Some lawyers will work on payments with ya. But you get what you pay for. And if you start missing payments, look out!!!

Well, I just heard back from my dad about the situation. I have been disowned. Can't say I blame him though. So there goes any chance of any help paying for a lawyer, not that I was really expecting any in the first place. So does anybody know about a defense lawyer working out a payment plan? Now that really sucks. I blame him, thats wrong, he should be on your side. |

Talk to the public pretender first & see what they say.
Check online for the laws for your state. Like I said earlier depends on what kind of scale it is & what the laws are for GA. if their putting the lil bag & scale together. |

Mate...you 'pop' over briefly to visit a known dealer friend...did you drop off his milk and bread? I suspect not. You have your pot just out there for all to see on the table...how much, by weight was it? Oh that's right, your scales got seized...hmmmm....? Weighing your bread and milk perhaps? Your firearms were seized.....why do you need protection, and from whom? A couple of debtors perhaps? and then a mysterious unmentionable amount of unknown substance was also seized.... and you wonder if you can get off the charges on an illegal entry? LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck with that! It was 10.3 grams all in one bag, definitely not enough to be selling. My firearms are for sport, inanimate target shooting. I don't hunt and I don't need "protection" as I am not in 'debt' to anyone except Sallie Mae, my student loan provider. And I am not a target of any robbers stupid enough to risk their life breaking into my house to get no more than a computer and Playstation. |

So why pray tell... do you play with things that you know, are gonna get you time, if caught?
You had the gear... you got caught.... you may have to do the time. Own it. You got done. I am with your Dad on this one...it was YOUR choice to play with the big dogs...(doin what you know is illegal, drug wise)... ...sometimes having to be responsible for your own sh*t....stinks. |

Ohhh and this is from the Georgia Laws:
Penalties For Marijuana Possession of Less Than an Ounce - Felony or Not In most instances, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana is a misdemeanor. However, it is quite possible to possess less than an ounce and still be guilty of a felony. For example, if you intend to distribute (sell) the marijuana, that would be a felony. Even sharing a joint with a friend could be construed as intent to distribute and bootstrap the charge to a felony offense. Felony Possession of Marijuana If you possess more than an ounce, sell, grow, or intend to distribute any quantity of marijuana, you can go to prison for up to ten years. And don't forget, even a misdemeanor marijuana conviction can result in a driver's license suspension for a minimum period of 6 months with no limited driving permit. |

I wouldn't worry about it much, unless you have priors. Just get a Public Defender and ride it out. I don't think they are gonna mess with you that much for a petty possession charge. If your PD is worth a grain of salt...more than likely that is all you'll be charged with.

I suspect that the mysterious other package that was seized is what will get him done....the focus seems to be on the pot... that's a nothing...the scales and the other little 'baggie' is what he has neglected to mention...to us, substance wise. |

Yeah, if this was his sole reason I would be mad but I have put my parents through a lot previous to this and given them little in return. But hopefully I can get my bachelors degree and a good job and stuff and he will take me back in. |

Regardless what you do you can sit here and listen to all of us that do not know the law in your area. Most of the time the lawyers can on the first offense are charged with simple possession of drugs. If you are one of these individuals, the chances of serving actual prison time is slight. So the best thing for you to do is contact a lawyer within your state that handles these laws and knows the way around it. I don't wish anyone to loose all they have over smoking weed for their own pleasure. Use this site and maybe contact a lawyer it does not normally cost anything for the first contact they will brief you on what can and can not be done. At that time you have a choose what to do most will do a payment plan with you. But you will never know unless you call. Here is a site if I was you I would visit.

Jess your so right it all depends on what actually took place and what they really did find.
Ohhh and the one early that said they can not get you for distribution charges due to you had to have stuff divided out ect... wrong in Georgia if your sharing a joint with a friend that can in fact get you with the intent to distribute. Laws in each state is different. And never use the old saying I did not know that for as far as a judge sees it everyone should in fact know the laws within their own state so that comment will get you no where!! |

I've noticed throughout this entire thread, he's yet to mention or should I say fess up to what the mysterious substance was. Hmmm makes one wonder what he's hidin. That other substance was reportedly a small amount of another drug. Doesn't matter what. Pretty much any other drug besides weed is a felony and that is the least of my charges. The weed is a more serious charge, but still not the worst. The firearms that I legally owned and have never shot anything but targets with are what stands to get me in the most trouble here. |
