speaking of motivators:
my neighbor just bought a schwinn trike, with a large basket between the rear wheels.
the thought is, with stores being between a couple blocks and a couple miles away.
his wife could use it to do some of the house hold shopping, and he can do some of his smaller honey do errands with it. instead of jumping in the car.
saving some money on gas, and also working off the "table muscle" his wife has been nagging him about.

I guess the costs of living and fuel increases, could have some positive effects for some.

I always get the groceries in by cycling. The supermarket is 450 meters from my house. I'm not going to start the car for that, would ruin the engine and battery real fast!
I've had to walk a few times during winter, with my bike, when the roads were slippery because of snow, hihi. STill taking my bike with me as then I don't have to carry heavy stuff and some parts of road could still be cycled.
Not a tricycle though. We are a cycling nation, so a normal bicycle. Bag goes on the rear luggage carrier :)
On the rare occasion I take the car because I for instance need a helluva lot of heavy stuff I drive a number of kms first to heat up the engine and get the oil going through it. But I prefer not to do that at all.

So if it inspired you... go for it! Breathe in fresh air and get the lungs going, hihi.

I learnt to cycle when about 3 yrs old. I mastered it quite fast but I had one problem: for some reason I couldn't break. No idea why, but I just couldn't. So I had to ram the kiddie bike into a barn or some other structure to stop, hahahaha.

back in my 20's I road bike 14 miles everyday to and from work. I was clocked by an officer doing 30 in a 25 LOL, he actually gave me a ticket for unsafe passing. this was back when I worked at a nursery (tree farm) and everything I needed for work was supplied. I had a custom built mountain bike, and it was geared like a sprinter for speed. it had an egg shaped front crank to provide maximum leverage on the down stroke.
I also had a front and back bag rack made for it that locked the bags in place. to guard against their theft.. I rode it for over 8 years. but I was replaced by someone younger at a lower wage. so I went into landscaping, and needed a truck. so I sold the bike to help pay for it.

And to boot the N95 marks given out to Congress ( while we all wear the cheap useless blue ones) were swamped " made in China" and the first deliveries of the test kits are starting to be delivered. People are pissed that the kits are stamped " made in China"

just another betcha dint know..
most of those early N 95 masks out of china, that were tested. failed US standards of construction and protection that give them the N or KN 95 particulate rating.

Hi fellow patriots,
I'm sure many of you are frustrated with what is going on in the world right now. Have you had enough of the current issues in our xountry? I am starting to see that there is hope coming probably sooner than you think It is important to have faith that it will get better soon. Based on the world, faith and where you stand politically are important within for a relationship to be "on the same page" Any Republicans who support Trump who are Christian, reach out to me and let's talk. Cindy

I have always been a Trump supporter and if he runs again in the primary election I will support him again. But regardless of who republicans choose to run against the democrat. He will have a blueprint on what works and doesn’t work for a great economy thanks to the Trump presidency. So I’m not worried about if it’s Trump , Pompaio or DeSantis . I’m fairly positive the democrats have little chance to win in 2024.
I think Jr would also be a good choice.. the DON is getting up there. and he's a high stress target. so grooming JR to run and teaching him what he learned while in the big chair( as with his business empire). may be the better move.

Omnicron blew right thru the population of the U.S. shots didn't stop it, masks didn't stop it..closures. distancing.. booster. nope. didn't even slow it down
nothing stopped it... it only slowed when it was running out of people to infect.
This virus is out of the bag and is not going away. It will continue to morph to stay ahead of the vaccines. The next one could be very deadly and unstoppable
This is the " new world" ...better get used to it .

so did delta.. al the vax did was lessen the severity for some. it did not do anything to prevent or slow it spread.
the CDC admitted that they knew that the masks 99% of people were wearing was going to do nothing to prevent the spread of the virus as well, but they wanted to prevent panic buying of the N and KN 95 + masks and respirator's so that more would be available to first responders and medical staff. so they supported what faucci was saying about shields and face coverings.
bieden is still lying, telling everyone that the vaccine prevents the spread if the virus. and booster are the only defense against it.( people are all ready getting their second booster. and still catching delta.
what is not being reported on is, Omi is actually helping stem delta tide. as it is becoming the dominant strain. delta cases are dropping off.

I mentioned a few times that the red cross was trying to get more people in to give blood, .. now in the US they are at a point where they are rationing it, and hospatals are being forced to put surgeries on hold. because supplies are at a 10 year low.
since covid started, blood donations have been dropping off. so, if you are able, please donate.TAZ

crystal,
hope you dont mind my saying,
by your pic, you all pretty look pretty lean..
too many women stress to the point they end up looking like a skin draped skeleton.
with not even a muscle structure to prove other wise.
but, that is just my opinion.
it's OK if you tell me to go soak my head in vinegar if you want.
but I mentioned before, it is better to be fit, than to be at some idea of an ideal weight.

