Does anybody else ever get burnt out from going to meetings? I mean... I know it's all about going to the right ones but have you ever just felt worse walking out than walking in?
I like the ones with muffins, but those are always the ones with one main speaker, then open floor. I prefer the regular open floor format. |

I do when I have to constantly chair them. Sometimes it can seem like a chore. I really don't like being a bleeding deacon or an elder statesman. I come for my own sobriety lest I forget that last drunk. A person who chairs a lot in our sister group is always quoting, "We are not a glum lot."

Hehe. Sounds fun.
I do dig the meetings. Any town you go to you'll find two things - bars and AA meetings. I prefer the latter (now). The ones around here start at 7 in the morning so I guess it's good to get myself out of bed and moving along. If only I liked coffee. |

The RU12 group used to be in a dry county. It is the back of a restaurant that serves alcohol now. The waitress that delivers our coffee is an Alanon. Her husband passed away so she doesn't sit in for the group. So she is carrying our coffee for the back then goes to the front to serve alcohol. Just before the meeting she closes the door between the bar and the meeting. I think she does it out of respect. We have some members who sell liquor but don't drink. In a place I used to live we had this sherriff who confiscated illegal alcohol and drugs for the Alcohol Beverage Commission then sold it right out of the sherriff office. One of the bootleggers he confiscated from thought the sherriff selling his illegal alcohol was illegal. The bootlegger is still serving time for shooting the sherriff.

So tempted to ask if he shot the deputy...
Dry counties. I don't think we have any in Michigan. The concept is still pretty strange to me. My favorite meetings are in basements or mental institutions. Seriously. They just tend to be more fun for me. I'm being completely serious. I find it strange how guys with a couple years of sobriety on me have to have me sign their sheets. Any way to help, though. I don't think I could work a job where I sold liquor and not drink. Props to those who can. |

Days of Wine and Roses is on...the scene where he speaks at the AA meeting is just like an old group I used to attend in Colo. speakers meeting at 10th and Garrison. I think the real name of the group was Lakewood Group.....everyone knew it as 10th and Garrison. Sometimes I really miss my old groups....Acceptance was another good group....attended there for over 20 yrs..........Arid Club...........
It's good to be sober................ |

I prefer discussion meetings to speaker meetings so I try to go somewhere ive never been, meet new people....you never know, you just may find some new friends too |

Just was browsing Mingle and came across this thread. I worked in a substance abuse clinic, well till the hospital deemed it neccessary to close the unit on April 30th. I want to say congratulations to each of you that made the life changing choice. ![]() We have something in common, MotherTucker. ![]() |

I have a question for Plastic Pancakes. Why do you have a pic of you drinking from a bottle of whiskey on your profile?

Had a great meeting at the Grapevine group. There were only five of us. One came in late from the treatment center. We were going over tradition 3. Great story about Ed. According to the reading Ed didn't believe in the God nonsense. Tradition 3 is, "The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking."

I'm not making it to Akron.
But I'll be spending the time rocking out my fourth step. My friend gave me templates because he said otherwise I wouldn't be done with Volume I of my screw-ups before my next birthday. I bet they have to make A LOT of coffee. |
