So, next time a crisp salute will do and then you can be on your way."

when Obama will show respect for our country by holding his hand over his heart during the national anthom than I will show him respect!

Pish, I don't put a hand over my heart either. But that's just me. I will listen respectfully, and enjoy the national anthem, but I'm not selling my soul to anyone over it.

I am so glad that all of the soldiers who have given their time, blood, sweat and their LIVES to defend our flag and all it stands for did not say they weren't going to "sell their soul over it"! You can thank each and every one of them for you having the right to be the way you are.

Funny, the man I'm dating, who's in the military, and going to Iraq at the end of the year has no problems with my views. He knows I love him dearly, respects and supports what he and others like him do, and has no problems with the way I believe, because I have the decision and choice to believe as I do, and am not going to spew forth what others think I should.

I'm not talking about your boyfriend. I'm aghast at your attitude that you would be selling your soul to salute our flag. Simple as that.

It's a piece of fabric, ma'am. I'll salute and support the human lives, not the fabric. My symbol is the humans, not the flag.

Snopes says he does it sometimes and other times not. There are pictures of him holding his hand over his heart during the pledge and stuff.

It's a choice she's allowed to make. Why does it bother you if someone doesn't salute the flag?

I think that she was more upset at her statement of "selling your soul to salute the flag" than anything else.

What's the big to do with raising one's right hand? It's all symbolic no more no less.

Raise your hand if you're sure, and don't if you're unsure (laugh)

Maybe, it's me but I think that raising your hand can mean something...no?

not sure and I don't feel like doing research laugh but didn't the pledge (the original one with raising your hand in the air) come before Hitler?

I'm just trying to state that it's symbolic regardless if it's right or wrong. It's mean something to put your hand over your chest as you say the Pledge.
