I'm almost 100% sure that was misinformation, they have to take all reports, but she was not the party in question - tried explaining to her that as it wasn't her vehicle, they wanted to speak to the owner. jmo

she said the friends called as well...and went down there. and depending who took the call...may not have been entered. down here...it's not the cops that handle 911 and do the first report. it's civilians

I read her complain was because cops hung up on her, yes friends called and they spoke w/cops.

Really civilians respond to 911 calls where you live?

My friends called them once before I got there to pick them up

was what she said

no civilians don't respond out to the calls. they take the 911 calls...make a report...and send it out to the cops to go out there

And here, the 911 operators are police.

They were rude and spoke to us as if it was our fault. It was a horrible experience. I was furious and still am.

Unfortunately a lot of police officers do seem to cop an attitude (no pun intended).

Like you say, they often treat victim like as if they are the criminals.

The other thing they do is never apologize when the append the wrong person! Twice I was arrested for crimes I had absolutely nothing to do with whatsoever. I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. In both cases the cops finally realized they had the wrong man, but instead of apologizing they acted like I was still the guilty party and I was lucky to be set free.

WTF???

Once they view you as a criminal I guess they can’t see past that initial impression. Hells bells, when they arrest the wrong person the least they can do is be apologetic about it after they discover THEIR mistake!

We certainly need police. But some of them could learn a little better manners when it comes to dealing with victims and wrongly accused people.

Wrong place wront time?

Shouldnt be in the wrong place as I see it

Apologetic for what? They dont know you, either way...You should feel lucky to be set free. If you were not in the wrong?...Take it and simply leave without expecting an apology....

oh my, so angry. Are you in law enforcement Jim?

I have every right to be angry

I recommend you go back and look at my post before you judge

I've been following this thread, your dad was injured badly in the line of duty. Being an officer was a risk your father undertook. I'm sorry, about what happened to your dad. This topic is about a young girl who went to a play with friends, 1 car broken into, the other stolen. When you are a victim of crime you mind is in overdrive. You may sound rude but you really want some answers. Customer Service, yes, protect and SERVE your community. I'm not a cop basher or bashing you. I thnk you might be getting worked up over nothing.

That night, me and my boyfriend when to go get them. The police were jerks to us. My friends called them once before I got there to pick them up and they said they had to go to the police station. Except how could they get there if their CAR was STOLEN?! And when I got there I called the police again. They got angry at me for calling for my friend and said that my friend was the one who was supposed to call and he HUNG UP ON ME! So my friend called a THIRD time. They finally listened, we filed a report and me and my boyfriend drove them to the station.

Yellowrose - I agree horrible circumstance but I see nothing wrong. People should be spoken to with respect, I agree but I am just sharing my opinion. They placed the complaint/report stolen vehicle, vehicle found and towed. If in fact they were waiting for the cops to escort them to station house (I find amusing) because they are after all not taxi services. I'm sure in smaller cities/towns they may but not in all.

Anyway, I just love to agree to disagree with you (remember April Fools joke) laugh

Not in the least

When you say "Serve" the community..That means protection. Not being a Taxi, or being a friendly polite person on the phone. This isnt Macy's your calling.

Yes, it was a risk my Father took in his line of work. But when people disrespect that you can be rest assured I will let you know.....

Thanks for showing no respect to that...None of you have a clue until it could be a part of your life...Trust that

When someone wants to Hate all Cops over a stolen car incident?

Get over it..

i agree but didn't see where they expected a taxi service. here the cops would have come to the scene. but the problem was she didn't think they noted it was stolen too...since it was stolen...regardless if found....it needs to be in the report. not only for the insurance but to look for the thieves as well

You may be surprised what I know about police officers.

I know many police officers personally and firefighters too. I know what they have done illegally/immorally and what they have done good too.

I went to a funeral last month for a police officer friend of mine. He died while fixing his roof. He fell off the roof. He was on the SWAT team.

I had to explain to my child this year why their police officer Cross Country coach (parent and my friend) had a bandage on his chin because his chin had been shot off in the line of duty.

I have to agree... its kinda stupid to hate all cops, even all cops in one area over a car issue. some times theres more important things that they have to do..

although i love my cops, they give me and my best friend a ride home when we were walking the 8 miles from another friend's house, in a reallly bad part of town...he said they wanted to see the youth safe...I  cops..they do more for us then we ever could know

agreed - well all I hope is for the owner of the car (or whomever lost personal items) reported them with the appropriate parties (ie, bank/credit card company)

while it's more scary for me to lose my personal identification, b/cert; social, they are replaceable. I would also report to major credit bureaus - prevention to identity theft.

That's an interesting point. There is a time-lapse in there. During the intervening time between it was reported stolen and when they arrived at the station, someone from the station could easily have called the place it was towed from and found out they had it towed.

Yes, being a police officer is not an easy job, and it’s certainly a dangerous one. But that’s no reason to cop a hard-nosed attitude toward the public in general. On the contrary, when that kind of emotion become entangled with the job it’s time to retire and do something else with you life.

You just can’t hold the innocent public responsible for the actions of criminals. That’s only going to cause more people to become angry with authority figures. Generic anger doesn’t do anyone any good in the end.

it wasn't towed from where the owner parked it. it was stolen, abandoned and towed. regardless if found or not...the theft needs to be in the report
