Magic Johnson on Donald Sterling Racist Comments on NBA Countdown

www.youtube.com/watch?v=erm0FGNt-94

1) Magic was fired for something, according to his own statement, until I find out otherwise I'm assuming it was when he had to tell his bosses and woman he was HIV +.

2) He's speaking out on this because his was THE name mentioned on the recording(s).

MJ says he was really upset and hurt when he heard the tapes.

He was also hurt for all African Americans and all minorities because when a man who owns a team in the NBAs, and Donald Sterling has had issues in the past, so this is not the first time, and I've known Donald, one of the first men I met when I came to LA, Dr. Bus took me to his annual Malibu beach party, actually my first week in LA, then I met with Donald two or three times, he wanted to discuss the issues with his Clipper team.

So I had a friendship with him. So for him to then make these comments, or alleged comments, about myself as well as other African Americans and minorities there's no place in our society for it, there's no place in our league because we all get along...

He's put his own team in a tough situation.

So I believe that once Commissioner Silver does all his due diligence, gets all the information gathered, the information, we gotta, he's gotta come down hard, he shouldn't own a team anymore. And he should stand up and say I don't want to own a team anymore.

This is bad for everybody, it's bad for America so I'm really upset about it.

3) From an ownership capacity to being a Hall of Fame player, to now your role with the Dodgers you mentioned not going to any Clipper games again as long as he's affiliated with the team.

That's a strong statement because if you're not welcome, obviously everybody below you, so to speak, isn't welcome. So can you talk about that statement about not attending?

Well, he said don't bring me to the game on the tape so I have no problem with that, so I won't be going.

This is not good, this is not good for America.

Then I think about the fact that we have made him money, but we're not welcome at the game, and so that's, you can't over that, and that's why everybody's upset, black, white, Latino, everybody's upset at Donald Sterling right now.

4) There's been a pattern of behavior with him so in the back of their heads (players) they kinda knew he was like that.

What we have to understand is all these young men need their jobs though, right, and they need to take care of their families.

5) Since this began yesterday, and it isn't going away anytime soon and new recordings are coming out as we speak. So what do you plan to do, how do you plan to handle this going forward?

It's really not me, it's now Adam Silver and the Owners of the league. I'm going to say what I've been saying along, he's got to give up the team.

When you've got the President of the United States saying this is bad, you got all the fans around the country, different races of people saying its bad, it's time for him to exit, I don't know if he will because he's been used to fighting every battle.

6) But he loves to fight battles, don't you think knowing him for the last 35 years that he will fight to the death to keep this team over giving it up?

He probably will because that's who he's been, but the fans will have a say so, the Clipper fans will have a big say so if he does come back.

The fans will have to make a decision because he has a big African American following and a big Latino following, and they will speak, TRUST ME.

Nobody's ever gonna want to play for the Clippers ever again. They will probably want to play for Doc Rivers and Chris Paul but its gonna be hard for them to go play for the Organization.

whoa

Magic definitely has a bone to pick. And he plans on using his star power to sway everybody to his way of thinking. He's very proud about involving the President of the United States and the rest of the country by getting everyone to side with him.

He's even threatening to instigate animosity from the fans and other players against the Organization itself. He really is full of himself. But he did show his hand by saying when Mr. Silver does his due diligence he'll have all the information he needs to toss Mr. $ out.

So who leaked the tapes?

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then...

Why isn't Magic Johnson being investigated for his part in this scandal? Hasn't he violated some kind of ethics code or morals clause by instigating this and stirring the flames?

What's even more disturbing about the kind of man he's showing himself to be by his own words and actions, he's a Hall of Famer and a team owner.

His public image (example) should be positive and uplifting, not detrimental and divisive.

I think your information is wrong, Johnson RETIRED after announcing his infection and STILL Was chosen and played on the Olympics dream team after

and PLENTY of people are speaking about what was said , but I have yet to see anyone call a press conference for doing so,, they merely are responding when asked,,,,

there is nothing to investigate, if (and there has been no denial whatsoever from Sterling) this was consentually recorded,,,,,with a witness in the room

there can be no real evidence about who leaked it and really, if TMZ had got it from MJ, do you really think they wouldn't use that cash cow?.....lol

everything mj says is spot on,, mj took some accountability in his scandal by retiring, and he seems consistent in believing Sterling should retire his position too,,

still wondering if this was a muslim/American issue instead of a black/white issue,, if people would still be seeing this guy as some victim and MJ or others who publicly respond with their disagreement as members of some conspiracy,,,,

Ex-NBAer: Donald Sterling's 'baited' comme...

www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaMKLGbp4WY

Former NBA player Rick Barry and PR analyst Marvet Britto react to Donald Sterling's exclusive interview with AC360.

