the top!!!! He took one little bit of info and ran with it. I guess all people with mustahes are murderers, after all, Hitler had one! not!!!!

Read the South Carolina Congressional Record of the debates about succession and you will see its all about economics, trade tariff and price fixing of cotton by the North. The North set a price for cotton that was not viable economically in the south and then, when the south threatened to trade their cotton to England, France, and Spain, the northern majority congress placed trade restrictions and tariffs to stop them.
Sorry this makes me want to puke. THEY WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE DAMN COTTON TO TRADE IF THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE FREE LABOR TO PICK IT. HOW CAN YOU SEPARATE THE TWO?

lETS SEE WHAT YOU WOULD READ INTO That Flag, if you had relatives pulled out of their beds in the middle of the night, strung up, castrated, gutted and burn to death while still alive?

Stop attacking people for not being biased and hating. You have the facts, the Civil War was not about slavery. The south genuinely believed they were fighting for state's rights.

You are merely breeding hate. Hate = ignorance

Ok, I give up, I hate stated several times that I do not hate the people that wave that flag, but rather I hate their ignorance and yours as well. I hate the fact that still today in 2008, people can't admit that the South was built on terror, blood and the practice of genocide. The the wealth of the South and their ability to even launch a war would not have been possible without slavery. Further more if you want to have your delusions about that way of life as morality sound then that is truly up to you. As for me I have my answer and it has not changed.

Didn't they want their state to have the right to have slaves? Aren't those the state's rights that they were talking about?

There is not a single person here who said that slavery was morally sound. And if you knew anything about the economics of the south, both then and now, you would know that slavery was not an economically sound foundation. The South was, and a great many parts still are, very rural and poverty stricken.

You say that we are breeding ignorance, when I say it's you just as much. I see your point, your perception of the flag is different than others, and that's cool. But in your own ignorance, blind rage and hatred, you refuse to believe that there could be other facets of the truth.

Slavery happened, it is a disgrace to our nation's history. However, it is over. Most people have learned the lesson and are doing what they can to move forward, instead of continually looking to the past.

If there are issues in your life that cause such pain and anger, they are YOUR issues to deal with and your responsibility. But to continually blame your anger on anyone who was not directly responsibile is unfair and unfounded.

Here we go again. You guys keep repeating the same points over and over again.

I say the one of the reasons the south is still so rural and has such poverty is because of it lost all it's wealth and it's free work force after the war. It's main industries were slave driven.

I am forcing no one here to adhere or believe what i am saying, it is there choice.

No one on here has given me any historical information about what else could have contributed to the South states being able to rally the resources to fight a war. I am sorry if my poor or middle class whites fought and lost their lives for an institution they had nothing to do with.

You don't have to tell me that others see that flag another way, I come face to face with it almost daily.

I think my point is, there's not a single issue in anything that is simply black and white, there are as many shades of gray as there are people in the world. If we as people can learn to see that, we'd move forward a whole lot faster and in a whole lot better shape than we are now.

Can we call a truce? flowerforyou

That is one of the rights, yes. As Suzin has mentioned earlier, their are many facets of the truth here. I believe probably about 5 to 10% of the confederate army believed in slavery. But why should those 5 to 10% determine how the symbol of their flag is supposed to be portrayed. The issues run much deeper.

Basically what i am refering to is that the North wanted One centralized government to dictate their lives. The original intention behind the United States, is that the states have the power to override any law the Federatl government wants to pass, but they agreed to agree. Their right to disagree with the Federal Government dissapeared after the civil war. In all honesty we would not have the corruption you see today if the power had not been consolidated. They were actually wise to be wary of one single centralized government. For corruption purposes, and the fact the citizens from Maine don't always know what's best for citizens of Florida. Get what i am saying?
