They would have to offer too many "electives" because there are too many religions. There just are not that many teachers.

Plus to be fair all students must get the same teachings so all students have to have all religions classes.

All I can say about your reasoning, if you got this from someone else, then you or they must think we are really stupid. If you actually believe that "innocent' approach will work.. then I hate to disappointed you.....

You can't claim that the Bible is an educational book, fit for public schools, then on the other hand, go the church and claim it to be the word of God and the absolute truth.

God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, faith, and a sound mind.

If thats the view you are taking, then I'm so glad that religion is kept out of our schools. This is why there is so much objection to 'teaching the Bible' in schools Christians can't seem to get away from the idea that their book is 'truth', and that its okay to 'teach' their book as 'truth' to children.

As a work of literature, or even as part of a history class, the bible is relevant and it is used, at least in colleges.

the bible doesnt fall under seperation of church and state either, obviously, different sects have different interpretations

seperation of church and state only requires there is no PREFERENCE shown to one religion over another, it has nothing to do with teaching a book

really? thanks for informing me of of what I think?

its enlightening

I can indeed claim the bible is educational AND the word of God,, why can it not be both

History is HIS STORY, it is educational AND the word of Men and outside of history class I am able to teach my children that that is ALL it is ,, HIS STORY, even though others believe it to be absolute factual accounts of 'great' men and women

why arent non believers able to do the same when it comes to the BIBLE

Ms. Harmony,

You've said several times that the bible is banned. You were not always clear about 'in what capacity' the bible is banned. I'm unaware of any outright ban on the use of the bible, as a work of literature, in an elective course - anywhere. I'm not saying that it hasn't been, but I would like to work with facts. Has it been? Where?

Or were you just speaking of the fact that public schools prevented from teaching the bible as truth? If so, I think it would be misleading to say 'the bible is banned'.

OK, switching topics...

Why do you think God does bad things to good people?

[I know the answer to this one, but wanted your viewpoints.]

You can claim it, but it will derail any effort on your part to get it taught in Public school. That is all I am saying.

Also I am curious to know what you mean by the Bible being banned too.

Me neither. I don't want to give it away, but many times, I hear, "If God exists, then why do bad things happen to good people?"

So, I wanted to throw this question out there.

my mistake, I am asking this rhetorically from observing some of the feelings discussed in this thread regarding religion, the bible, and school

you are correct, as president clinton stated

'As our courts have reaffirmed ... nothing in the First Amendment converts our public schools into religion-free zones, or requires all religious expression to be left behind at the schoolhouse door. While the government may not use schools to coerce the conscience of our students or to convey official endorsement of religion, the government's schools also may not discriminate against private religious expression during the school day.'

I dont think enough people know that because the sentiment comes across that the BIBLE is the enemy that should be withheld by all means in any public place but a church