Mr. Barry opines that Mr. $ opened his mouth and stuck his foot in it when he spoke about MJ not being generous with minorities in LA.

When Mr. $ is actually right about this.

It's been Magic Johnson whose been spear heading this entire thing trying to tarnish Mr. $'s reputation. When he's actually helped minorities financially, what has Magic done for them in LA?

Even before Mr. Silver banned him for life, Magic was giving directions on air about what should be done to Mr. $. And Mr. $ has every right to call him out on his public behavior and malicious intent.

As for not asking for forgiveness when everybody else wanted to hear him beg on their timetable, every smart lawyer knows its better for a boiling pot to let off steam so you don't get burned removing the lid.

Then Marvet went ballistic when she heatedly said, "He offended a community, but he further offended a community by insulting someone that the African American community widely adores and respects, Magic Johnson."

According to Marvet, she says, "Magic Johnson has nothing to do with this issue apart from the fact that he took a picture with a young lady that Don Sterling has a relationship with.

Magic Johnson is not the topic and therefore the apology should not have focused on Magic Johnson. It should have focused on him being humble and really more apologetic than he was, I think he's more apologetic for having gotten caught than he is for the act.

So for me, I think that the lateness, it's almost two weeks later that he came forward to apologize, speaks deeply to Don Sterling's sincerity."

whoa

How quickly she forgets Magic's real role in all of this right from the beginning. And now she's trying to stir the pot and create more bad feelings by criticizing the way Mr. $ apologized.

Then when Barry, whose own son played for Mr. $ was asked if he really believed Don is a racist, he said, "Not really.

Because of the other incidents that have taken place in his life, and some of the things he's done outside the NBA.

But when he opened up the door and finally did something that had a negative impact on the NBA, Adam Silver came down hard on him, and I'm so proud of what he's done in that regard, there's no place for a man with these type feelings...

One other thing to bring up about Sterling's situation with his wife... LeBron James has said that the players do not want any member of the Sterling family to have ownership in that team.

That should be enough for her to realize that it's foolish for her to move on and to try and have a lawsuit, I hope she listens to that."

whoa

There's obviously hatred on the players part against the entire Sterling family, and it's being stirred and aired by the media.

As justified as people feel they are about their true feelings, they are looking like they are more racist than the Sterlings' could ever be.

And it's really bringing a bad smell to the NBA overall.

Now I know why I never watched their games. There's too much negative drama on and off the court for me.

spock

they are 'more racist' because they have an opinion when asked about sterlings behavior...?

wow

it would only be 'more racist' if they said they didn't want any WHITES owning the team

but this is about one person, who first was exposed for his inferior view on blacks

sterlings family owning it pretty much still results in that one person, sterling, benefitting from it,,

so their stand is just as logical as sterling waiting to apologize,,,

little to do with 'hate', anymore than Sterling 'hates' blacks just because he feels they are beneath being seen with a white woman,,,

Donald Sterling Says He's Sorry, Then Insults Magic Johnson Again

blogs.marketwatch.com/themargin/2014/05/12/donald-sterling-says-hes-sorry-then-insults-magic-johnson-again/

TMZ, which originally posted the 10-minute audio recording that started it all, on Monday claimed Sterling has been rejected by at least eight law firms in his bid to sue the NBA because they all think he's toxic.

Meanwhile, Sterling's estranged wife, who has apparently been in the process of divorcing her husband for 20 years, told Barbara Walters on Sunday that she will fighting to keep her share of the team. NBA spokesman Mike Bass said Sunday that if a controlling owners interest are terminated by a three-quarter vote, all other owners interests will automatically terminate as well.

whoa

This negative spin is par for the original course.

No matter what the Sterling family says or does they will be vilified.

