So what do you think personally? Should I keep holding out after a whole year or trying to survive or should I just take the offer from the military, even though i'm not really favoring the wars anyhow, but due to the financial situation, I'm sort of pressured to make drastic changes?

I'm sure you'll not find anyone who will admit to telling you
what to do ... you'll have to decide what to do yourself.

I spent 4 years in the Navy. I sometimes question whether I
should have stayed in and retired (would have at 39 years old),
and could have continued on with other work afterwards.

I understand the issue with not being employed for a year and
to have a $30k signing bonus in front of you. Personally, I
would not want to be on the ground - I'd much rather be on
a ship or in the Air Force ... have you investigated those options?

Ever met someone at a bar that ended up turning into a lasting relationship? I get the impression that most at bars are looking for casual sex. Just curious

Absolutely not. Most people at a bar are not in their
"correct frame of mind" ... every woman I've met at a
bar has been, at most, a good friend ... nothing has
been lasting. I've had better luck at Baskin Robbins :)

Just to clarify....I think higher education is great. And learning anything is valuable as evrything is ultimately connected. But I don't think degrees and GPA's mean much more than someone is a good test taker and does okay in a traditional teaching environment. Its not really an indication of how smart someone is.

The argument from the employee's point of view is that you
"stuck it out even though you didn't want to do a lot of the work".

That's the first thing employee's are interested in - the fact that
you will do the work and follow through. Of course, if you have
a degree in the accounting field, you can't apply to be a Nurse :)

What would you have done differently in regards to your education if you could?

I would have completed my college education and been a History major instead of an English major.

It probably doesn't matter much. The degree is merely "proof of accomplishment".
But if you're talking about you career path and how you might have done something
different - that's understandable.

For example, technology and medicine are great areas to be involved with these
days (and for the future). So if your degree is in veterinarian science, it won't
apply directly :) Want to hear something wacky? I'm in the software business
(programmer, consultant, ad nauseam), but the degree is in Criminal Justice.

So much for opinion on philosophy ...

Have you considered a course in elementary English Grammar and Writing?

I'd invite you to consider a College (or University) course, but you've not
mastered the very basics.

And even worse, you've plagiarized ... why not just point us to the website
you've COPIED FROM ??? For example:
http://www.zetatalk.com/poleshft/p60.htm

You've provided *NO* personal opinion ... only a facsimile

Someone might say, all I use a computer for is internet and email, so you recommend that they install Linux. The problem comes when they buy a new printer or iphone, video game, some software program, etc, etc, & expect it to work. Well they find there's no printer driver for Linux, their iPhone, game & program won't work. While there may be ways to workaround some of these issues, it's just not gonna fly with the average user.

That argument doesn't hold water anymore - maybe 5+ years ago.
All of my printers are supported, right out of the box ... AAMOF,
all my printers have been successfully "auto-detected" (I primarily
use SuSE Linux). I can even access multimedia files on my iPhone.

That whole, "Linux [distros] are not for desktop use" is ludicrous.
Look at all the number of large corporations using it on the
desktop. (for example Novel's SuSE Enterprise Desktop or
Red Hat Enterprise Desktop).

Try this as a comparison - go out and buy a copy of Windows.
Install it on your PC - good luck having it detect all your
hardware successfully. I'm not talking about a pre-loaded
Windows machine. The story I hear from folks in this situation
is that Windows needs to go out on the Internet to find the
drivers ... and what usually happens is that the driver for the
network card is unavailable (on the install DVD/CDs), so the
user is tasked with having to find the driver while at work or
at a friend's house, burn it to CD, then bring it back home.

Every distro I have tried in the last couple of years (and I try
many popular distros) has been able to auto-detect all my
hardware and install the drivers appropriately, out of the box.
(And my desktop machines are all hand-built using individual
component hardware. My laptops are all usable with Linux).

I have personally met and spoke with a couple hundred
"average Joe's / Joan's" who are successfully using a Linux
distro at home on a desktop or laptop ... even my 3 kids
(14-18) all use SuSE Linux on their laptops (very current,
modern laptops) - they are using Linux by choice, not by
my suggestion. Non of these people are "geeks" by any
stretch of the imagination. (I've written a Linux book and
am interviewing people for an new, upcoming book).

I will agree if you're a hardcore game player, and you want
to run a broad spectrum of games to play, Windows will
be the better choice - actually, a dedicated game console
would be better.

So far I have only found a few drinks I really Like. And even then it depends on where I go. One place never has pineapple juice. My drinks are Captian and Pineapple, malibu Bay breeze, and whats called a bulldog.

Vodka neat or Texas Tea (which has one liquor more than a Long Island Tea :)

What I mean is should I post pics of my boys?

I won't post or allow my 3 kids to post photos of them to any
public website, be it Mingle, Facebook, MySpace, and so on.

There are a heck of a lot of weirdos out there.

have any of you ran across someone that you knew as a child or babysat for
it was funny i ran across this kid that had the same last name of a friend i used to babysit for when he was 5yrs old... i email him and to find out its him.... the last i heard he join the military so im waiting for him to email me back..

Never been one for FB. But I did have a similar experience. A friend of mine
brought her convertible to the dealership for repair - they wanted to charge
for all repairs, so she asked if I could be her "husband" and go up with her
to "negotiate".

While waiting for management to talk amongst themselves, we went to the
showroom and were admiring a retro Mini Cooper (from the 60's). Well we
were talking to the receptionist about it and I just couldn't shake the
"feeling" I somehow knew this person (she has a VERY distinct Texas accent).

I said, "you know, I used to know a girl who has your exact same voice" ...
she replied with, "what was her name?", with which I replied and of course
I kinda freaked out (it *was* the girl from long ago) ... I said my name and
she flipped out, jumping out of her chair screaming (no, she wasn't running
away from me :)

It is a small world.

I guess nobody has a sense of humor anymore.

The problem with the Internet, actually, what I should say is,
social interaction sites (web forums, USENET, and so on) is
many people post opinions and assume everyone else can
see your facial expressions.

In other words, if we're sitting at a bar and you said everything
you write above with a devilish grin, we'd all probably "get" the
fact that you're being sarcastic (funny or whatever you want to
call it).

In order to convey some sort of hint that you're kidding around,
you have to give folks a visual clue - maybe an innocent smiley
face at the end of the post, otherwise people will take your
post at face value. Or quite possibly, if everyone knows you're
the class clown, they might take your post with a grain of salt.

There is this thing called "Netiquette" and has well-defined
"rules of the road" on how to effectively communicate your
intentions and attitudes through textual content.

Make sense?

Solution = Format Windows partition -> Install Linux -> Presto!;

If you get Ubuntu, has firefox browser pre-installed and also transmission(bit-torrent). You will notice no decreased functionality, only much rejoicing.

Some actually believe that some nations or organizations possess the necessary means to control the weather and disasters of the world. Another form of warfare?

I've heard this before but thought it silly. Now that this earthquake took out Haiti's equivalent to our White House and other important buildings it makes a person wonder if it is actually possible.

What is your opinion here?

Sheesh.

There's no political motivation to level Haiti as has happened.
