      What is that about ?

Eyes and smiles are common attractants and many women will have that as a preference . .. not sure if men place as much visual importance on smiles ??? Curious why many profile photos .... use a closed lip smile or no smile at all ??? |

The Mona Lisa comes to mind. Some seem to find her coy closed-lip smile alluring.

Personally I'm self-conscious about my smile because I have a broken front tooth. Closed-lip or toothy, I appreciate smiles that exude warmth and joy. |

Could be they do not like their teeth? I recently had a blind date and his teeth were not attractive. I could not imagine kissing him ever.

Then there are filters. Why use them? I guess it is about what people are comfortable with.

      Hi Blondey!

I agree with you--a smile is a big deal to me. If someone does not have a smiling picture in their profile I do wonder if they are self-conscious about their teeth. |

Closed-lip or toothy, I appreciate smiles that exude warmth and joy. My last husband had a chipped tooth and was embarresed about it. All his pics were closed lipped smiles. I still fell in love with his personality and his 'Di Vinci' smile. Genuine people dont sweat the small stuff. |

      Smiles are important! Real smiles.

If it's about teeth why not go to the dentist and have them cleaned and/or fixed? Costs a bit, I know. But I'm on the lowest income and even I go to the dentist. In any case, I skip men that don't look happy in their photo(s). And smiling is a big part of that! A genuine happy smile that lights up the eyes. |

As a pro photographer I'll let you know that as we do a toothy smile the facial muscles move upwards tending to close our eyes a bit,so it's a trade off. Some people show lots of upper gum when they do a toothy smile and that looks awful.

Looking at a camera is not the same as smiling at someone you like . We lose some of the sensory cues .
