Eljay.....just because this nation has Problems,

like for instance, those trying to take God out of everything now.....

does NOT make this nation any less the nation that was founded on christian principles!!!

We are STILL a christian
nation....
that allows freedom of religion for all.

Cause The SPIRIT of this nation ....

still lives on...
in the heart of MOST of the People here!!

Despite our problems!!!

NOTHING can take that away from the heart of the people here !!!

Let's PRAY for our nation.....

despite all that is happening here.......

cause we are still a GREAT Nation!!drinker

Look at how all the people got together when the towers came down...

look how all the people pulled together when katrina hit...

or when we faced other other major castastrophes...

not only here..but worldwide!!

Thru it all..look how we all helped one another.... and pulled together!!!!

There is HOPE for America....

and America WILL survive....

and the Christian Principles we were founded on...

WILL NOT die.......

cause there is no greater nation to live in...

than a christian nation like the USA...

and people know this!!!

Look at some of the other nations....

would any want to live under religious rule...instead....like is found in some of the other nations?

Of course not.

Let us WAKE up and Pray...

PRAY for our nation...

instead of speaking DEFEAT over our Nation!!

Speaking from experience. The people in Europe are much more friendly and non-judgemental, than americans. Most americans are so selfish and into themselves....even most christians.

Go to a resteraunt in Europe alone. Sit at a table....and I GUARANTEE you someone will eventually sit down with you and talk to you. How often does this happen in the states???? Zero to nil.

The churches there are pretty much all for show, and tourism...but asking around and talking to people there are still MANY christians. They just go with the flow, and pray whenever.

I wouldnt consider america the greatest christian nation.

because of what is happening in our land today....

Eljay is NOT saying that we NEVER WERE a christian nation!!

But I disagree with Eljay.. ..

I STILL see us as a Christian nation...

despite our problems...

cause this nation is still made up of GREAT people...

who will NOT give up on our great country !!!

I wish we as people had stood up to Christianity a long time ago, and never allowed it to run roughshod over everyone else.

Calling the US a Christian nation seems to completely leave out the original inhabitants of the US does it not?

I don't know when Christians decided to have a monopoly on everything but I don't know why we didn't make it very clear to them that they are not the only people on earth.

We are stuck now with a very powerful group of people that are determined to change everything about how our country is ruled. Though they seem to think everyone else is trying to take things away from them, that actually should not have been there in the first place if the US was to govern everyone and not just one group of people. But who gave them the right to have it all to themselves? Very confused by christian attitudes....

Do you realize what you just said? Still made up a great people who will not give up on our country? So you Christians are the only ones that don't give up? I would agree you certainly don't give up trying to monopolize morality and patriotism and the idea of having a theocracy, that's for sure.

Problem to others might be, that Christians are the problem and not the solution. I would say there is still hope for the US as well and only if 'everyone' speaks out, not just Christan's who want everyone to think / believe alike.

I think it's very possible the whole world is a bit tired of the Christians from the US dictating morality to the whole bloody world. It's very convenient that your bible tells you to do just that, makes it difficult to stop you from inflicting your version of morality on the whole of humanity and expecting us all to fall in line.

Not all Americans are unfriendly. And certainly not all of us stuff our beliefs down other throats. Though many of us love to discuss what we have learned about life and such. I seem to remember a day when people were more likely to speak with others more freely, but for some strange reason we have lost that ability, could religion but the cause. I have an idea that it is. Because we can't have a differing opinion with out Christians telling us were evil of or misguided or destroying their notion of what is right.

I assume most Christians see every one as misguided by their words in here.

So what has Bird Wilson's comment on Presidents in the mid 1800's have to do with the Founding Fathers?

Did you not even bother to read Bird Wilson’s comment? Evidently not. I will post it again:

Among all of our Presidents, from Washington downward, not one was a professor of religion, at least not of more than Unitarianism.

"Among ALL of our Presidents, from Washington downward"

He was complaining that we had never had a religious commander in chief from our first president up until the point that he made this comment in the mid 1800s. Is that impossible for you to understand? Why do you think I posted it? huh

I'm waiting for you to name the 27 framers of the Constitution who were Deists. That would be a slight majority.

Why would you require me to do that? I have never once sat here and claimed that there were no Christians who attended the Continental Congress. I have however shown empirically that these 6 men were in fact Deist. They just happen to be the higher profile Founding Fathers that most of us are aware of and if I say their names, people will recognize them.

And you speak of Jefferson and the Constitution.
You are aware that Jefferson is NOT amoung the 55 framers of the Constitution, aren't you. He wasn't even in the country when the document was drafted.

Oh for pete's sake. I never once claimed that Thomas Jefferson was involved with the physical act of writing the Constitution. Although Thomas Jefferson was in France serving as United States minister when the Federal Constitution was written in 1787, he was able to influence the development of the federal government through his correspondence. Later his actions as the first secretary of state, vice president, leader of the first political opposition party, and third president of the United States were crucial in shaping the look of the nation's capital and defining the powers of the Constitution and the nature of the emerging republic. Crack a history book, Eljay. You are embarrassing yourself.

So my comments clearly stand as factual statements. I have NEVER once even exaggerated any of this historical information.

More for Eljay. Yes, there were Christian men among the Founders. Just as Congress removed Thomas Jefferson's words that condemned the practice of slavery in the colonies, they also altered his wording regarding equal rights. His original wording is here in black bold:

"All men are created equal and independent. From that equal creation they derive rights inherent and inalienable."

Congress changed that phrase, increasing its religious overtones:

"All men are created equal. They are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights."

But we are not governed by the Declaration of Independence-- it is a historical document, not a constitutional one. So yeah, there were Christians involved and here is some of their handy work. grumble

Thank you boo2u. This was pretty much my point exactly.

As long as america is being ran by fundamentalist christians...this nation will never prosper and grow. We need more open minded people in office that are not afraid to try new radical ideas ie. legalizing marijuana to help out the economy, trying out socialism to give our citizens free health care and school, etc...

Eljay is NOT saying that we NEVER WERE a christian nation!!

We were NEVER founded as a Christian nation. We have never become a Christian nation. We have had a succession of Christian presidents as a latter part of our historical development as a nation. Do you understand the difference or no?

I can answer the question, no he doesn't, neither does anyone who pushes the cart before the horse.

I believe that is the problem with a lot of people. Many hold an ideal before and above any kind of reason, logic, evidence, or even what is right. Religion gives the rationale to do so from the highest possible authority, and thus it cannot be reasoned with.

It’s very difficult to even become elected President unless you profess to be a Christian or cleverly sidestep the issue. President Kennedy nearly was never elected because he was a Catholic and that threw everyone into a panic thinking the Vatican would be speaking to JFK and giving him orders and making proclamations through him. Its sheer lunacy with these people.

No true Scotsman, only I really believe that there is no true Christians. Its a moving target even for the individual, no one can say what it is, some will say its just belief that jesus was your savior, but that's crap because as soon as some pedophile, or mass murderer claims that belief they reject him.

They all can’t agree with one another anyway. There are more denominations of Christianity then there are religions. huh

And then any time one of them does something horrible, they claim he or she wasn't a real Christian. It’s the "no true Scotsman" fallacy used over and over again to try to avert blame or responsibility for anything.
