Unless a person is admitting they are a danger to themselves or another at the moment of the evaluation, there is nothing they can do.

The courts can order a sexual predator evaluation, but even that does not help a whole lot. There are a few states in the US that have Civil Committment laws, but that issue is debatable as to its constitutionality.

just out of curiosity

where are they supposed to live

just because one commits a crime against another

does not mean they would do so to you

there is no justifiable excuse to commit a violent crime

but in their mind it may have been a vengience thing

i hear all the time rape is more

a power issue than a sexual issue

if they have no reason to have power over you

then the chances they would rape you

would go down wouldn't they

----------

disclaimer

i am a guy (altho handicapped and a possible target to violent crime )

i can not understand the rape issue from the female outlook

i can only relate by what i have been exposed to

we had a guy live round the corner from us , released from pyschiatric ward, was on meds, he didnt take them once , ended up roaming our street half dressed, he stroked mt sons head before i could get him in, told another young boy he was going to heaven soon and another young boy what it feels like to have your head taken off, i had a right go at him and a neighbour beat the cr*p out of him before the police took him away, but he got released because of his mental health, luckly he died set fire to his flat, but how could they release him, he obviously had a thing for little boys..i was furious

Their cops, not psychologists. When it comes down to an issue like that there is usually nothing that can be done by the court due too the mental health of the individual, a psych exam can be requested by the public in some places look into your options.
hes gone now but it was a bit upsetting , and my sons fine but it goes to show and yeh i know the cops couldnt do anything they were furious that they couldnt do anything, though they were good in that they didnt ask any questions why he was hurt

The more the issue comes up the more attention is payed to it, therefore in the best of circumstances the issue gets dealt with in a manner of interest to the public. However, if no one brings the issue up it will stay an issue until someone does.

if a person, as a fetish to rape someone etc, if they keep it in there head, and DONT act it out, then fair enough. dont get me wrong its still sick they have this fetish,or think these things but if he/she doesnt act it out no ones hurt. also it doesnt harm anyone, what someone else is thinking in there head, even though it maybe sick. if they keep it in there head, and DONT act it out, then were all safe, even though what there thinking is sick. we cant control peoples thoughts no matter how sick they are, we can only control what happens to them if they do act it out.

when people have done their time then they have the right to live a quiet life.Pedophiles and violent rapists should be given life sentences.Since they are not,the sex offenders list should be for them not some teen or someone who flashed their privates at a bus.
I think the lists original purpose has been lost and thats to inform people when someone to worry about moves in.
On the other hand supposedly civilized people have used the knowledge to commit violent acts themselves against an offender so who's the animal then.
I don't care if they live nearby as long as I know where they are IF they have committed a pedophile or violent rape.
I don't give a damn if 2 teens screwed each other or about some drunk dude who mooned a cop.

to me, i dont know how anyone can pick how much time they deserve to spend in prison after commiting a crime. if someones raped it can take them a life time to get over it, or they may never ever get over it, so how is 10 years justice?? when youve took away someones whole life.

you cant always choose to heal quickly, no matter what you do.

and if someone molested a little boy, when he gets a bit older, it could screw is head up so much he kills himself, to me no matter how much time the criminal did in jail, would never be enough justice. 10 years in jail isnt enough justice, when youve took away someones whole life.

yes it is a choice, im just saying for some people it takes longer to find happiness again, than other people. some can get over things quicker than others.

i'm sorry, debbie...but i refuse to have the "victim mentality". i'm not a victim, period. i'm a person who happened to be in a bad situation a time or three.

there's a point where you have to just...grab a hold of your future and go for it; to choose to move forward. a point where you realize that even though bad things have happened, you can make GOOD things happen, as well. a choice to focus on more positive areas and head in those directions...

many kids who have been molested end up productive adults who lead fruitful and happy lives. it doesn't have to be a death sentence.

like ive just said lori, when things happen, some people can find happiness again quicker than others. as long as we find it, thats all that matters.

I have a registered sex offender that lives on my block. My other neighbor just opened a day care in her house. Less then a mile away there is another day care and we live by a school. Aren't there some kinda of restrictions against a sex offender being by day cares and schools?

Only by schools, not by day cares.

In regards to people that have been victimized, I say that choosing not to heal is choosing to give that person power over me. Power that they do not deserve and did not earn. JMO.
