The nurse that I usually clash with impressed me last night. First thing I saw was the scour on her face. Right away I knew something was up. It couldn't be me but something was bothering her. In writing they call it foreshadowing the feeling I got later. Again as I was trying my best to do my job she told me she could just kick my ass. Okay, I know something is definately up and she has something on her mind. I am thinking wtf did I do wrong. ??? Then she says that I didn't fix the problem that she would and it could go to her *****ing at me like it used to be. I am thinking okay I will bite.laugh She says the new aide needs to speed up and others are telling her the same thing as she is seeing. Evidently while I was gone the new aide did not do well on her own. Then it dawned on me that the problem she wanted fixed was the new aide and I should tell the new aide to speed up because it just comes out as *****ing when she talks to her. Since I had orientated the new aide she wanted me to continue the orientation process so that the new aide can carry her weight on the nights that I was there to carry her load and mine as well. It was cool the nurse treated me as an equal because of the longevity of our time in working together. I told the new aide that she needed to speed up and complaints were against her for being slow. Like she me got defensive. Hmmm. Fascinating. I relayed the information back to the nurse and she asked me how the new aide reacted and I said defensive. She said good and smile. I said I thought you were upset with me and she said no she was upset with the new aide. All the vent sessions with the nurse were not in vain.

No Rainbow, I am not following you as it appears I may. You just have the most interesting posts, stuff of substance, for God sakes!

It does sound like your nursing supervisor has communication issues. I can see the way she felt the aide out, but her initial contact with you was uncalled for.

I had a supervisor that was similar, pretty book smart, but not
a lick of common sense.

Other nurses and aides would concur with you. She is in my opinion more geared to a hospital type setting. Other lpns made their way up through the ranks of aide to lpn but like you say she was straight out of nursing school. I think she will eventually leave the nursing home for the hospital. The nursing home in my opinion is less techinical and more commonsense orientated. She has had a hard time of fitting in but when we got shorthanded and she had to work as an aide she got some more of what I would call OJT in the nursing home. What looks good on paper sometimes doesn't always work in the real world. Sometimes the confines of just the nurse's station can take one away from what the aide actually experiences while working. Sometimes it might be just be the Missourian in me but I will just say to her, "Show me".

Good morning, all. I hope everyone has a lovely day. Could hear spring birds even though there is still snow on the ground. I think winter is just about gone. Had a good night. Got lots of comments about my burr haircut. I still think I look like a cue ball but it was getting to me with the hair in my eyes and since my hair is fine it just doesn't lay right. It really feels good not to feel lousy.laugh

Another thing that has alerted me to Spring is my well pump. I was tapping the waterline with a stick and it sounded hollow which led me to believe the line wasn't frozen inside. Another thing I noticed was the air pressure guage was stuck at 90 psi even when I tapped on the contacts which sparked but didn't change the pressure. The double set of contacts didn't open on one side and close on the other side which meant the pump wasn't operating. I turned off electric to pump at the main and there wasn't any change in psi on the air guage which led me to believe that the air guage was pegged. Sure enough when I disconnected the pressure contacts electrically and physically I could hear the back pressure of running water in the lines and when I took off the air guage water drained out clear. But of course I started too late on the venture and the hardware store was closed but tomorrow I know I will need to get a new set of double contacts, plumber's tape and a new air guage because it was still pegged with no pressure applied. But tomorrow when I get off work I will head to the hardware store for parts and install. It is a problem that I have tackled before with good results. What is another day without water when I have been there for a while? I am in a state of high hopes and good disposition.

What to do what to do... just as I suspected I didn't think the psyciatrist could help me ether. Heard a nasty rumor today that really tore me up and I did a stupid thing, I heard that my ex that I like so much has had sex with her new boyfriend and it hurt me alot and I started crying and didn't get to hear the other rumors that was being said cause they stopped telling me after that. Also went on a date when I was up there with a girl from here, it was nice for a change and I had alot of fun but I keep dropping back down into the same hole I crawled out from. I blame me for everything that happened and for her leaving me, I wish she would come back or at least say hi to me but I don't see it happening.

Hey, that was cool that you had a good experience with another woman. You are to be commmended. Way to get back in the saddle. When that bronco bucks you off you got to get back in the saddle.

Roy - good job handling that nurse that gives you a hard time. You have a lot of insight into people, that is what makes you so good at your job, and you care about people. A real plus.

Amber - you get well girl, if it starts to move into your lungs, go to the doctor, don't let it turn into pneumonia, okay??

Cleo - glad to see you in the thread, you are a real positive influence here.

Karen - hope you are doing well, hope school is going well.

Jax - hope things are going well for you and your son is doing okay.

Lance - you need to move forward, like Roy said, it is good that you went out with the other woman and had a positive experience. That is what you need to do, have more positive experiences like that. Keep moving forward, don't keep falling backwards. Whatever happens with your ex will happen, you need to take care of you. Don't give up on the psychiatrist, it takes time to work out your issues, nothing is quick and easy in counseling but keep moving forward.

I hope everyone has a great day and good week. I am fighting either my sinuses or a raging allergy attack myself. I wrote a long note last night and hit post but the lousy computer ate it and then I was too tired to retype it, so let's see if it posts it tonight or decides it is hungry again. Take care everyone. flowerforyou

Marie, I didn't know that computers got hungry............lol, I understand what you mean.....a lot of my first posts were "eaten" because of the computer I was using at the time.....A seven year dinosaur with Windows ME

Roy, i have a question that i need your opinion on.....talked to my mom last night and she told about how she was bitten NINE times by a brown recluse spider (i should mention that's she's in an assisted living facility), she's already gotten two sores eating away from it, and when i asked her what the administrator said when she told them they needed to spray, he said they would have if they had the stuff to do it (in other words, they are too cheap to do it).....i'm already going to call the health department AND social services (they have been under investigation by social services for at least a year), is there anything else i can do?

Talk to the Omsbudsman. The Nursing Home Ombudsman Program advocates for quality care and quality of life in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Ombudsmen identify, investigate and resolve complaints by or on behalf of facility residents. Volunteer and staff ombudsmen serve as independent, unbiased advocates for residents and work with all persons involved to reach acceptable solutions to problems. Ombudsmen address quality of care and quality of life concerns that may include unanswered call buttons, roommate problems, staffing, food and unsanitary conditions. Ombudsmen visit homes to reach out to residents and families as well as receive complaints by telephone, mail and email. A staff or volunteer Ombudsman will discuss the problem with you, investigate and observe, then make recommendations about possible solutions. After you have first attempted to resolve a problem with facility staff, working with an Ombudsman is typically the fastest and most effective means to problem solving. Information on the Ombudsman should be posted on the wall by the nursing station.

Amber, where we work we saw some spiders which was a while back. The aforementioned nurse took one of the spiders and clear-taped it to a maintenance request sheet. It sure got the maintenance department attention. I thought it was very creative of her.
