I also don’t think (actually I know) that the “N” word isn’t always used in a derogatory way. It depends on who’s saying it and the context in which it’s being used. Personally, I don’t use it but I won’t be a hypocrite and say that I haven’t laughed when its been used comedically or in some films.

CR actually gives a really good example of who and the type of people he classifies as “N’s” – can’t remember which one of his performances and it’s too early to phone my son to find out - Might be Kill the Messenger.

He's a comedian plain and simple and if you've ever watched any of his 'live' shows - thanks to my son, I've watched quite a few, he actually bashes black (African American) people more than white in his routines.

I just play it by ear. I run a mile from anyone that calls me "dear" or "my love" and pretty much take it as authentic if I get called "babe" pretty commonplace to be called that by people that don't know each other in parts of London despite the fact I find it annoying .
