Did ya notice that there aren't any public mass shootings? shocked

The sky in the boot-heel of New Mexico, is completely vacant of planes like it was in the 1800'ssurprised If someone told you a year ago that there would be one plane a day in the skies, if that even, would you have believed them???noway

What have you observed that has changed, and will change back... or be like this forever?shades

I've noticed more women using the sidewalk out front lately.
Before all this, mostly just men and kids. Lately more women walking alone?

Was down on the beach yesterday and I noticed more cars with families driving slower but hardly anyone walking on the sand.
Before, families were on the beach and cars had less people in them and moving faster.

I drove by one of the casinos and people were fishing all arond it.
Before, people were in the casino and there were so many cars all the time, you couldn't see around the water's edge. It might be that more people are fishing than gambling now that its closed or it might just be without the cars blocking the view, I can see the people fishing.
I also noticed boat ramp parking lots were full of empty trailers, more full than usual. Indicates more people out on the water with their boats.

I noticed construction sites are completing in less time.
With the bars closed and people home earlier at night getting more sleep, workers might be that much more efficient and energetic than normal.
Plus, with money issues, fewer people are calling off work, taking personal days or vacation time. At least that's my guess.

I usually keep a packed pantry but found out it was
not enough to go 2 weeks..I think people will store more food.

I am acutely aware of those around us with small children who
might not be eating..we try to help.

After it is over I think I will be a lot more aware of large
gatherings..and their potential for contagion.

Wow, these are cool observations...

Tom, were people catching anything? or were they too far away to notice....

Yeah, the work thing, we are working too with construction, but isolated on a mountainside, and we're glad to have it! and there's not much to do out here in the desert when we get home. So many are stuck not working, and most are going out of business now.

Lots of half ghost strip malls will be on the horizon from just general observation... They worked so hard to get all these up and running to get as far as they did, and now are destitute. Beyond sad.... One in five might survive. Maybe one in ten, or worse when/if this subsides.

Soufie, I believe you are correct on the storage issue, and also, those survival bug-out mags will be the new bibles of the future for what to get and what's not efficient.

You guys rock for trying to help...drinker

I bet lots of families are far beyond hungry right now. I know there are lots in New Orleans for the most part. I get news daily from trenches there. Scary place to be right now.

Yeah, catching a lot and some pretty big ones.
My Gf dad went fishing today and caught a 30lb drum.
He gave it to a family that was fishing nearby.

When I paid my rent this month I asked the woman who writes my reciept (I always pay in person) if she has been having tennants with rent issues.
She said they are but not listening to excuses because there are plenty of jobs to be had if you want to work.
I thought it was kinda cold.

There's a big difference between a career job and pizza delivery.
Still, when I was working I took part time jobs outside my career to help pay bills. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Landlords can't kick tennants out or shut off their utilities but that cold response hit my empathy for them. My landlord owns multiple apt buildings and duplex complexes around here. I know they are not hurting.

When my son broke down yesteday a woman pulled up and gave him $40 because she can't help any other way. I didn't see it but he had the money to go buy a tow strap (I took him) so I could pull his car home.
He's been having money issues and stressing out about food. I gave him almost 40lbs of meat I had in my freezer about a week ago.

This stuff is hitting home in so many different ways.
Some who can help do but some who could help won't.
People are strange.

well, humans are terrible for nature. It is a good thing for nature that so many are staying out of it and in their buildings. It is just a huge inconvenience for US. The good and the bad of everything.

With little more than a tenth of an acre... myself and three elderly relatives grew lemons, red graperfuit, grapes, watermelon, cucumber, onion, tomatoes, green peppers, jalapeno, habanero, ghost peppers, cilantro, basil, various other herbs, etc., -had three laying hens that required little feed and gobbled up nasty insects like candy -and could have had chicken meat if we had not grown emotionally attached. We also had an avocado tree that begins to produce just before an annual wind and rain storm knocks all the fruit off -but oh, well -looks pretty.

If you have access to dirt -plant stuff you can eat -and raise stuff you can eat.

I'm still working, I am a cashier/store clerk at a gas station. These are a few things I've observed with the regular customers...

Most seem to be more conscious of their surroundings, they aren't bumping into others so much anymore through lack of paying attention.

They are waiting their turn coming in and out of the store, showing a little more respect to the one who arrived at the door first.

