Industries making millions a day, a week, a month, dump their polluted waste into our water supplies and oceans every day. The EPA (a govt agency) is called, they go investigate. They find evidence that it is a problem, has been going on for some time, people in the area are sick and dying, they take samples, testimony, video evidence and documents. When the industry responsible goes to court they plead "No Contest" pay a small fine, and continue to do so!

When they make millions a day or a week, the fines the EPA, our government, charges them is rediculess! They allow them to plead NO CONTEST so they will not have to take responsibility for the many sick and dying. Why? Because they were not found guilty of the crime, and they can't be charged again, only have another fine imposed as they are still only in violation of THE SAME CRIME!

The courts of this land need to be peoples courts! If people, and not the government (our famed FEMA), had been in charge of the Katrina desaster people may have seen results that didn't leave a bitter taste in their mouths and a sick feeling in their guts! We don't have this because our government won't allow us the power of our national resources they control. They feel we are unable to manage them and without their control there could be corruption (and we all know they hate competition!)

We need citizen groups, NOT LOBBYISTS! We need representitives, NOT EXECUTIVES! We need panels, NOT COMMITTEES AND JUDGES! We need our Constitution and Bill of Rights, NOT TRAITORS WITH POWER OF LAW AND GOVERNMENT!

We have similar laws here. It used to be that SOME neighbors would let their yards fill up with run down broken cars. They would let them sit with flat tires and crap falling off them and let the grass grow around them til it was such an eye sore. It was a terrible thing especially when I keep an pretty yard. I like those around me to do the same. So, when they made it a fineable offense to park in the yard and have junk, it is a better community. No more crap lying around the neighborhood. No trashy refrigerators and trash either. The trash cans must be picked up within a couple of days, or else get a 15 dollar fine and the second offense will get it taken away until you come in and they will do something or other...oh make you buy it back to use, with a warning. There is a law that says no big rigs on the street, boats must be parked on a slab in the back yard behind a privacy fence or in the garage, and cars (where the driveway permits must park in concrete driveways. The reason for concrete is the damage done to the land by leaking cars and such.
Motor homes must be coverd with an awning in the back yard or on the side of the house with walls around it.

I have heard of the nicer newer neighborhoods make you park your pickup in the garage at night.

There are so many rules anymore by those new additions...what are they called? Huh...anyway...they have rules you must live by or dont live there. It is a stipulation to live there. If you cant deal...then you dont sign the contract. Things like you must mow your lawn every week, keep trees trimmed, you must have at least one tree. The yard must be landscaped. Sheds in the backyard cannot be taller than your roof or seen by the street. Some will not let you have the type fence you prefer. They will make you have a privacy fence (a big waste of money, because you have to keep it replaced every few years). I like a plain ole fence myself.

Wouldn't argue any of those things with you but of course they have nothing to do with the discussion at hand or my post so I'm not sure why you wrote it.

there are rules, I abide by most - does that make me uncivilized because I don't abide by all?

Children now play on the sidewalk. When I was a child, they played on the sidewalk. When my parents were children, they played on the sidewalk. When my grandparent were children, they played on the sidewalk.

The neighborhood association where my sister lives is a little more relaxed than some. But...and that is a big "but"....if and until another association pres comes along it may change. The rules are made before the addition is built, then given over to the community to enforce. One can bich til the cows come home...but it is what it is...if you buy a new home in one of these additions, you know what it is beforehand.
One complaint my sister hass is the neighbor next to her always parks in front of her house. Leaving no place for her own company to park. These houses have very large double driveways, big enough for 6 cars. Or two double cab trucks.
The association pres says he has no problem with them parking in the street. One of the rules in the agenda, but he makes or breaks the rules.
I know there are communities here that will give out a ticket for riding a bike on the sidewalk. I dont know about you, but I do not want my child riding his or her bike in the street.

When we were children...we played in the streets. It was much safer then too. Sidewalks were for big cities in town. Or small town access to the stores and such. We had no sidewalks in my neighborhood. Just green grass and yard. Then there was the playground...the street.lol

When I had a neighborhood association, the neighborhood was able to vote on these issues. Is it that way at your sister's?

In my neighborhood (NYC) the younger kids played on the sidewalks, us older kids played in the streets. Never having to leave the block.

In my home town only rich neighborhoods had nice sidewalks, everyone had broken and jagged sidewalks. Fun for rough bike riding, but not much else.
