Topic: Who does Christmas Offend?

I'll come back to this later. But when these people go after ALL holidays that could have a religious meaning (whether it's celebrated that way or not) and go after EVERYONE equally....then maybe the argument might hold water with me.

Ahhhh... the targeting of Christmas. A popular PC endeavor for a few.

I noticed someone said it was OK to call a bank and tell them to take a tree down because it offended in a place (private) which was serving the public. Actually a bank is private property and the bank is free to display pretty much anything they want. That is called freedom; a concept not understood by many.

To give in to a vocal few to change long held traditions is wrong and perpetuates political correctness. I hope the bank got thousands of calls from customers explained that taking the tree down was the wrong thing to do.

Christmas to me is about nothing cause i could care less about the holiday,it has no effect on me. I truly don't care how it started, what faith celebrates it or the history behind it. Reason why is look at whats going on here people are defending it and opposing it.It's a freakin holiday why is it such a big issue cause some seculars, jews, muslims or whatevers thinks it's wrong. Are these people going to stop you from celebrating it?

Why even biiitch about the holidays seculars, jews, muslims or whatevers celebrate,is it going to stop them from celebrating it?
What does effect me a bit is that people really argue over something so,meh.

as far as public nudity....there are laws against that. Not against decorations.

Oh I know there's a law against it, but why? Because SOME people are offended by the naked human form? Is something being shown that is foreign to us? Children seem to have no problem with nudity until it is imposed upon them.

I wonder if you did a poll of all Americans as to whether they felt the naked human form was offensive, how many would say it is?

well, actually, with over half of the country beig obese, many many nude bodies probably are kind of offensive to the eye and quite a distraction for people going about their day or DRIVING,,,,,

I'm offended when people show cleavage (mainly cause I don't have much of my own laugh ) so the new law is everyone has to wear turtle necks bigsmile

I'm offended when women wear an outfit that shows cleavage and then get upset when I stare. If you don't want me looking at it, DON'T FRAME IT! winking

lmao,, I second that emotion
in reference to a chapelle joke, dont wear a cop uniform and then get upset that someone expects you to stop a crime,,,lol

there is a neat little store here called The Enchanted Forest. It is basically a Pagan store. The decorate every year for the Yule.

Should they have to remove the decorations or should I take responsibility and either stay out of the store if it offends me or protest or just let them celebrate as they wish?

I have control over myself.....I don't control others

what is a yule? is that like a yackass?

rofl rofl rofl Now THAT was funny! And I don't give a oops who it offends!!! rofl

We can all just sit around and believe in nothing and be totally miserable.

Interesting that you assume that if someone believes in nothing that they are totally miserable. I guess that would also suggest that someone who believes in ANYTHING could never be totally miserable, yes?

Sorry..should have finished reading the post before replying...

Our founding fathers wanted more than anything a country where you can be as free as possible and to practice your religion with out the Government saying one word about it.

--They also wanted a government without religion saying one word about it. The idea of separation of church and state works both ways - Government should not impose itself upon any religion (or those without religion), and those who are religious (and non) should not impose their personal beliefs upon the government. It IS possible to be a nonbeliever and still have morals.

Since I find Atheist offensive I will have to put that on the list, gay pride parades, liberals,Obama, and Pelosi.

--What is it about those who don't believe in anything offensive? Is it that they don't believe AT ALL, or that they don't believe as you do? How about Muslims? Jews? Buddhists? Hindus? I won't travel down the political path because it takes us a bit too far off topic.

BTW Bryan...you are actually helping me prove my point. Someone will always be offended over something that someone else isn't.

As a person who has no belief in a god, I'd have no problem eliminating all things religious in a public capacity. However, I'm a realist in understanding that accomplishing such a thing is impossible without becoming a Nazi-like state, or better yet, a 1984-type world where we all inform on one another.

BTW, was I trying to disprove your point? I don't think I was actively trying to do so, but maybe I was. I guess I'd have to reread my posts again. Ahhh the sweet gift of a swiss cheese brain! winking I agree whole-heartedly, no matter how it all goes down, someone will always be offended about something. If we keep all the decorations etc., someone will be offended. If we get rid of all of them, someone else will be offended.

Oh don't get me wrong...I'm thankful I don't have to see many of these bodies! If nudism were legal in public, I wouldn't do it because I find my body a bit offensive! rofl But I've been working on that for the day when it becomes legal! But then it would ruin the fun of streaking during live broadcasts, wouldn't it? laugh

laugh no worries. when it's late and I'm tired...I like to use other's posts for my benefit. It's a hobby of mine laugh

I can respect all beliefs or no beliefs....how ever you want to say it laugh

I don't expect others to believe or act as I do and I don't want their beliefs imposed on me.

That is my whole point in this topic. You can make every one happy so who gets to be happy? Live and let live.

I think we are agreeing on this subject. If I (let's say) think Halloween is offensive and I see decorations and all the stuff the stores sell for it...I'm a big girl and can ignore it.

Personally, I enjoy seeing differences. That is how I learn. I like diversity. I may not agree with someone's belief, but i respect that it is their belief and I have my own.

I have always been lumped into Bible thumpers and those that force their views down throats. I don't believe in that. That isn't how I was raised. I guess it gets on my nerves (after being lumped in so long with generalizations) to see others doing what I have been accused of. Just a crazy world we live in. without all of this the world might get boring laugh

I went to the bank today. They gave me a receipt that said Merry Christmas and had a little Christmas tree on it.

Good for them!

They'll be setting it on fire later on and having a man dressed like Moses conversing with it for our Jewish friends. Do I have that right? If it's Old Testament, it's a Jewish thing, and New Testament is Christian?

what (no head scratching smiley?)

nope, not your right unless its in your yard or on your property,
let alone the devastation to millions of modern youth who see the christmas tree as a place SANTA puts gifts and not a religious symbol at all

although, if they wanted to ADD a place for a separate burning bush for those who share that belief, I dont see why there should be any objection

--Sorry msharmony, it was a poor attempt at humor. To my knowledge, there is no "burning bush" decoration...