Thank you, Richard!
I'm not that much overweight so you got that right :) But I did put on just a bit too much and I'm not happy with it. It means I can not wear the clothes I love to wear, and that make me feel 'me'.
And no way am I aiming for the weight I had when for instance 36 yrs old! That'd be way too much and indeed would cause me to look anorexic. It'd go hand in hand with sagged everything everywhere. It shows in your face too when losing too much. So nope, not doing that! The weight I'm after allows me to be healthy, feel good, look good, and able to wear whatever I like and look and feel good in it :)

thats great news crystal.. (not the physical therapy. but finding inspiration from it)
just remember not to be too critical. having a dietitian will be a big help in helping you keep your diet ballenced.
I could say,
I wish I could go back to smack my 20 ish year old self upside the head for some of the stupid stuff I did.. but the lessons of those stupid things helped me to get where I am now. so I guess I might also thank my younger self by giving him some future advice. besides ... he could kick my but side ways and leave me bleeding, in a broken pile. (I was 180 LBS. and solid muscle back then. ;-) LOL )
it's a lot of work, but the feeling of feeling lighter with more energy (even if the scales dont show it. or dont show it as much as we might like).
because your muscles are being rebuilt. is a great motivator.
keep up the good work.

we men suffer a similar condition, called low T.
we start loosing muscle mass, balding, weight gain and even mood swings.
we start loosing testosterone in our 40's, and it also has a wide range of side effects that will effect each man differently. and to different extents..

it aint anything us guys like to talk about. but it happens to all of us. just like you lady's and menopause.
most of us guy's will even experience prostate issues because of it.
thats why you see adds for the lil blue pill, T-boosters and hair treatments all the time.

it is just what we as humans have to deal with as we get older.
lucky for you lady's out their you feel more comfortable talking with each other and comparing notes, then most guy's will ever be , even with their doctors.
so you actually have that advantage over US guy's.

(hey I might never have been married, but I got older 6 sisters LOL ;-) )

not much of a "pet person" my self.
I've had several cats over the years, as mousers. and a few dogs as well. mostly mid sized to make noise if strangers are about.
in high school, I had a hybrid coyote/ sheperd mix
she was a great dog but the sheriff noticed her running with me, and asked for my permit to own her.(I dint know it was illegal. and he took her away when I told him I did not have one. for all I know. he put her down.

I dont know ... maybe it is because I grew up on a farm, and eat meat, but animals well taken care of in captivity, I view the same as people that own cats , dogs, or birds for their personal entertainment and comfort.
and if not for these aquariums, and zoo's many people would not have the awareness to how endangered some of those animals are. also with out their breading programs, some of those animals may no longer exist.
it is all in the context of how you view the situation.
they thought freeing willie (the orca) would be a good thing. but once released back into the wild. he died shortly after his release.
so what was more barbaric. keeping him where he was taken care of, and he, by all appearances was happy.
or releasing him?

as the article mentioned, in protected waters, sharks biggest threat is other larger sharks,. but out side protected waters it is other nations that dont abide by international laws that are there for their protection.. the 2 largest predatory sharks are the great white and the bull shark. but reef and tiger sharks also hunt them. (sharks are also cannibals, they eat their weaker brothers and sisters while in gestation.)

More lies and non-sence coming from our “ commander and chief “. He told everyone on Tuesday that we should give up our right of freedom to choose , and be a patriot by getting a vaccine so we won’t transmit covid to others. If this guy had a functioning brain he would know that vaccines don’t stop the transmission of covid, as stated by his own cdc officials. This guy is either lying or just to senile to understand. Either way it’s very advantageous for the republicans in 2022. Joe and the rest of his corrupted cronies keep digging that hole deeper and deeper.

Now the corrupter and chief has a new scare tactic. Non vaxxers will end up gravely ill this winter.
Oh. Thank you Dr biden for your medical opinion. Since I didn't ask for one, can I just assume this is just more hollow talk from someone I have no respect for? FJB

the mid terms are coming.. if all goes well, his guardians wont be there to hide the truth for him after that.
and he knows it, thats why he is trying so hard to get voting laws under the control of the federal government, and out of the control of the states.

my personal opinion, the sharks are just doing what sharks do.
.

we know they are there, and we enter into their environment any way.
if we get attacked, then it is our fault. there are some things we as humans can do to minimize our risks (as with all things that involve known dangers).
but in the end it is our choice to enter their environment, so we are ultimately responsible for what does or does not happen to us while in their waters.
we can just as easily get dragged out to sea by an under tow, or rip tide and drown (which happens even more often). but thats not the oceans fault.
that said.. sharks like the bull, that also hunt fresh water, are changing the game. and raising our learning curve. by showing up more frequently were most people dont expect a shark to be (fresh water).

Tampa Bay, (near where I live)
is both, a feeding area, and birthing
area, for at least a dozen species of
sharks.

http://baysoundings.com/legacy-archives/fall04/predators.html

it is also lucky for them, that it is also a oceanic preservatory. where most of them are tagged, tracked and studied from birth.