And I know I'm not the only American who sees this as a public lynching of an entire family over perceived slights that everybody was calmly discussing even joking about until they got Mr. Silver to publicly denounce Mr. $.

Then they all became verbose about their alleged hurt feelings while putting on fake fronts of indignation.

I know it's LA and all, but they could try a little harder to at least make their scheming look real for the cameras. laugh

Mon 05/12/14 01:56 PM
that's TMZ,, cant help what people choose to air

or that people respond to it,,,

and I just don't see the 'family' being lynched at all

it is still about Mr Sterling and preventing HIM from benefitting off the efforts of an NBA team of people he doesn't want walking with a white woman

people, who , in return, probably no longer wish to work with him,,, or have him benefitting from their work,,,,even through his family,,,,

Now the media is resting on the fact that the NBA is a private entity and can do as it likes with its members.

Well, if members of the NBA deliberately set Mr. $ up to push him out then this is malicious conduct with an intent to cause serious harm. And this would seem to be an actionable offense.

I say if Mr. $ gets voted out for his inadvertent part in this scandal, then Magic Johnson should be voted out too, for his obvious and deliberate part in bringing public shame down on the NBA Fraternity.

They say if you give them "just cause" to get rid of you they can.

But Donald Sterling didn't go out in public and cause anything. His private life was deliberately violated and then aired in a public forum to severely damage him.

And I for one will be waiting to see the NBA, who the media admits knew all about the way the Sterlings have been all these years to now just toss them out on their a$$es after publicly humiliating and chastising them for something they had no control over.

like sterling said,, its a difference between ones private affairs and ones PUBLIC perception

just like he didn't wish to deal with backlash from those opposed to this womans associations

his colleagues don't wish to deal with the backlash from those opposed to his bigotry,,,

there is no reason and no likelihood any money is going to be spent to see who released the tape,, no one made him say it,, that's the bottom line,,,

sucks that he was exposed, just as much as many high profile peoples 'private' infidelities have been exposed

but that's nothing that is isolated to his case,, and nothing that can lead to others being held accountable for words that impeded his image with his colleagues and their fans/viewers/athletes,,,

Donald Sterling Slams Magic Johnson: "What Has He Done? He's Got AIDS... I Think He Should be Ashamed"

tv.yahoo.com/news/donald-sterling-slams-magic-johnson-done-hes-got-030900656.html

From a Judeo/Christian standpoint Mr. $ is right.

And my following viewpoints are my own and not meant to criticize but merely to express my thoughts on the issues now becoming front and center on the national stage.

Keeping in mind that where I live here in the deep south we don't have any minority interests publicly pushing their secular agendas to become mainstream theology.

So from where I stand Magic should be ashamed about his promiscuous behavior that allegedly led to his HIV + condition. He shouldn't be on Oprah bragging about and promoting it. Because by doing this he's encouraging other young people to follow in his footsteps.

If he was a woman he would be shunned with this kind of reputation and would be considered to have gotten what he deserved. In fact, if he was an average man in these parts he would be in the closet because he wouldn't be openly accepted if he wasn't.

Instead, because he's a man and into sports, being an ex-star basketball player, and others who practice his same mindset admire what he's been allowed to accomplish place him on a pedestal where he obviously doesn't belong from the way more conservative eyes see him.

I say this from my own personal point of view from what I've witnessed about his scheming, two-faced, and 'holier than thou' behavior just since this story first aired.

He's a "has been" who acquired a contagious and deadly disease that sidelined him, and who then went on to raise a gay son who thinks he's better than other gay people who also said he wants to change the way things are done.

Magic already admitted in several of his previous interviews that what people think about him and his family does matter to him.

That being said, we define his personal minority social issues as such:

1) He's African American
2) He has HIV
3) His son is gay

And he's very touchy when it pertains to how he is perceived and promoted in the public eye.

In his world he might be "all that", but in others worlds he definitely isn't. And its looking more and more like this squabble that went viral was between Magic and Mr. $ from the very beginning.

I for one completely understand Mr. $'s views even those that are slightly controversial and I can see his comments aren't meant as hateful racist remarks, only a different world view.

But because they lean towards perceived criticisms of minorities, be they black African Americans, Latinos, gays, all of whom have an inferiority complex chip on their shoulders, specifically because they are not promoted as being mainstream American cultural ideals, Mr. $ is being summarily condemned for espousing and expressing his personal beliefs on these topics.

