I apologize for stirring up a mess :(

I didn't mean for attacks on religion to be made. I just had an honest question. Yes I have read the bible, as a matter of fact I have it sitting right next to me.

Mind you I am not religious but I do keep an open mind about this topic. Someone pointed out earlier that dinosaur fossils have been found which predate human fossils.

I am not, by any means, trying to disprove religion, I really couldn't find anything in the bible on dinosaurs. I have other questions but i'm too afraid to ask them lol. I don't want to upset the people that have faith.

Don't worry about it. Abra and Funches just like trying to stir up trouble. They usually end up making incredibly stupid statements like you see in this thread. Notice that Funches is rejected public facts about the ararat Anomaly. Notice that are resident "Biblical scholar" Abra didn't know the difference between Leviathan and Behemoth in Job. I really enjoy debating with these guys, it lets me know what the Big Bad Wolf felt like when he blew down the house of straw. laugh

I would never describe abra as "stupid" and neither none of his posts. There is great intelligence there. Funches is hilarious and I don't know that I would describe him as stupid either. Who here seems to have "something to prove"?

Don't be afraid to ask questions.

I apologize for jumping into your thread, but I had to respond to Spider's outrageous claim that the bible supports dinosaurs.

It doesn’t. Unless you believe that the reference to the fire-breathing dragon in Job is a reference to dinosaurs as Spider claims.

I’m not longer a believe in the Bible, but I once was a ‘believer’, although I put that in quotes, because I was never a ‘verbatim fundamentalist’. I believed in the Bible as a religious doctrine that gave spiritual lessons in parables. I believed that it was divinely inspired.

I no longer believe that. However, I can say that there is no reference of dinosaurs in the Bible. At least none that I’ve ever seen supported by reputable theologians. I’m sure you can find a lot of crackpot sites on the web that will claim anything you can imagine.

However, I will say that if you are willing to give the Bible a bit of leeway and don’t demand a literal interpretation (i.e. a 6-day-creation, etc), then there is no reason not to believe in both the Bible and dinosaurs. The Bible doesn’t denounce dinosaurs, it just doesn’t mention them. So you can believe in both without necessarily seeing a conflict. At least not an immediate or apparent one anyway.

In fact, there are a lot of Christians who believe in evolution. They actually believe that we did indeed arise from lower animals and this was simply the process with which God created us from ‘dust’.

They believe that where the Bible says that God breathed life into the nostrils of Adam that actually meant that there was a point when God gave man his ‘spirit’.

So in other words, our bodies are ‘evolved animals’, but our spirits came directly from God separately and only after our bodies had evolved to this stage. This is a much more abstract view of the Bible but easily allows the real world evidence that we see, whilst maintaining the biblical story.

This story then holds that man is the only animal on earth that has a ‘divine’ spirit. I personally don’t believe that, but then I’m not a Christian. Christians (for the most part) believe that only man has a divine spirit, and all other animals are just empty biological robots (i.e. they have no divine spirit). Although, they would probably object to my terminology here.

I have other questions but i'm too afraid to ask them lol. I don't want to upset the people that have faith.

Ask away. Just ignore any apparent ‘blood baths’ that appear to be occurring before your eyes. They aren’t nearly as serious as they appear. We’ve been at this for months.

There isn’t any hostility here. It just appears that way to the untrained eye.

So ask away, it’s your thread! drinker

Let's see...You are denying evidence that an anomaly exists on Mount Ararat, supplied by the CIA.

well Spidercmb..can't a big old rock be classified as an anomaly?

You are denying the existance of the many expeditions that have attempted to reach the ararat Anomaly, even though they are documented.

so all the mountains tops in the world have been reached but this one

Then you suggest that if Noah's Ark existed, the Catholic church would go to war for it. The Catholic church doesn't have an army, so that's impossible.

onwards christian soldiers marching as to war...with the cross of Jesus..going on before ...thank you thank you very much I'm here at midnight

Most Christians don't have a strong desire or interest in finding out.

a religious belief can only be claimed as truth because you do not know and don't want to know or question

I'm not perturbed that you don't agree with me,

oh so do that mean that you also call people that agree with you trolls like you just called me or is it that you calling me a troll is a sign that you may be "perturbed" with me

but I am somewhat disturbed by your total rejection of reality.

right first you said it was a boat-like structure now you are calling it an anomly ...maybe the CIA will zero-in one of those spy satellites on it

Dude, I already said it might not be the Ark. I honestly doubt that it is. Read my posts, it will save you some trouble. The anomaly exists, it might be a freaking rock, but it exists. No expedition has reached the anomaly, doubt all you want, it just makes me laugh. laugh

I have an honest question for religious people

Foliel,

I would just like to make a few comments if I may since you are relatively new to posting here.

