TOLEDO, Ohio – Residents of Toledo, Ohio, are complaining that they received $25 tickets for parking their vehicles in their own driveways.

Mayor Carty Finkbeiner (FINK'-by-ner) says he stands by the citations handed out last week by the Division of Streets, Bridges and Harbor. He says the tickets were issued under a city law against parking on unpaved surfaces, including gravel driveways.

During a news conference Monday, Finkbeiner ignored a reporter's question of whether the crackdown and fines were related to the city's budget crisis.

The three-term mayor faces a recall vote in November. Critics have claimed he's wasted city money.

City Councilman D. Michael Collins calls the ticketing "Mickey Mouse nonsense." He has told residents he'll try to have the citations rescinded.

Have Obama go bow to them on your behalf!

Wow!! So much for private property!! Did they pass a law that private property had to be paved?
Yes, that sounds ridiculous. Especially considering that at one time in history, gravel WAS considered the pavement. frustrated frustrated frustrated

Wondering what Obama has to do with this at all, whether he/we bow or now? This is a local issue.

In a neighborhood near me you can't even park a pick up truck in your own driveway. The truck has to go in the garage.

grumble grumble grumble

as to the parking ticket on private property, that just sounds absurd, a waste of time, public employee time and resources.

Well, yeah. I can't imagine this is gonna hold up in court. If the car's are legal and parked on private property then I can't imagine the tickets will be deemed valid.

Have heard of this happening where there is a home owners assoc., a homeowner took his HOA to court and lost.

He'd purchased a pick up - worked on it for years, finally turned it into one of those monster trucks - large wheels etc.

The board voted and he lost his bid to park his vehicle on his driveway, he took them to court and lost!!! That sucks

you do not own the property you pay for

it is a feudal type system now

you pay the the previous deed holder for the land use

then take over the payment of the tribute of land ownership to tth lord (local govt) and if you do not pay this tribute they (the local govt) confiscate your deed

and they send the sheriff (of nottingham maybe) to remove you from said land

just a thought

but hey

what do i know

Ah, but a HOA has rules that you agree to abide by when you purchase the property. Most HOA's are very strict but it is what you agree to when you move in those neighborhoods/communities.

Which makes sense, but if I remember correctly this was added after complaints from neighbors that this truck was obstructing another neighbors view or home. Not a part of original by laws

OH YEAH!!! Seriously, people NEED to take the time to read the HOA mandates BEFORE signing the dotted line to buy that home. They can be RIDICULOUS. grumble

these are the kind of things that get passed when ""the people""

do not take their responsibilities to watch their govt seriously

(like going to city council meetings)

Well, that does change things. I myself would never move into a HOA community, I don't particularly want to have everyone else tell me I can't paint my house pink with purple polka dots if I want to laugh laugh laugh

About 15 years ago I lived in a subdivision. We paid subdivision fees and had our own subdivision rules.

We had a boat. We couldn't park it in the drive-way. We had to make a parking area under the deck in the backyard.

We could only park on one side of the street too. That wasn't good when you had company. They couldn't park in front of our house.

I live in the city now. We can't park cars in our backyards. Cars with no plates can't park in driveways. I don't about boats, etc.

So much for rights these days. Frankly I would steal cars from a wrecking yard and put them in city hall's parking lot. On top of that I would make sure the Mayor's car continually got flat tires and broken windshields.

Proof positive that government is reaching for any excuse to scam us for money under the Aegis of the law.

Don't blame Obama for this one. This is a direct sign of things to come thanks to our leadership. Besides, there are states I revile due to their really screwed up politics like Massachusetts, New York, and Ohio. There is nothing wrong with the people living there. It is the local government I despise. Even California is run by chimps. People have got to start voting "no confidence" more often with the choices we are presented.

In all reality it is the locals voting these greedy charlatans in so don't blame Obama.

during mardi gras they do this constantly, and you have to go fight it ....everytime, so most would just pay it rather than the hastle of going to court. brilliant scam. city org's are worse than hard crime bosses if ya ask me. i fought it every time and won. you have to have pictures to win though, you don't, you lose.
