this is funny...the pageant date back as far as the ancient greeks and probably before...they weren't christian lol....and if miss america/miss usa is a christian organization...so what...they started it so they can use their guidelines (i haven't found anything saying it was started by a religious group though)....

and as far as sports go...again the olympics started with the ancient greeks. and i've never heard you have to be of some religion to play football

Huh? I must have missed something, who said they were christian organizations?

I was going back to the OP. it was suggested it was. just as sports etc

Actually I have read the OP three times, where does it say that? I don't see anything suggesting that at all.

Where is the generalization?, she referred to the christian right, when using the word they in the second sentence?

"It wasn't so long ago that sports, beauty contests, politics, schools and all sorts of institutions were closed to anyone outside the mainstream.

I find it immensely entertaining that those who now claim to be on Christian higher moral ground are outraged because they are not the exclusive holders of that prized territory they carved out and excluded others from whether it be in a beauty contest, a church, a town square, a television screen...where ever.

Guess what? The world is not full of cookie cutter Bible thumped Stepford wives despite Miss California's best attempt to be one.

Funny you all howling about political correctness silencing other voices when for so many years you were the epitome of suppression and politically correct speech. "

it was blantly toward christians (and not even some) and I am not the only one in here that read it that way

going even to the beginning....what do you think was meant by if you don't believe??? believe in what??? then adding one specific religion after that?? come on

'If you don't believe' makes those places christian organizations?

Again there is no mention of any being christian organizations. As for the title it was a play on exclusivity. And people not including people in those institutions.

By the way what religion is the most vocal about gay marriage?

Okay...let's look at this again.

You can't win if you don't believe?

How about this...

You can't attend if you don't believe?

Ahhh for the old days...when you couldn't enter if you weren't a white girl! (SARCASM not what I think)

The times they are a changin' eh?

I know that the Christian "right" will claim ignorance to this fact but it is true.

They have had the advantage for so long they cannot see it as such anymore, they see it as a right now.

again...they??? generalization

Okay, break down, "they" include but are not limited exclusively to all Christians who believe Morality is exclusively Christian, all Christians who believe that the separation of church and state is designed exclusively so that Christians can carry on publically forcing others to observe their rituals, all Christians who cannot see how saying Happy Holidays to people is more respectful to people than stubbornly clinging to the selfish beliefs everyone should have to hear Merry christmas even if they possibly do not celebrate it, all Christians who believe without their religion being forefront in this country, this country will degrade into a puddle of corruption, deviance and decay, all Christians who believe that their religion is right for all, all Christians who believe that they are being persecuted because they cannot "save" the rest of us, etc...

I think I forgot somethings on there but is that a better break down of all the "rights" some Christians have become accustom to that are not rights at all.

I assume the "makes those places christian organizations" is your interpretation? not mine and i know not some of the others.

what was exclusive???? i pointed out that those aren't christian organizations nor were the origins of them. so why bring a specific religion into it????

have I condemned you for being gay???? no!!! so I don't appreciate the generalizations just as you didn't appreciate it with Fanta.

if it's a matter of interpretation...I saw Fanta even get more specific. I don't like generalization of any kind and I don't pick and choose.

when if you don't believe is used...then followed by naming a specific religion....put 2 and 2 together...that plus previous threads

we have already done the whole merry christmas thing

but THAT I can accept better. I don't force my beliefs...in fact those that do i have called them out on it. I don't beleieve it's right for all. everyone has the right to their beliefs and opinions.

I will be the first to say that their have been atrocities committed in the "name of God" and I will speak out against those people as well. but as you can see....generalizing (without being more specific) lumps me in with those people and that isn't right or true

That's all there is to it? Kind of a let down.
Another question. Why would they let a flaming gay dude judge how purty a girl is???
Seems like he'd be better suited to judge a Mr America contest.
They'd have the tale he would admire.

Now there is no mistaking that statement. I completely agree. I can appreciate a good looking woman or man and not be one bit interested in them sexually.
