here...the state choses the text books for the k-12. and they are VERY strict about what goes in them because of law suits and bad publicity. my aunt taught in Venus, TX and now in Mansfield, TX....they have strict policies....so enderra's argument doesn't hold water as far as I am concerned

nahhhh it was just an excuse to slam a place that they don't know anything about based on preconceived stereotypes that have no relation to reality

Absolutely. Not to mention that even if she were blaming a state that did have such textbooks, there are plenty of alternatives available. If her states textbooks that include religious references or protections it is the fault of her own state, not anyone else's.

Has anyone besides me wondered why Bush chose Texas as a debarkation point for troops going to Iraq?

Does anyone but me realize how much Fed Tax money was funneled to the economy of Texas as a result of this?

Does anyone except me realize what would happen to the Texas economy if the US closed all the military posts in Texas?

Does anyone except me realize what would happen to the Texas economy if the US were to close all the NASA facilities in Texas?

Does anyone except me realize how ridiculous the talk of Texas seceding from the Union really is?

So, then, all the better for the union, if such an unthankful "parasite" state leaves.

I'll tell you a little secret, Fanta:

If Texas leaves, then the government of the remaining USA will pay ANY money that Texas requests, to be able to continue it's NASA, and Military operations. Because, these can only be done in Texas.

Texas does not rely on the union. This is where you are sorely mistaken. The union relies on Texas, as it is incapable of doing what Texas does.

I dont know who whispers these secrets in your ear, but
you need to tune them out!
Name one thing done in Texas that cant be done else where, and explain your whispered opinion!

My Father retired from GE where he worked on a team that was directly attached to Defense and NASA contracts.
Things like the Patriot missile system (one of many missile systems),laser technology, EMP technology, and Communication systems for both SAC and NASA, etc.

I grew up running through underground tunnel systems at Cape Canaveral and here at tracking stations in NC as well as Goddard, and chasing lizards both on the White Sands missile range and at the Los Alamos proving grounds.

I thought this was interesting

http://www.netstate.com/economy/tx_economy.htm

Among the states, Texas is ranked #1 for total livestock and livestock product receipts. It's ranked #2 for total agricultural receipts, behind California.

In terms of revenue generated, Texas's top five agricultural products are beef cattle and calves, cotton, broilers (young chickens), greenhouse and nursery products, and diary products.

it lists things too

You need to be more concerned with data lioke this!

The 2008 State New Economy Index: Benchmarking Economic Transformation in the States

In a report sponsored by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, ITIF employs 29 indicators to assess the extent to which the 50 state economies are structured according to the tenets of the New Economy. The changing economic landscape requires state economies to be innovative, globally-linked, entrepreneurial and dynamic, with an educated workforce and all sectors embracing the use of information technology. The report, which updates and expands on the State New Economy Index reports from 2002 and 2007, ranks the states accordingly. The five states ranking the highest in 2008 are, in order of rank, Massachusetts, Washington, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey. With these measures as a frame of reference, the report outlines the next generation of innovative state-level public policies needed to meet the challenges of the New Economy, improve state competitiveness and boost incomes of all Americans.

Well, you seem to think that there will be no loss to the union if Texas leaves...

Great then. Let them to be FREE.

And let the all-capable union to work for themselves a bit, just to get the taste of how things really earned.

keep in mind as far as federal aid....that we have put into that as well....and with the hurricanes and tornados that have hit us....yes we deserve that money....plus the refugees from LA that did come here...we needed help to help them out. and as far as the borders go...it benefits all the states as well.

I know they are only some of the money and i'm no finicial whiz about the aid and what it goes to...so keep that in mind as well

No I seem to believe their is no chance they will leave.
I also know for a fact that they have no legal authority to leave!

It would be a grave mistake for Texas if they were to try. Both economically and in tragic loss of life.
It would also go against American ideology.
United we stand and divided we fall!

What we need to do, and this is further proof, is to dismantle the entire Republican Party.
We do this, not through violence or illegal moves, but through common sensibilities and placing our votes with alternate party candidates. Moving the Republican Party out of the second party position and elevating another.
They will then crumble and fade away by natural selection!

I have an idea (not saying it is a good one though because I don't know the yackety yak behind it lol) but instead of federal taxes....why can't each state pay state taxes to use on their own state. they can cut a check to their own reps in congress and a portion of the states taxes go to pay the pres and VP

I know they are only some of the money and i'm no finicial whiz about the aid and what it goes to...so keep that in mind as well

SC who is ranked #1 in Fed aid receives $1.65 for every $1.00 their residents pay in Fed Taxes.

Im not sure how that compares with Texas, but Im willing to bet that y'all receive more Fed aid than your residents pay as well!

Plus, The Fed gov is the largest employer in the State of Texas.
Ft. Hood alone contributed over 10 billion dollars to the Texas economy last year!
Your legislators still have to balance a budget with a 10 billion dollar shortfall from what they had to spend last year.

How do you think they will do this?

Cuts in health care?
Cuts in public works?
Cuts in Education?

Those are three possibilities!
Just saying!
