As noted, we understand that 6 were Deists. It just so happens that those 6 were the higher profile members of Congress. Some of them were Christians also. I have never argued that point. They were colonists Funches.

"Krisma" just because you believe 6 deist was high profile may in fact played a negative effect who can say ...all I know is that they were all influence by the judeo-christian belief ...for you to believe that their roots had no effects on their brand of god and decision making is illogical

"Krimsa"...there has never been a separate of church and state..it was impossible back then just like it's impossible today ...

again you keep harping on the words and not the actions

I was referring to what you said that 6 deists played high profile roles ..their presence could have in fact presented a negative impact on what was going on ..but either way we can only speculate the role they played and the influence their religious views played in that role

In ancient Babylon, the feast of the Son of Isis (Goddess of Nature) was celebrated on December 25. Raucous partying, gluttonous eating and drinking, and gift-giving were traditions of this feast. Hmmm. laugh

So you like to celebrate Pagan derived rituals huh? I do to. Yum.

And Easter:

"The name "Easter" originated with the names of an ancient Goddess and God. The Venerable Bede, (672-735 CE.) a Christian scholar, first asserted in his book De Ratione Temporum that Easter was named after Eostre (a.k.a. Eastre). She was the Great Mother Goddess of the Saxon people in Northern Europe. Similarly, the "Teutonic dawn goddess of fertility [was] known variously as Ostare, Ostara, Ostern, Eostra, Eostre, Eostur, Eastra, Eastur, Austron and Ausos." 1 Her name was derived from the ancient word for spring: "eastre." Similar Goddesses were known by other names in ancient cultures around the Mediterranean, and were celebrated in the springtime. Some were:

Aphrodite from ancient Cyprus
Ashtoreth from ancient Israel
Astarté from ancient Greece
Demeter from Mycenae
Hathor from ancient Egypt
Ishtar from Assyria
Kali, from India
Ostara a Norse Goddess of fertility."

I think this thread could be answered by showing someone who believes this . . .

I mean why not? People believe a lot of stuff that is rubbish in my mind.

I think it would be great to have someone really take this argument and run with it.

Id be like soooooo, you think the big bang is something to be worshiped?

Do you think that if you pray hard enough to the big bang then you will get a pay raise?

What about penance? Do you have to toss cash into micro black holes as a tithe?

Is it necessary Every year to celebrate the big bangs birth day?

What would it mean to worship something like a singularity?

once again "Bushidobillyclub" you are off the concept of the original post ...I said that people treat the "One Singularity as a substitute for god in order to replace the one they had before they turned to science...not that they pray to it but to make then content

Ok, so if you don't pray to it, you don't acknowledge some kind of consciousness, it didn't create us in any kind of directed way.

Then is this really something that fills the same niche?

I really don't think so.

Does having knowledge make one feel better . .. I THINK so.

Does that directly relate to religion? . . no I don't think so.

Does religion make people feel like they have knowledge? . . . yes.

"Bushidobillyclub" ..you are equating knowledge with consciousness ...it doesn't take consciousness for a rock to one day fall off a cliff ..so why would the big bang need consciousness to take place

also of course believers in the big bang have to believe that is what created them

I never argued that point funches, just letting you know that these holidays (actually there are others as well) were assimilated and absorbed by the Christians. Halloween however is based in an ancient Celtic Pagan ritual and actually remains as such. I mean it hasnt been "adopted" as of yet.
