I don't think the pledge should be mandatory. it should be a choice. I don't think anyone that doesn't want to say it is bad. it's their choice to decide as it is my choice to decide.

as far as religion in schools....sometimes "separation of church and state" contradicts the 1st amendment

example: a boy prays silently before eating his lunch. not bothering anyone and not saying anything. someone that doesn't like religion is bothered by this. should they tell the boy he can't pray quietly before lunch if that is part of his religious beliefs just because someone sees him bowing his head and closing his eyes and not saying a word and doesn't like it?

this actually happened at my son's school. not sure what ended up happening.

This is the kind of thing that makes me shake my head. Any reasonable person wouldn't have a problem with anyone saying a silent prayer.

But, as is usual, extremists make everyone else miserable.

there was also a group of christian students that asked to have a group after school in one of the class rooms. there was a teacher there (that was atheist....Mr Cure was there since I was a student lol) that supervised them to make sure they didn't do anything they shouldn't. some people complained about that. the school had told the complainers that if they wanted a group...all they had to do was say so and they would give them the same thing.

they stopped the after school thing for a while because of the complaint that the school was a part of it even though they just provided a room and supervisor

separation of church and state and the 1st amendment can contradict each other at times.

but I got from the post above about walking away if you don't like it....as that. it reminded me of the boy praying story

Soon we will be saying the pledge like this

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under Obama, indivisible, with higher taxes and no rights for all.

No it's not photshoped.
You can get one on ebay.

hahaha I love it! Good one!! I don't hear too many objections that one yet. Now that's a flag I would burn.

Here's an objection. I don't support that flag nor do I support the paranoia behind it.

I personaly see no paranoia behind it.

But I'd be willing to place bets that you will see some flying that flag.

That would be their choice to fly it, right? No one is forcing anyone to do so.

I never said anything about being forced to do it.

Yay, an objection:banana: Paranoia? Naw, just wide awake as to what is happening within America's borders. but I'd still like to burn that flag and wave the one that represents America

Yep TJN, didn't see where you quoted it being forced either. whoa

Yes, personally no president's face should be on the American flag, just the red, white and blue. It's desecrating the flag and I personally feel it's wrong. Yes, I would burn it, hell, I'd have a bon fire with friends and chug a few brewskies too.drinker drinker drinker drinker

What is paranoid is to think that this flag will ever exist in place of the American flag or to assume that Obama would want it that way. I don't worship objects, period. But since it's a free country people can do as they like. The pledge was made up by a small group of individuals. These individuals so not represent me as an individual. If some thinks I am not patriotic because I refuse to recite their pledge, that's their hang up not mine.

I never had to say the pledge of allegiance in order to be loyal to my country. I'm loyal to this country with or without having to say so.

Children are given an education and will more than likely be loyal to this country regardless. Just because you say the pledge doesn't make anyone any more loyal to this country than someone who does.

Benedict Arnold was loyal to this country before he betrayed us.

benedict arnold was never loyal to this country and would not in good faith said a pledge to it . this is a volentary country we don't have to support the rats that live amongst us .
