So, anyway, wasn't there a Florida meet suggested?? Seems Tampa area was frequently mentioned...or how about Lakeland, more central to the state...

Were you a socialite? Went to all the school activities? Really popular in school?

No. I was popular amongst those who thought they could use me...until they found out I wouldn't help them...cheat, do their homework for them, whatever.

Heh heh...you're tall compared to one woman I dated. She wore capris so that the length was right for her...because regular slacks would have been too long!

Hello there, May I dare to say that needing to be rescued so to speak, apllies to both male and females. It seems when some guys find out that I own my own home and acerage, that they are ready to move in, and set up house. U know rent free. I am a single mom and I work 2 jobs to take care of my kids. Their deadbeat dad doesnt think he needs to help. So there, u go my friend. Neediness, is equal opportunity.

If I don't want to own my own home, why would I want someone who does already? I'm very NON-materialistic.

I won't deny that it's possible...after all, I've never met Marilyn Mach Mos Savant. Yet, if she were that intelligent, she wouldn't approach me in the first place.

You know what they say about the intellectually gifted? We have very poor social skills.

I don't see the problem--their intelligence level really doesn't enter into it. They're not going to be as smart as I am, so why should I worry about it?

If someone is patting you on the back, look to their other hand for a knife.

I don't wear cologne...so it's a waste of money to buy that as a gift for me.

Me. Because it would make the world better for ME, anyway.

And I doubt anyone would miss me. Except maybe work...

Public Animal...

I'm not setting my standards high...I don't EXPECT that they'll have an iota of intelligence.

Yeah...that's why I'm so single. I generally wait for the woman to come to me and express interest in me, first. I find it very hard to make a "deep" personal connection with someone else, keep my guard up.

It's the ones that come over to me that I talk with and get to know.

Censorship in and of itself is a violation of our right to freedom of speech! Nothing should be censored...AT ALL!

grow up. plain and simple, grow up.

You ahve the freedom of speach yes. You do NOT however have the freedom to abuse and offend other people.

No one has the right to NOT be offended. I find cars offensive. They still exist. I don't need exhaust fumes in my face while I walk a few blocks to work...but there it is. I don't have the right NOT to be offended. I can either deal with it, or work to change it....avoid it, if at all possible.

As far as kids, if I had kids I'd swear around them about as much as my parents swore around me. I wouldn't censor myself.

^^I NEVER expect to find a woman at a bar...because I'm not interested in "drunk chicks".

EDIT: At the bar I go and sing at, I have met women who at least TRY to beat me at the NTN trivia games...even if they ARE unsuccessful. End EDIT.

Even when I was going to college...and was ten years older than many of the women going there...I couldn't find women with the practical or even book-based intelligence I had. I did go out with one of them...because she approached ME, said she was impressed by my intelligence.

However, I wasn't impressed with hers...or her lack of taste:tongue: ...but what more to expect out of someone just out of high school?

Does it seem to anyone else that even though women SAY they're equal to guys...that they still want a guy who approaches THEM instead of the other way around?

Approach, approach--we don't bite (unless you're into that sort of thing...) If I'm sitting alone at a table, you actually ARE welcome to come talk with me...or play me a game of pool...or ask me about my tastes in music.

We would talk daily...regardless of whether the other person was actually listening. I don't share things with close friends, my significant other is the person I would share things with--no one else.

SOng for a River, Badlees

he was the king of the back seat
of drunk reverie
saw him escorted out of a Mets game
on network TV
kept his head in the clouds
with any cheap high he could cull
in his cancered Impala
and his hog shirts
and his head tapes played dull

he lived in a company house
in the Pardeesville woods
with a stir crazy dog
and a graveyard of old "jimmy" hoods
Sundays we'd run for his stash
at the New York state line
that summer when moments of
circumstance altered like wine

(chorus)
this is for the man
this is for the days that we killed
was it my wind of change
or just a breeze at the top of the hill
he didn't talk the gold ring
he just schemed for a skeleton key
but when you think you met thunder
you only see what your head wants to see

he threw back-mountain parties
five deep at the "well"
with his girlfriend, Louise, who'd get lit
and tell us all "go to hell"
then he'd get liquored up
and throw me his keys and yell "drive"
with him and Louise in the back
doin' "American Pie"

he'd talk of out west over beer
and the garbage that we ate
'bout the punk band he'd managed
in Phoenix in '78
i was this kid of sixteen the enamored
impressionable kind
in the poetic pull of the passion
of life with the lines

(chorus)

he just disappeared that mid-august
not even a shout
then I read in the news that September
that his time had run out
how he tried to outrun a state trooper
down 93 South
a charge of possession is why he fled
said word of mouth
the paper said nothin' was left
but the seats and the frame
and I read in the write-up
for the first time his real name;
birthplace unknown, not from nowhere
no close family
just a wild running river
that cut it too fast to the sea

I still raise a glass once a year
on the night that he died
though hindsight says
he only let me believe that we'd ride
Lord, he still taps a vein in my mind
like a summer rain cools
long after that river ran dry
and reality ruled

(chorus 2x)

From the Badlees
River Songs

You've got a right to be angry
You've got a right to complain
But just being right
Ain't gonna change anything
You want understanding
Without saying a word
You want admiration
Even though it's undeserved
It ain't no secret
Time took it's toll
I can't believe it
We're gettin' old
One of us should stand up
One of us should scream
One of us should step out
And say just what he means
One of us should say
Just what it is we're fighting for
But no one says nothing much
Of anything no more
We all have defenses
And opinions to sell
We all have our methods
Of defending ourselves
But there's nothing as lifeless
As a tree that don't bend
There's nothing as worthless
As a fair weathered friend
It ain't no secret
Time took it's toll
I can't believe it
We're gettin' old
One of us should get up
One of us should say
One of us should get out
Of the other one's way
One of us should face up
To what no one can ignore
But no one does nothing much
Of anything no more
I am he as you are he
As you are me, but we just disagree
Now I ain't anything
And it's a world full of anger
It's a world full of pain
It's a world full of people
Lookin' for someone else to blame
But it don't make no difference
If it don't make no sense
'Cause the world goes on a changing
With or without our consent
It ain't no secret
Time took it's toll
I can't believe it
We're gettin' old
If one of us was angry
If one of us was sad
If one of us was guilty
It might not be that bad
If one of us was anything
We might know something more
But no one is nothing much
Of anything no more

One of my matches, at least,

was local
within my age range

I wrote her, she wrote me. I wrote a second time, not heard a reply.