But it's not so people can learn from this situation to help change the way racism and discrimination is used to alienate and abuse certain people, it's solely for the players to make more money and profit off of turning this into a public spectacle.

Speaking of a public spectacle, I haven't seen much of or heard anything from Ms. V since she cut her own throat talking to Barbara Walters. I hope that's not the last we hear about her part in all this too.

HE GOT BUSTED!..lol

like the married man 'privately' having an affair , once the wife finds out, would it be hypocritical for her to leave his ***?

lol

something was REVEEALED about him that , rightfully, caused others to no longer choose to deal with him

shame he got busted, but that's life, no one made him think it or say it,,,,

whether it was 'private' or not

but it is ironic that the very thing that caused him so much 'sadness',, that is the PUBLIC revelation of something he felt quite an embarassment and afront to himself (that his friend associated with blacks) was because of the backlash HE RECEIVED FROM IT

and now the NBA is going through the same 'sadness', over the PUBLIC REVELATION That he is secretly a bit of a bigot,,,

o blah de , o blah da, life goes on,,,

Sterling's Apology Prompts New Controversy

I think I'm falling in love. laugh

This old codger isn't afraid to call a spade a spade. And he has the financial backing to lay it all on the line.

Good for him.

Ultimately, Mr. $ isn't going to be out anything, and in the interim he's exposing issues in the NBA that needed serious airing.

The professional hypocrisy is so apparent and deafening.

CNN is definitely bigoted on the subject of Mr Sterling.

After all the good the man has done, he's sure taking a beating for his personal thoughts.

Even though there's a whole lot of animosity being created against the Sterlings' as if they are deserving of a public execution for crimes against humanity, this public tiff between Don and Magic that is really just the two of them arm wrestling for show is helping to bring issues to the forefront of our attention that need to be aired every so often.

Mr $ seems to enjoy the publicity even though its mostly negative, so what's the harm in humoring him when ultimately he hasn't really hurt anybody's feelings with the goofy things he's putting out there.

It's been more of Magic and the Media stirring the pot to garner votes on their side, because he is after the Clipper's from everything I've researched.

Ultimately I think the Sterlings will take their best offers and move on from this. Then Mr. $ will have to find something else to amuse him and occupy his time.

These are only my personal thoughts on the matter overall.

I've really enjoyed getting to know him from a distance through everything I've learned about him so far, even the not so delicate parts. After all, it does get boring here by myself and this topic has given me something to help fill my hours of loneliness.

So I for one am rooting for the Sterlings. flowerforyou

oh, all the good he has done, though he is also unfaithful, I guess since his unfaithfulness hasn't infected him with STD, he is more to be 'revered' than MJ who is not 'all that' even though BESIDES having HIV (which , like pregnancy, is not something by itself to be ashamed of) has continued for DECADES to positively impact the lives of others ,,,,,

he may have done good, Sterling, and perhaps people should bring that to light, but that doesn't somehow excuse or erase his asinine views about the very people that are putting money into his pocke

there is a racial divide and that's nothing new or nothing that's going to change,, obviously , by the fact people can actually say this man has not 'hurt' anyones feelings and is only saying 'silly' things,,,

this man is an exposed bigot, and a hypocrite( really, I guess there are levels of promiscuity for which people should feel shame, the level where one pays random women for sex not being shameful but the one where one has sex with random women for free is)

and from what I have learned of him so far, fairly disgusting individual (evict the *****, Mexicans who lay around, blacks who stink,,etc,,,,)

I have no reason to 'root for him'

I am not 'rooting' for anyone in this except maybe for his players not to have to line his pockets anymore,,

I am, however, rooting for the whole thing to be over

I hope he goes away and lives his life and someone more worthy takes his place in all the spotlight,,,,

Magic Johnson responds to Donald Sterling

www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFDEvaIt4A0

My whole life is devoted to Earvin America.

The Board of Governors now have to do their jobs.

I'm going to pray for the man.

And if I run into them I'm going to say hello to Donald and his wife as well.

I'm a God fearing man.

The big man on campus has spoken. So now the rest of us must toe the line.

IMO, Mr Sterling has done much more good for the negro community than AL Shaftem, Jessie Jerk off or Fairycan.
