I've studied many of the world's religions recently, from Ancient Egypt, Christianity, Kabbalah, (Need to study that one a bit longer as 40 years of study just scratches the surface.) Islam, Hindu, Shinto, I Ching, Taoism, Ancient Greek and Roman pantheons, and multiple translations of the Bible, and many other sacred texts. As far as this topic, everyone and everything that is, is proof of God. You just need to step back, and take in the whole picture in order to hope to comprehend something as vast, far away, and close as God. You are right to believe in yourself though, as each human has within them the spark of divinity. Indeed we not only have a link to God within each of us, but we also through him, have a link to everything.

40 years of study? How long have you been studying kabbalah? your profile says you are 30? Confused there. Typo?

I meant that for one to really learn Qabbalah, it takes upwards of 40 years of study. I have only been studying the occult for 25 years.

Religion is not to blame for the interpretations of the human.

Religion(s) are a wellspring from god...

Mankind simply twists them because of its 'visual' of god.

I don't think all religions are a wellspring from God. There are a lot of sick and twisted religions out there.
here are a couple of them
http://www.churchofeuthanasia.org/
canabilism, suicide, abortion, sodomy

http://csp.org/nicholas/A58.html

psychedelic use is encouraged and part of enlightenment

http://www.jedichurch.org/
church based on jedi teaching from star wars

http://www.venganza.org/about/open-letter/
just gotta read this one, love that spaghetti, lol

What pray tell is wrong with Jedi teachings...

The writers of that tale borrowed from buddah, tao, christ and many others...

Wisdom and harmony...

in each of those...

and something greater than all of us...

yet within us...

What is wrong with teaching this...

It is a truth.

Never said it was wrong. Just was in response to all religions are from God. church of the jedi does not claim a deity but a force. there is no God in the religion. no deity of any form really. we probly could start a whole new thread just talking about the jedi religion. if you want go ahead and start a new post. could be interesting.

Perfect example of a religion twisted by man... There is still a foundational idea from which sprang this 'religion'...

But it is twisted...

AS are many others. Some in a large way some in ways so subtle as to fool the people that practice it.

There's a religion of Sodomy!!??

See, if I would have known that, I wouldn't be on the siterofl rofl

"sick" and "twisted" may be a bit harsh for some of these concepts:
Sodomy- I guess I shouldn't go here, but...sexual orientation is hardly a learned behaviour, attraction is attraction. Can't fight chemistry!

Abortion-shouldn't go here either, but...a viable procedure in some cases. I don't advocate its use as birth control, however, in the case of a rape victim or a pregnancy that could result in the death of mother or child or both, then I see it as an option.

Suicide- yeah...pain,fear,suffering in all their subtle and gross forms can wear a person down. I'd want the choice or give someone a choice for release...viewpoints vary culture to culture on this one. Did you check out the suicide thread here? Very interesting observations.

Cannabilism-Does it really taste like chicken? Also a cultural thing that we in "western civilised" societies can't grasp. Practiced for thousands of years: a way to gain the power of a fallen enemy or imbue yourself with the wisdom and spirit of lost family. Sure, it doesn't compare to wine and wafers...or maybe it does. "Food" for thought?

not sure didnt look enough into it. found a site that listed a lot of "weird" religions so just started pulling ones for examples to the earlier post. as far as which ones are legit i would have to dig into them deeper. read the faq page that is enough to make you wonder how screwed up some people really are.

Religion has been traditionally the biggest cause of war in human history.
I don't agree with that. I think that political motivations are responsible for wars and that blaming religions is just a smokescreen that has been used to hide the true motivations.

So what exactly is a "legit" religion? How does one decide? And more to the point, what happens when two people disagree on the legitimacy of a particular religion?

This is the very heart of religious discrimination.

Politics and religion have oft been close bedfellows.
Perhaps it would be accurate to say wars are tradtionally caused or excused by religions.
