Gaze Upon Giza
|
|
Furrowed inside of planes,
in sight of plain barren grains of khaki stained terrain... palm fronds sweep the dunes edge. From outcropped limestone ledge below Ra's photon blaze, arid eyes may gaze a lions body with a mans head. Pharaoh's mummy dead, no goatee wrapped with lace on Sphinx cobra hooded face, no trace of his broken nose. On the plateau rose the tablet Rosetta stone, a key to language clone dusty tales covered in mold. Khufu's cap of gold once atop his pyramid tomb, above polished granite rooms, it's said this pinnacle did perch. Egyptologist's still search sifting metric tons of sand, for millennia this land calls out to sky and man. |

Gallows stood,
America teetered on the brink. A swinging noose hung to snap the neck of the Veep. Lathered into minions by lies and spittle, coup coup caws, cuckoo madman. Flocking from coops or Coupe DeVille's, dodo's scratched and scuffled clawing into the hill. Bird-brained maneuver brain dead scheme, walls smeared with feces, zombies going extinct. Citizens turned mobsters all-the-while the Don gloats. Flagpoles as weapons, intruder shot in the throat. The cuckoo madman's coup campaign failed. He's out golfing his dodo's are in jail. |

I find myself remembering turquoise plastic pools
and shower curtains spread over bahia grass. Barefoot and bare chest, soaked jean cutoffs wrung out on the run up. Powder blue above a tin roof and grapefruit trees, brassy sun split into beams by rain puffed clouds. Spitting out watermelon seeds machine gun style. Leapt into a belly flop skidding over bumps and divots filled with city water stinking of chlorine, abruptly stopped by the muddy turf beyond. Goosebumps rise as chilly droplets begin falling from the sagging gray above. Cumulus bottom collapses into a puddling downpour stinking of ozone. Sweltering days cooled by sunny showers. I relish those bygone summers. |

The pale frown
of this porcelain mask is next to fire in a thespians cold kiln. An actor bearing no striking match. A fun house reflection jailed between walls within the mirror. This sideshow spoken in tongues upstaged by the man quietly talking with his hands. The pop of that whipping white flag clips the loudspeakers amplitude while failing to smother my keystroke punches. Take that weak font face and move. That type no longer suits me! |

Two feet ahead
toe to ankle in line, just twenty four inches... plus or minus point nine. My arm outstretched sans a measuring tape, zero air space between no gap or gape. Size thirteen's crushing a clod, leaving prints sole deep bending over the sod. Dirt from the roots caked in cross hatch treads. Thirsty mosquito's swarm 'round my head. Holding still in a garden gnome pose pant leg is wet from the split leaking hose. Two feet ahead an upturned rakes tines twenty four more inches toe to ankle in line. |

Star glitter charges the air
pelting my corona as I soar through the Pegasus's turbulence... wing thrusts of the airborne steed flinging meteor chips over me. As the griffin swoops past Orion's belt above, Poseidon thrusts his trident through the gargantuan squid's tentacle beneath the Caspian sea. Medusa's serpent dread's are in a frenzied whip as she wallops me with her flaming scepter. Hercules chariot now racing me from Pompeii as the volcano erupts, filling the streets with molten lava and blanketing the sky with smoke and ash. |
