dragoness....quiet has shown that separation of church and state isn't in the constitution (if I remember correctly) but there are many religions that don't agree with it and there are people in those same religions that don't have a problem with it.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . ." The phrase "separation of church and state" is generally traced to an 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists, where Jefferson spoke of the combined effect of the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment. It has since been quoted in several opinions handed down by the United States Supreme Court.[1]

If congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion and marriage is a religious right, congress has no business in it.

Therefore any and all within age restrictions and mental capacity should be able to marry whenever they get ready and pursue life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

i have repeatedly said I have no problem with it. i'm tired of the religion card being used. but what you quoted protects people to practice whatever religion. it has nothing to do with marriage.

I have only said it a hundred or so times in here.Marriage is not a right for anyone!I don't know if you can't read what I am saying or you are in such denile you can't accept it.Enought of the marriage is a right!!!!It's not and never has been. It's not in our bill of rights or the constitution. It doesn't matter where it started or where it came from it is not a right for anyone!Straights, gays,it doesn't matter. You don't have any rights concerning marriage.

So how is that it has to be fight for anyone to get married then?

Because people believe marriage is for a man and a woman and not two gay guys or two gay girls. They don't want something sacred to turn into something they feel is being taken over by force by a bunch of people who could care less about how they feel about the issue.

If people do not believe marriage is for gays then they need not marry someone of the same sex. How does it become their business for all?

Noone should have to fight to get married if they are of age and of mental capacity.

what?

1. trisexual

One who is attracted to men, women, and horses. Often a person who has failed with both genders opts to be a trisexual so that they can make love to a horse while also being able to date if the time ever comes. Bestiality and bisexuality in one ugly mesh.
Trisexual:

I loves my man.
I loves my woo-man.
I loves my horse.

this has to be a joke.

WHAAAAAAT!!!? A frickin horse!? I know about the donkey thing in Mexico...but I thought that was just show for money. OUCHHHHHH!!!!!
Men are bad enough...some even worse...but a HORSE??? Great Danes?? Jeeeze Louise....what is happening to this world??

dragoness...i wasn't saying you did but alot of people that don't even believe keep bring it up....

but there re other religions that don't agree with it....as well as some athiests as well. their are people that it doesn't bother them or they don't like it from all sides. my friend who is wiccan...her coven doesn't agree with it because it throws off the balance of nature (not sure i explained it the way she does)

All of those who have a problem with it shouldn't marry someone of the same sex then but they should also keep their noses out of others business.

Two people getting married is between them not the world.

laugh didn't take it as an attack. my point was it's not just one relgion doing it or them all not wanting it to happen. if the laws get passed for it to be legal then it's majority vote....whoever is voting

Draggoness,
That still doesn't show how heterosexuals EARNED their right to marry legally.

There was a time when legally married meant very little, esp for the women.
It probably started out meaning, legally in the eyes and laws of god.
Then became a way for a man to lay claim to the women,(legally) and then their children. Probably kept down on men killing men and the whole drag'em by the hair caveman mentality.

Women fought for what it means today.
At one time women could not own land. Then as they gained rights, women would use the idea of legality to gain benefits from the Gov. such as, tax-breaks, SSI if the man died, rights to property, and continued responsibility for child support.

It's really hard to say where the Gov became involved.
Little by little?????

When did it change from being married in a church (in god's house)
to being something done by a justice of the peace?

In the eye's and laws of the Catholic Church, divorce is still not recognized. In society it is, but if you are Catholic, the church will not remarry you!
One time only!

Plenty of people do not believe marriage is sacred. Just look at the divorce rate. People get married for lust and convenience. Just look at the peole that would rather live "in sin" before marriage if at all. Straight people it seems would rather overlook marriage. Rarely anymore do marriages stay solid. Soo...let gays get married...what is it going to hurt? Is someone afraid they will make straights look bad? If straight people can't make it work no one should?

Do straight people stay in with the writings of the bible? If you are going to say sacred it implies biblical. Do straights stay celebate before marriage? Do they wait for "the one"? No...they do not for the most part. They have sex with many and keep going til they find someone that satifies a need or a want. At least for awhile.

I have used this several times. It is what it is. It is government. Marriage used to be between a man and a woman because it gave him ownership. You are right. She was as a cow is to a farmer. Property. Marriage back when was not we think.
Marriage can be as simple as jumping over a broomstick.
A woman used to couldn't marry til she could come to the marriage with a dowry or something of value that the man wanted, could use, or liked. Or...she could marry without her consent simply because he wanted her for his, or her family needed money. So....she was sold off to some old geezer. Some as early as 12.

Food for thought:

If we go back to the Bible, it doesn't say anything about obtaining a marriage license, contracts, and legal documents to be legally married.

Every state has specific licensing and legal requirements for marriage regardless of your religion. Marriage is a civil contract. If it wasn't a civil contract, atheists couldn't get married.

Marriage is technically a legal contract. You aren't married until you get that piece of paper.

Then there's common in law marriage in some states (not mine).
