Ok, I think I've spotted where I bogged down in the discussion about grief vis-a-vis evolution. The main argumet for it is that is has survival value through "bringing people closer together". But as I stated a few times, I have never observed it actually doing that. In my experience, it actually has the opposite effect. This is a little strange – replying to my own post. But I wanted to add something and didn’t want two different posts to be separated by a lot of other discussion that might dilute the connection. I can see this scenario… All emotions are grounds for “bringing people together” by the simple fact of being something they have in common. Thus the whole range of emotions has some survival value in that respect. However, that doesn’t answer the question of how so many different one’s evolved and why they are so diverse – especially the one’s that are so obviously contra-survival on an individual basis. Maybe an answer for the diversity is that Nature likes to be balanced. almost everything has it's opposites and maybe emotions stem from that, you can't have one without the other? |

Rights to life.

What is the difference between a cow and a man. What makes it right for a man to eat a cow, but makes it wrong for a cow to eat a man? How do we determine if a being deserves a right to life? What makes humans responsible for anything, themselves, others? Why do dogs have rights in America? Why do cats? Why not squirrels? If we discovered aliens on Neptune that where essentially a multi cellular puddle would humanity care if it where intelligent? How intelligent would it have to be to have a right to life? How intelligent to be responsible for Neptune, and its sovereignty? Would they need to be powerful to be respected, wise, knowledgeable? What characteristics determine these rights? If your response is god, then please let me know how he decides. But the cow can't tell us why it is doing these things, we think that the cow doesn't know why either and we label this "instinct". So we feel in the end that it is just an animal, driven on by its DNA set to survive and propogate. And the cow WANTS to do these things, still it can not "rise above" these basic drives. Also, a cow can't comprehend the structure of light, but on some level it understands light. So what makes it right for a man to eat a cow? Well, they're good toe eat , we and all lifeforms on Earth need to consume. The cows get the water and grass and grains we supply them, they get the medicines that we give them so they're healthy and we get the cows. So basically, we need to eat and in the end, the cow really doesn't care that you are feeding it just to eat it, it is simply happy that IT has something to eat. Do we have a right to do this? A shockingly simple answer: Who's gonna stop us, in the thousands of years that we have bred cattle, who has ever stopped us? We have the right to eat them simply because we CAN. And what makes it wrong for a cow to eat a man? HEY, cows aren't supposed to be thinking about that kind of stuff!! |

A snow covered life
Soemthing you want to avoid, Shine a light on strife! I see a wrong turn: After I left so annoyed, You see, I still yearn.... Heartbeat,Heartbeat...Stop! Need to see you, be adjoined Heartbeat,Heartbeat...Stop! I can see Hope's ray: When I left, you got annoyed, Followed me like prey A sun grew inside, You I will never avoid, First kiss, "You are mine. " |

She sings like An angel Her voice Colors pastels She’s held Together with Ribbons And bows She’s as fragile as Can be And as tough as She needs Where she Comes from Nobody Knows But, She came At the right time To get me, In my mind She’s a woman Of the finest Design She walks like A lady Sometimes talks Like a baby She’s a diamond Just waiting To shine She floats like A feather In the calmest Of weather So lightly She falls To my bed My fingers Work pages Familiar phrases Of a novel I’ve already Read I’ve loved you Forever Now I know you It’s better Than I could Have ever Possibly dreamed You may not Have been right For the others In your life But, you’re Perfectly Perfect For me kc09 still playing with the form on this one...who knows??? |

Air - East Fire - South Water- West Earth- North Four aspects of life. All four are on Native American Medicine wheels in varying placements With varying names and associated colors. One in particular, I am drawn to: Air - Wind in my perception. What is it about wind I can so relate to? She can be: Challenging Comforting Wild or mild And sometimes, Downright pushy. I’m a cancer. You’d think I’d be drawn To sand and water. Nope, I can respect and be grateful To and for the other elements, But without the wind, I deflate. |

I know you're out there I can hear your whisper I can hear your cries I can feel your love I know you're out there Somewhere in this vast world You wait for me My souls other half The next beat of my heart My love, my mate I know you're out there Just waiting for the fates To bring us together So we may no longer hunger So we may no longer hurt So we may no longer be alone Until that time Know this I too am waiting for you..... |

A wind of dead leaves
corroded shutter banging, slacking under the eaves What I wouldn't give, just to explore, be able to breathe pick almost anywhere you want to live should it always be locked against any banal door? Winds of dead dreams complacent shudder, hanging around, nothing up your sleeve What should I give, just to be left alone..... What should I sieze, is it that simple to care? so many ways to just "live" It always seems to be bleeding into something scared What happened to knowing what you deem Should I utter confessions of scamming, how I made others curse & scream What I might give, just to rend and resew, is that any way to live? but it seems to me I know my way out of the snare It seems to me I can't continue this insipid boil A wind of dead purpose & feelings I shudder at aging, stifling under the scope of what might be What I would give, just to ease into another coil. |

Where do emotions come from? I heard they hide in little hobbit holes. |
|
|
|
I don't know if this has been posted before, but I am curious as to others views about this question. Do emotions come from biochemical reactions in the body? Do emotions come from a "radiation of spirit"? Or is it a combination of both? Or none of these? from the amigdala of course! where the hell did you go to school man! |