Welcome, by the way. flowerforyou

There are many differnet views of Christianity. We often see Christians debating issues between themselves. Which is good, and the way things should be.

Spidercmb is our resident ‘verbatim fundamentalist’. He insists on a verbatim approach to the bible and will glad you give you the only acceptable interpretations on earth.

If you wait long enough sometimes the meeker Christians will post unobtrusive views. But its hard for them to get a word in edge-wise with Spider proclaiming that he is the Biblical authoritarian of the UNIVERSE! laugh

He will probably deny this in words, but unfortunately he will not deny it via his actions.

In any case, there are Christians who do not take such a verbatim approach to the Bible. They see the Bible more as a source of spirituality than as a source of indisputable verbatim scientific facts.

As you saw in this thread already, any attempt to try to do that leads to things such as a need to believe in fire-breathing dragons. Most Christians do not believe in fire-breathing dragons.

Most Christians aren't verbatim fundamentalists. Thank God!

Most Christians are more interested in trying to understand the ‘spirit’ of the Bible and they don’t try to claim that it needs to be taken literally verbatim by every word. They view it as a spiritual texts, not as scientific textbook like Spidercmb does.

Yes, that's me attacking their statements by saying that what they had posted was incredibly stupid. (BTW, I bolded my whole statement, so that nobody gets confused) Now please show me where I said that Abra and/or Funches (not their statements!) were stupid. Thanks.

Just a reminder, you said "I would never describe abra as "stupid" " in response to my post. I really want to know when/where I called Abra "stupid".

Spider, I had vowed I would not bring this back up again as to not needing to prove to anyone the folly of believing in the bible as "truth", but in your case I will reiterate one more time. There are many many stories in the bible that cannot be taken literally or against proven science "doubt" will indubitably happen. I will point out the incestuous beginning of man as one of the greatest proofs that the bible cannot be taken literally. If you choose to believe in this book as divine or inspired by men of inspiration, cool, but you cannot prove it literally, there is no way to prove it. You are becoming angry or worked up over an undeniable fact that the bible is not meant as a literal text.

Spidercmb try taking responsibilty for the things you posts and stop trying to spin out of them all the time ...you always get "perturb" and start ranting about people and calling them stupid and trolls ....stand behind what you post and stop contradicting yourself all the time ...that's why it's hard to take what you say seriously..you change your views like the wind

I openly admit to calling your posts stupid and calling you a troll. I will not admit to something which I never did. Would you admit to doing something you didn't do? Seriously, a strong dose of reality is needed in this forum. I'm supposed to allow people to make false allegations against me and then pretend like they are true? Get real.

As I said before I am not religious, I just ask questions so that I may keep an open mind. One of my questions I answered myself by rereading the bible. Please make no mistake I am not religious. But I like to research my questons before I ask them so I don't feel silly.

Yes, please calm down Spider.

All Christians are not ‘verbatim fundamentalists’. In fact most are not.

I don’t know how to tell you this without breaking your heart,…. but I’m pretty sure that was just a dream when you thought you had been elected as the spokesperson for Christianity in general.

So chill out. Call your doctor, maybe she’ll give you some valium or something. flowerforyou

You claimed that I called Abra and Funches stupid. I asked you to back up that claim. I'm not sure what this post has to do with that. I'm not angry about it, I'm actually enjoying watching you squirm. You said something that isn't true about me. It's always good to do research and ask questions.

Nothing wrong with that. You should never feel silly for asking a question.

And please know that when it comes to religious topics, answers are genuinely a matter of personal preference. There are no absolutes in religion. This is why there are so many diffenent sects, etc.

Some Facts of Life,...

The clerics, of different Churches seldom agree on the answers to religions questions.

Even individual members of the congregations of a single church will seldom agree with each other on every issue.

Ultimately religion is a personal experience between you and God.

That’s necessarily the bottom line. happy

So always keep an open mind that you have the choice of which interpretations to choose and what you'd like to believe the parables and allegories of the Bible mean.

It's a personal experience between you and God. flowerforyou

laugh Sqirm? laugh You definitely assume too much in your capabilities there but to make the statement that there are "stupid statements" is saying people are stupid by making those statements. I only brought abra and funches into it because those were the two you included in the post. Maybe you were referring to others and I do not know of them to disagree with you there. It is not my job to pin you down and you can sqirm out from under it if you want, no skin for me either way. I posted my opinion on abra and funches making stupid statements, take it how you want to. Do I owe an apology for this? If so, I will willingly apologize with a heart felt apology but I do not see where that is a requirement in this situation.
