Community gardens are a wonderful idea. And you can grow quite a few things on a balcony. When the chips are down, alot of people will have to dig deep into their own resources of what they can do. People helping people. The barter system is a great idea as well.drinker

FYI for those that are reading and not posting. Cherry tomatoes can be grown year round and if taken care of can produce more tomatoes than you can want or eat.

Why do I post articles here?

Because it exposes some who don't look at anything besides FOX and their favorite preacher to information they likely won't see otherwise.

Recessions are part of how they economy adjusts itself.

We will be fine as long as people don't panic, use the time to educate themselves and learn to live within their means.

posting articles is fine...but when every answer to a simple question has to be backed up by pages upon pages of other peoples words it gets frustrating. We, are the people who suffer these things, not the rich people on govt hill writing those articles.

Howbout we try a tax break, like Bush did a few years ago?

But instead of $300 to each person. $300000. Put some money back in. Buy products. Buy houses, cars, get our feet wet. And...I'm sayin EVERYBODY. It's ****in PAPER people. Just hand it out. Why ruin the world with currency?

I just don't get it....

Hmmm... economy.... buy local... and I mean local... if it's made in your town, or comes from your close region.... buy there... the local butcher, baker, candlestick maker.

Go to the local petrol service station.... keep your money in YOUR community.

DON'T buy the crap you don't need.... junk food and alcohol will NOT fix any of your challenges only YOU can.

If you have a mortgage and are struggling...disconnect the bloody pay tv, and all the other crap you dont need... also... go online and see a site called couch surfing... you may find a family or person in the financial poo... who could do with a hand....

it isn't rocket science to return to The Waltons way of life...

Greed Empires will collapse, same as any other empire...

Last I checked about 100% of our necessities are from NATURAL resources. Air, fuel, water, metal, etc...

Why do we need currency (which is made from those), to keep the world going?????

Again.....I just don't get it.

Economics is a joke...

I still don't see the point.

Maybe I'm just retarded....

Boats and planes carry these resources. Metal, plastic, oil, gas, people...etc...

And we need paper (trees, and cotton) for this???

Can you say black market?

Jess642's photo

Gyps... I understand that a lot of stuff is exported, and imported, and you don't get a look in with local produce.... where I live we are next to one of the largest growing region of small crops and sugar cane... Bundaberg.... and here, it is cheaper to buy Albanian sugar... (or maybe it is Nairobian)...than local sugar, from the supermarket... I now buy our sugar direct from the mill, in 25 kilo bags.... for a third of the price per kilo, and divide it amongst a group of other friends who buy bulk.

The amount of food we send to the southern cities from this region is incredible.... but try to buy a first grade tomato locally... not a chance... we get the dregs... the crap they can't sell at the city markets.

So I got cranky, and grew my own.

I know climatically it isn't always possible... I do live in the sub tropics...

I guess the point I'm making is for communities to get fed up... and refuse to buy stuff that isn't made within their own or neighbouring country.

Don't buy black market maple syrup from Romania... noway
