We have about 10 more years of depression/recessionary economics. There isn't anything to do but ride it through. Everyone has to cut back a little. Those that are unemployed are going to have to take jobs that pay less. Becoming isolationist is not the solution to the american economy. American grew too high and will fall hard. Not to mention that this is a global recession, so it will be bad for a while.

Its affecting all countries. Import/export businesses. People are being laid off here as well. Have any of you thought of moving to one of the "richer" countries as an option??

Great idea buying American made products. Put me down for a Hummer, bank derivatives, California real estate and one of Jimmy Swaggert's bibles.

Nope. We'll ride it out just like our grandparents did. It's just the way it is. The economy cycles, so we are in a down swing right now.

Welfare, unemployment, and other transfers can only last so long before those systems break.

I think the slack is let out as far as it can go with transfers.

Michigan has extended its unemployment to a year. People have to make some types of sacrifices. If you can go back to work and find a job... do it! Don't sit on unemployment, because someone else might really need it.

People have to pool resources. Barter for services such as exchange of babysitting, car pooling and such.

I have grow a garden before, however, now I live in the city. So I would have to search out an urban group garden. I grew up living off the land, but there isn't much 'land' to live off of anymore. Hunting is poor in some/most areas in Michigan. Fishing is poor too, and sometimes poluted.

Its not a good time right now to be in a recession heading right into a depression.
