I deleted it already in the Recycle Bin. There must be some way.

http://www.officerecovery.com/freeundelete/

System restore will not restore deleted files.

When you delete a file, the file is not removed from the disk, the file system puts a flag at the beginning of the file (assuming it is contagious, and you file system isn't a journalling filesystem) that lets the system know that the space is available.

It is important to use a computer as little as possible once you have deleted the file, to reduce the chance of the space used by the file being deleted.

Ahhhh, I administer my *nix boxes with my Mac, I use iTerm and have lovely tabbed terminals (although I believe Leopards term has this too).

For development I use my Mac, with Mamp Pro (lovely piece of software). I can't image developing on a Windows Box, that would really really suck!

I would like to move my Mac to Ubuntu, but can't find the time, or deal with the hassle. As much as I hate closed systems (Apple providing one of the most closed systems around) it does 'just work (tm)'.

I don't like wasting precious cycles with a GUI when I don't have too. We try to keep most machine at 65% capacity, and would probably have had to add at least another one by now if we were.

I use a mixture of Debian and OpenBSD for my servers, Ubuntu is a Debian based distro, so don't worry, I'm well aware of the 'magic' of Apt, the well orginised file structure and brilliant file structure.

I haven't tried Ubuntu server yet, but fully intend too, I fail to see how much different from Debian is can be though.

When I do, I'll start a thread so you can read about my progress.

No choice in the UK... mad

Apparently UK people don't run Linux, infact the BBC thought that was the case (http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/linuxbbc/).

I wouldn't surprise me if per-capita the UK has more Linux users than the states.

Beryl is lovely, but my Linux boxes are all servers and have no GUI. I use OSX for GUI based stuff, its pretty, quick, reliable and has Unix under pinnings... That and I am in love with my text editor (Textmate from Macromates - have a look!).

Have you tried Kiba Dock you netuserlia?

Isn't the max file size for Fat32 4GB minus 1byte? Why would anyone do that to themselves?!?

Don't have a spare Linux box? Use this: http://ubuntu-rescue-remix.org/

Use DD to create an image of the drive FIRST before you start messing with it!!! You will need another drive with enough capacity to hold all the data on your fsked up drive.

Plug the drive into a Linux box and run Testdisk from here:
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

Blurb from the site...

TestDisk can

* Fix partition table, recover deleted partition
* Recover FAT32 boot sector from its backup
* Rebuild FAT12/FAT16/FAT32 boot sector
* Fix FAT tables
* Rebuild NTFS boot sector
* Recover NTFS boot sector from its backup
* Fix MFT using MFT mirror
* Locate ext2/ext3 Backup SuperBlock

If Testdisk doesn't work use Photorec (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec) to get any important files out of the image.

Have fun!

Here is a place for ex-pats to say hello, and where they were from...

(Sorry all the ex-pats in the 'where you from' threads was hurting my tiny brain - no offence. Helps keep thing relevant :wink:.)

Excellent post, thank you!

Unfortunately, I don't have time to respond in detail at the moment (I'm in work), but I promise I will later.

Macs are actually cheaper than PCs with a similar spec. The software kicks the ass of any windows software...

Find me a windows program you can't get and equivalent for Mac! Chances are the Mac equivalent is superior.

Failing that, you can install Fink and run most any Linux software too, or Parallels and run any Windows software.

As for the repair side of things, surely the repairs should be done by authorized apple shops?

Several of my clients are Apple distributors and also handle repairs and warranty claims, and I can tell you on average, a PC would need to be 'seen to' every six months. A Mac would need to be 'seen to' every three years!

This was taken from 250 PCs, and 250 Macs, and quite a few of both were installed in schools...

So... ner ner :tongue: :wink:

Oh and the new Macbooks were silently rolled out today:
http://www.macrumors.com/2007/11/01/apple-updates-macbooks-to-santa-rosa-gma-x3100/

Be careful, rather annoyingly Leopard is currently shipping with its firewall disabled?!?! Not a wise move from Apple... At least when you enable it, it works, unlike the Windows one.

Beware the Fnords!

--- Do not take offence at the below! ---

Really, what's weirder:

Believing in and worshipping nature, the sun, the air, the tree what you can see and touch, and how it affects you in ways you can't describe.

Or:

Believing in and worshipping the son of a carpenter who 2000 years ago, may have walked on water, turned water into wine, fed 5000 people with a fish etc etc?

--- Do not take offence at the above! ---

For the record: I don't believe either, but I'm up for a debate!

Would you want someone that was prejudiced against anyone?

Man, prejudiced is butt ugly!

...but...

You say you like beautiful girls, surely you must have another metric by which to judge women...

Anyone who goes only for beautiful girls is gonna get burnt, wheelchair or not!
