I can't imagine that the 513,000 in foster care could even equate to the following.

WORLDWIDE

Number of abortions per year: Approximately 42 Million

Number of abortions per day: Approximately 3,700

Why women have abortions
1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest; 6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child, and 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons (i.e. the child is unwanted or inconvenient).

Did you note that 93% because the child is unwanted or INCONVENIENT.

At what gestational ages are abortions performed:
52% of all abortions occur before the 9th week of pregnancy, 25% happen between the 9th & 10th week, 12% happen between the 11th and 12th week, 6% happen between the 13th & 15th week, 4% happen between the 16th & 20th week, and 1% of all abortions (16,450/yr.) happen after the 20th week of
pregnancy.

This is why this is a big deal to me....victim of rape got pregnant had an abortion....reason then was only because it was a crime that was so violent and I could not imagine looking at that baby every day and not being able to think about the violence. Do I regret the decision now.....You bet your sweet bippy I do. I was young and I was not given the options to do anything else. I work with a pregnancy clinic called Avenue....This women do get options...They get to see a 3-d picture of the baby that you call not a life.....

Babies are life at conception. I have actually walked out of church services when it was dealing with abortion...my thought then.....How can this man tell me...he has never walked in my shoes...he has no clue. But then working with Avenues and girls that are going through this....I do see....I can tell you right now....if I was raped again...I would have a completely different decision on what would happen to this lil life.

Again I think anyone that spreads their legs and is old enough for sex, by golly better be old enough to deal with the consequences of spreading their legs.

And I agree totally that an abortion doesn't make you unpregnant it makes you the mother of a dead baby...

mother of a dead baby?????????very judgemental theresmokin

Deb just so you know.. birth control while they say it is 99.9% effective sometimes its not..

I had my tubes tied, and was on the Depo shot for other reasons and got the gift of baby number 6...

Leaving now before I say something I regret

Yikes!

The issue that occurs with ALL mammals is that our bodies are designed to conceive. So when you are using a form of birth control, it will greatly reduce the incidence of conception but the reason very often that it is not 100% effective is that the body is actually in conflict with it. It wants you pregnant! That insures survival of the species. Its like that line from "Jurassic Park."

"Life finds a way." laugh

I know sweets....but that 99.9% is way better then not using it at all....which back in the 70's when I had mine...These ladies used abortion as birth control.....That is what was so wrong......

Feral that is not the case. Its never been used as a practical method of birth control. Its expensive. That would not have changed from the 70s until the current day. Please provide the evidence to support that assertion.I would require some form of documentation of this phenomena.

What evidence would you like...It happened to me personally....I asked the nurse....she told me. I don't think after 30 years that I would be able to locate the nurse to give you the proof you seek. But I will tell you at the time...I thought OMG how hard is this for me...and they can do this more then once......

I can give you no statistics only anecdotal stories. But I know of one woman, who is and was a very good friend of mine, who used abortion as a form of birth control. It was far easier to obtain than birth control and if you're a high school or college student as we were in the 80's, it was relatively cheap.

I certainly hope things have changed but then, it wasn't so uncommon.

But, I'm not here to talk about statistics, I'm here to talk about the human aspect, which so many tend to forget. Before we get bogged down in statistics and rhetoric, let's think about the women and what they are going through to even consider such a drastic and irreversible remedy? What can we as people do so that this choice never has to be made and all this silly argument is a thing of the past? Cause right or wrong, abortion is not the cause but the effect.

Well said and I agree that documented evidence to support that "argument" in particular is impossible. Im sure in the history of the planet there has been a woman who allowed herself to become pregnant over and over again but more than likley, she had the children.

I agree with your statment and this is why I am pro-choice.

Well, that's not exactly what I said or meant, but as I said, I'm not here to argue. I do think that using abortion as a form of birth control is much higher than you think, though. You are lucky if you've never come across in it in your experience but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist or that it only existed in one woman throughout the course of history.
