Like with everything in life some people complain just because they dont get things their way.
Rarely do we hear people giving thanks to those in authority. jmo

When my car was stolen, the report was taken over the phone. I was also told on the phone that they found my car and it was being towed to the city car junk yard. It had been torched. Everything was taken care of on the phone. My friend had his car broken into after a Cav's game and we had to go down to the station.... Sounds like different places have different rules. I know when my vehicle was stolen I had to schlep my way down to the station to file the report. I liked using the phone better than I would have liked to have to schlep my way.  I think the phone might be faster. I was able to call at a late hour and get the information on the sheets faster. And hello? I didn't have a car. |

salemite...i agree...i think each dept might handle things different. here (where i live) if everyone came into the station to sign a form for everything...they wouldn't be able to fit everyone. down in my town...911 is used for all calls....not just emergencies That's how I filed the report - thru 911. That is the only way for my city too. |

That is the only way for my city too. people would call me in the records dept and i'd have to direct them to call 911. that way a report could be generated and assigned to a cop to come out (in order of importance) or a detective. even for loud music by the neighbors....call 911. |

Rarely do we hear people giving thanks to those in authority. Someone said in this thread that cops don't get paid enough. I would tend to agree. Personally, I think professional get paid way too much. Cops, teachers and emergency service workers should get paid like athletes and athletes should get paid like cops. |

where I live...ALL calls have to be responded to. no matter how long the person has to wait...the police report to everything

They were rude and spoke to us as if it was our fault. It was a horrible experience. I was furious and still am. Unfortunately a lot of police officers do seem to cop an attitude (no pun intended). Like you say, they often treat victim like as if they are the criminals. The other thing they do is never apologize when the append the wrong person! Twice I was arrested for crimes I had absolutely nothing to do with whatsoever. I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. In both cases the cops finally realized they had the wrong man, but instead of apologizing they acted like I was still the guilty party and I was lucky to be set free. WTF??? Once they view you as a criminal I guess they can’t see past that initial impression. Hells bells, when they arrest the wrong person the least they can do is be apologetic about it after they discover THEIR mistake! We certainly need police. But some of them could learn a little better manners when it comes to dealing with victims and wrongly accused people. |

guess it really depends on where you live, because where I live 911 is only for emergencies - all other calls requiring assistance (that are non-emergencies) have a local number to call.

Same way here, our population is to large to take a report over the phone. I got to say, if anybodies car was stolen, wouldn't you call at the site it was stolen from. I do beleive they have to come out for that one (grand theft auto) thats jail time. It appears that the op friends car was taking by joy riders and left to be towed. Anyway its still a crime to steal and if they would have been present during the theft they may have been shot by the purps. so, thank god, they are safe. Yes, she's young but she still has the same rights as anybody to fair treatment. She is the victim or her friend is. |

They do investigate all calls - true. |

They do investigate all calls - true. here you just call 911 and they direct it. but i think the problem was they wouldn't do the report about it being stolen |
