there are many addictions that most people don't think about. eating disorders are addictions as well
"

You are so right my friend and I would say that a eating disorder is more trickier because a person has got to eat thefore cannot abstain completly where a alcoholic or a addict just has to avoid the first one. Please continue to post and I for one hope you get the help that you or someone you know needs. Take special care because you are special.

I thought drugs and alcohol was the best thing that ever happened to me,till they turned to the worse things that happened to me,took till I was 42 and Homless to find recovery, and the last 10 years have been the best of my life, the combination was simple,go to lots of meetings, find one you like the best and make it your homegroup,(the meeting you never miss),get a service position,(like coffee maker),find someone of the same sex as you that has gone through the 12 steps and ask hinm or her to guide you through them, then when your done show others how to go through the steps,I'm a miracle and I see miracles everyday...
"

Hey my friend I really enjoyed what you had to say I to have seen many miracles in the program. Thanks for sharing and I hope you will continue to post here as I personally get alot out of it. Well talk with you again and remember "Take it Easy".happy

Hey Trout:

Glad you are having fun at your meetings because thats what its all about isn,t it to enjoy life on lifes terms. I have gotten so much out of your posts I just wanted to thank-you.

I am learning that even when **** happens it does not have to be a huge crisis and to harbour resentments. Things are lets say challenging right now in my life but hey I am up for it but clean and sober first. Well Trout have a great day or night or hey even both lol and will talk soon.laugh

Since this is the Religion Chat forum, I wanted to share these common symptoms of Religious Addiction:

* Inability or unwillingness to doubt, or question religious doctrine, teaching or authority
* View of controversial issues as "black-and-white", good or bad; inability to perform rational analysis without applying a perspective based on religious beliefs.
* Feelings of inferiority or inadequacy while comparing yourself to prominent religious figures
* Magical thinking that God will fix you/ do it all, without serious work on your part
* Rigid, obsessive adherence to rules, codes of ethics, or religious guidelines
* Uncompromising judgmental attitudes: readiness to find fault or evil in anything that does not agree with your interpretive views
* Compulsive or obsessive praying, going to church, revivals or crusades, quoting scriptures, frequent calling on God in everyday life
* Unrealistic financial contributions to religious organizations or charities
* Belief that sex is dirty, or that our bodies or physical pleasures are evil
* Compulsive overeating and/or excessive fasting; self-flagellation, excessive self-imposed "penitence"
* Overly critical and in conflict with and argumentative regarding science, medicine, and/or secular education
* Progressive detachment from reality; isolation and breakdown of relationships not affiliated with your religion.
* Psychosomatic illnesses (back pains, sleeplessness, headaches, hypertension) which abate after "prayer".
* Manipulating scripture or texts, feeling specially chosen, claiming to receive special messages from God and/or to possess a unique understanding of scripture
* Maintaining a religious "high", trance-like state, keeping a happy face (or the belief that one should...)
* Attitude of righteousness or superiority: "we believers versus the world," including the denial of one's human condition.
* Confusion, great doubts, mental, physical or emotional breakdown, frustration with those who do not share your beliefs.

These are only a few of the warning signs.
If you recognize any one of these behaviors in yourself, please seek help immediately.

Hi bud actually when it comes to a tweve step program it is more spiritual in nature than anything else. It is a God of our own individual understanding. You see religon is for people who are afraid of going to hell: Where spirituality is for people who have already been there.

Hi Winx I am still here however I have had a crisis where I use to live at the carehome. My friend whom I was helping there relapsed back into active addiction again and stepped over my boundries which I had layed out so I had no choice but to leave so now Im staying at a friends house till I find my own place. My friend here has over 14 years of sobriety so I am safe in this aspect. And to top all this I have been working pretty much everyday so I have alot on my plate. You see the only gaureentee of not drinking is that one will be sober to deal with their problems. I love this thread and will never abandon it because sometimes this is my lifeline. Have a great day or evening everyone:wink:

"the only huiman that has that power to relieve your alcoholism is yourself

I have a feeling someone else or a whole gang of folks have already spanked you for this statement but....

Sure, the only human that has the power to make one quit drinking or doing drugs is the addict. However, a lot of addicts feel the need to subject themselves to a higher power. Who cares what you believe or why you believe it? If belief in a god/higher power works for that individual then that's what it takes.

This might be bad for my appearance (on my online profile, that is) but I'm what you'd call a binge drinker. My drinking doesn't affect (or dictate) my work or social life but, when I drink, I really drink. Thought about giving it up many times but it's not happened. Don't want it to happen. I love the many different beers available too much to give it up. So I know how hard it can be to give up something you "love".

Good luck to the OP and anyone else dealing with addiction and congrats to those who have been able to shake the monkey.
"

Thanks for stopping by David and for your input. Theres alot of people who love to drink and when they do they drink hard we call them here in Canada two fisted drinkes and it does not mean that they are alcoholic.

There is however another saying which is anyone can jump on the garbadge truck, but they do not have to ride it all the way to the dump.

You and only you will no when you have crossed the line into alcoholic drinking and my wish is that you do not have to suffer as I did.

You really sound like a nice guy and I hope to hear from you again. Take special care my friend.

Step Four.

Made a Searching and Fearless Moral Inventory of Ourselves.

This is a humbling step as we have to take stock in all the things we have done in our lives and what part of our lives it has affected.

This includes everything including sex stuff, thefts, anger issues ect. ect.

It says in this step to be fearless and we should be because we will get out of this what we put into this step.

I would welcome any input concerning this step from anyone including your fears about doing it.

But the bible also tells us if we are living in sin he does not hear our prayers.
And if your not married and your sleeping with this girl you are living in sin, and your prayers will not be heard
"

Boy my friend I have always believed in God but what I did not realize that He was you. Gods love is unconditional and we all have sinned and fell short of the gloy of God. he even sent his holy prophet to talk with king david right after he committed first degree murder so for you to say that God will not answer this young mans prayers suggests that you know Gods plan for this man. I feel that nobody has that right to say what God will or will not do. no offense.
