Every dwelling in town should be kept up so they all look the same. Painted, manicured, paved or cemented driveways. No overnite parking on the streets, motorhomes and boats should be in storeage facilities. Ticket folks that walk on the streets and not use the sidewalks. Ticket folks who use the sidewalks for bikes.
Open all unused homes to the homeless. There are occupants for all empty dwellings.

hey keep in mind that your neighbors or neighboring properties do affect your property value.

regardless of whether you have the prettiest privacy fence or not.

It does affect property values big time!

I just called the city because a house near me had grass over 2 ft. tall. Nobody lives there right now.

It looks awful and promotes skeeters and fleas.

My child was embarrassed about it when a classmate brought them home from an activity.

So it is more a social stigma than anything.

It looks horrible. It makes the whole street look bad. How is that a social stigma?

Also, fleas start showing up and skeeters. Mice like it in there too.

Lions and tigers and bears oh my! City mice are more likely to set up sho in your home than an over grown lot. Fleas and mosquito are parasites that go where they can find food, in city environment your yard would offer more food.

I live in the city. This house was two houses from me.

The last time it happened, my dog got fleas. I don't have mice, btw. I want to keep it that way too.

Like I said, it makes the whole street look bad.

Would you want your children playing near it?

they should not be there

it is not there yard to be in

and it probably belongs to a bank or the city

and is unoccupied go fight with them if you want

go check the survey maps they will tell ya who own it

or ya could buy it then ya wouldn't have to worry about it

Florida has no sidewalks - took some getting used to but very few people walk.

They are not in the yard. They play on the sidewalk.

I did call the city. They came and cut the grass.

Unrealistic suggestion - buying the house.

When I was a kid we played our games in an abandoned lot in my neighborhood. I have fond memories of it. It was never mowed and no took care of it. It was filled with all sorts of nasties from an old house that had burned down many years ago. Some of you upscale city dwellers apparently have never spent time in poor areas of town or the country.

I did too when I was younger as did my daughter, we all played in the street. Stick ball against an abandoned building, handball, softball at the local school yard, hopscotch on sidewalk, scully on the street...

As for children in Florida today, must admit those that do play outside are riding their bikes, but most stay close to their homes and/or pools. Few children play outside as it's so hot here.

To keep it from being unoccupied and unkept, the City should force the owners to occupy it, rent it out, sell it or open it up to a homeless family.

Spread the wealth, I'm broke.

with all these foreclosures happening, my local govt is considering boarding up empty homes to get ready for the hurricane season and to prevent vandalism/squatting.

but you know nothing in life is free

We used to have rock fights at the at a local cement factory. The small wooded areas were for making out and the street was for a wide variety of games.

ACORN has been working on a plan to house the Homeless in foreclosed homes.
Some States are already putting them in them. I believe, Ca. for one.