Shark attacks are at a record high, even
here in Florida.

Typical... maybe for the same reason? Too many boats on the water and food being thrown in etc?

I know I'd stick to a swimming pool, hihi.
The thought alone of a shark biting off my leg... I think not even 20 yrs of therapy could help me get over that.

the main shark in florida is the bull shark, they are naturally aggressive shallow water hunters. they are also not restricted to salt water, and have been found several hundred miles inland in fresh water.
this is also where humans like to play. so they naturally run across each other a lot more often.

sharks are now a protected species of sea life,. and as such their populations have boomed over the last 20 years.
add human activities, with wild animal instincts. and like you said crystal, they are not stupid. they are going to go after the easy meal. if people are out splashing around in the water, like an injured fish, and theres also blood in the water from bait ( or other reasons). it is going to attract them like ringing a dinner bell.
to be honest. I'm surprised it is happening as rarely as it still is. but it still is increasing all around the world. and it is actually a tourist attraction to dive with them.
people pay to go out and hang out in shark cages, while guides pour chumb in the water to draw in the sharks. so they can see them up close.
just for the thrill of petting a great white as it rubs against the cage (as an example).

Numbers of sharks are NOT increasing, we are getting less and less. There's only 10% left of the number of sharks we used to have and should have to keep the oceans healthy.

"Shark populations around the world are in rapid decline. Sharks grow relatively slowly, take many years to mature and produce relatively few young."

From the WWF site:
The growing trade in shark fins –often used to make an expensive Asian soup—has become a serious threat to many shark species. The latest research suggests that around 100 million sharks may be killed annually, often targeted for their fins. This practice affects many different shark species, including whale sharks.

As for attacks... apparently Florida has the highest unprovoked attack number in the US.
That's kind of peculiar, on the other hand side... are their more people in water there?

In any case... it's not going well with the number of sharks.

internationally sharks in general, may be decreasing. but not in waters where they are under protection.
at any rate, here in the US, the bull shark population has been on a steady increase (the shark I was speaking about). and bull shark attacks are not just increasing off the coast of florida, it is all up and down the eastern coast, and in fresh water. like the northern great lakes. and mississippi river.

for example the great white has made a come back in australia, south africa and the western US coastal waters as well.
however, it dont stop other nations from killing them whole sale to off set those recoveries.

On the contrary here in South Africa. Cape Point where the Atlantic meets the Indian Ocean always had a vibrant shark community, specifically the Great White. Over the last two years shark spotters recorded that zero sharks have been spotted in comparison to the 250 yearly in the Cape Peninsula for the past 30 years. Shark attacks were always a thing, my tropical home town has shark nets, but Cape Town has none. But, they have disappeared. Speculations presume the fishing industry is to blame in Cape Town.

Interestingly, over the lockdown period in 2020, shark spotters reported that with the beaches closed, the marine life grew to be far more vibrant. I love the ocean and I believe we are responsible for the disruption of the ecosystem.

Yes, 90% of all sharks have disappeared :( Really sad, and bad as they too are part of an ecosystem.
I learnt tonight from another docu that reef sharks are vital to keeping coral reefs healthy. With so few left many reefs have died. Reefs dying is still going on, also due to rising seawater temps and seawater being more acid nowadays because of what we do.

Sharks being hunted for their dorsal fins is also still a very booming business. They catch them, hoist them aboard, cut off the fin, throw the shark back after which it will die. It's a sick business! I will never ever eat shark fin soup in my life!!

And yes, nature can recover itself, provided we PO. It doesn't even take all that long, all that's needed is us staying the heck out of it.
Apparently if 1/3rd of all coastal seas in the world would be protected from people & commercial fishing ALL oceans and seas and life in it will restore to what it once was and is supposed to be!!
There are a few areas where this was done and in a short time everything went back to normal, from plants, fish, fish eaters, birds, and so on. The whole lot!
Unfortunately these are just a few places and not nearly enough.
And think of it, what would 1/3 of all coastal sea waters be? We still got 2/3 of the rest for tourism and commercial fishing. They seriously overfish(ed) herring and anchovies to name 2. This has had a detrimental impact on the entire food chain. And people often forget it then also has an impact on landscape which for big part is formed and maintained by animal life.

It's not too late, not yet. Not if we seriously do something about it now.
Glad to hear that sharks have been spotted more!
Lots had begun to recover during severe lockdowns and restricted travel & shipment. It is still possible... as long as we PO from enough areas to leave nature intact.

all it takes is for countries to fallow international laws.
but, those laws can only be enforced by other countries with in their own waters. and international waters. that is why (for example) whaling fleets still exist. because international law can not be enforced in national waters.
how long would there be a market for shark fins, if it was illegal to serve shark fin soup and any one caught serving/buying it was punished for doing so
in countries where it is a popular dish to serve??