The ones who used to cover their mouths with their hands when they cough, are now using their arm.

They've slowed down, most are no longer in a rush.

The registration for my truck expires this month.
Can't get ahold of the DMV to find out if they are open.
Don't really want to go there if they aren't.
Went online to see what's going on but no notice at their site.

Found this:
http://www.cars.com/articles/can-i-visit-the-dmv-or-get-an-emissions-test-under-a-coronavirus-shelter-in-place-order-or-business-closures-419639/

Online I can renew but they tack on an extra $3.50 for doing it.
Mail in adds $3.50 too.
Since I normally go in person and pay cash I pay the tax and only the tax.
Now $3.50 isn't going to send me into finacial hardship but I am really not interested in putting my banking info on the internet or having my check info in the mail.
I really want to keep my registration due date because I have my insurance renewal next month.
This is slightly irritating, LOL.

Got a letter from one of my banks (I have a few) telling me they are going to invalidate my card if I don't make a purchase in one month.
It expires in two.
What the hell?
That particular card is my emergency fund for emergency only.
That's my money in their bank.
Why are they trying to make me spend my own money?
What I should do is go buy something for a dime.
It will cost them more than that to process the charge.
Problem is, what can you buy for a dime anymore?
With the pressure on today's gas pumps I doubt I could squeeze out just a dime's worth of gas?
Okay, now I am on a quest to buy something for a dime with my debit card.
Anyone got a diamond ring they wanna sell?

What's next, my Walmart money card expires?
Another emergency measure I keep in my truck (just in case).

I had a fraudulent charge on my credit card and called them yesterday. I got through to one person who ackowledged it was fraudulent and then transferred me to the fraud department. I was on hold for an hour and finally hung up. I don't think there enough people working to keep up with the demand for calls.

I've noticed less traffic on the roads but an increase of people at the supermarket. At least for the most part they are wearing face masks and trying their best to stay away from each other so I guess the social distancing is working somewhat.

Nice and quiet in the street, on the roads, in supermarket etc. NO tourists, I'm loving it!

No echoing of shrieking kids in the supermarket or the sometimes deafening sound of a gazillion people talking in there. (The acoustics are horrible)

I love going for a walk through a bungalow holiday park near my home. It gorgeous there, trees, bushes, flowers, chirping birds.
Now it's all quiet ---> no electric tools and lawn mowers.
Finally I can enjoy my peace and quiet in nature without people ruining it :)

I know that I too profit from this being a tourist area as because of them there's shops, larger supermarkets, restaurants and whatnot. But boy am I glad they are NOT here for a while.

The distance-keeping is still a bit odd, but at least now no one is bumping into you with shopping carts in the supermarket (usually tourists).

So that's the biggest difference in this area: no tourists!
For once we get to enjoy our own country, well area.

I haven't been out in a monthsad but at the least I am also not illhappy

The drop in killing is a positive thing.

these STUPID hackers, thieves , do Not take a break. this seems to be a great time for them to double up on harassment. If they put that much energy into
earning a living legally the world would be so much better and they wouldn't
have to STEAL!

Ok I'm off of my soap boxlaugh

Living in the largest city in the foothills of Northern California. The street out front has traffic like it did when I first came here in 91. Grateful to be in the country over the city. So quiet and peaceful.I don't watch TV so I'm not getting the fears the media installs.
I don't know about anyone else but I can feel it in the air. It seems strange the absolute calm in the earth. It's actually almost scary it's so calm out... I can handle it staying this way

I’ve noticed more families outside taking care of their lawns or going for a walk in the neighborhood.

I’ve noticed I’m studying more than usual.

Some people are more patient at the grocery store and others not so much.

I am loving the lack of traffic on the roads .. my commute to the city is much speedier . Finding a park close to the hospital (usually horrendous) is now easy peasy .
But the best positive result ....a Big Decline in road traffic traumas .

Missing my caffiene fix on the way home ..,after a 12 hr shift !!! Hospital coffee is yuck !!!

less pollution in the atmosphere.. less littering in the streets .

The City seagulls are probably wondering where all the people and free food have gone .

Zoom has taken off for workplace meetings and education sessions .. some people do not seem to grasp that yes others in the group can actually see and hear everything they do .

Doctors Are also using video calls for consultations .
