However with the age thing,

It's just sex so can't be compared to years of injustice, but do you think finally one little double standard goes in the ladies' favor?

As I get older, I just do not care what society thinks. My last lover was 30 and I am 54. Yup, the age thing is bs and it is about connection. Not doing the guy vs girl chit. Just do you and be happy.
We got stares and weird comments probably as much as the men with younger ladies get. Trust me, society judges older with younger whether you are a woman or a man.

I have noticed here that that whole weird woman thing (cougar, golddigger etc) is a thing in the US much more than over here.
When my girl was still in the US I learnt that the women having equal rights issue is far more an item in the US -at the very least in the south.
Even here it's noticeable: when men are way out of line with anti-woman posts, the women don't even seem to notice it while I am deeply shocked!

Saying age is just a number seems to be the political correct thing to say these days, like everything has to be political correct.
Personally I feel that is not necessary a good thing. Nothing wrong with people having different views even when to the extreme. We don't all have to think & feel the same. We're not clones and shouldn't pretend to be for the sake of being political correct.
I remember when I first got here in 2013 most people had a solidly & similar view on the age difference point: it does matter an awful lot.

I agree with what Ladywind says: be and do whatever you like and what you need to be happy. Provided of course it doesn't harm anyone :)

For me that means someone max 5 yrs older and a few yrs younger at the most, like 3 yrs tops. But my preference is a few yrs older.

I'm not too worried about others do in this regard. I guess I agree with the above, in doing what makes us happy as long as it doesn't harm anyone else.

For me, I'm not interested in dating younger. I'll date up to maybe 5 years older. My range is small. But I think at my age it matters (to me).

The general public even reacts to it differently - disgust for the dirty old man,
and the woman is out with her son, well, unless they are holding hands or
smooching, and then it’s shock.

it may seem to you that society is more accepting of a cougar having sex with a man old enough to be her son .. . But I am not convinced that is the case. (Perhaps mingle has skewed your perspective )

when it comes to social perceptions of either a cougar or a dirty old man .. their is a belief common to both .. that they are being used for their money , status or visa access .

The same for me. The range is small, but there should still be plenty of choice, hihi.

Maybe Mingle HAS skewed my views but I can't think of a male counterpoint to "Mrs. Robinson" (when referenced is not necessarily assumed "sugar mama").

I am quite sure noone thinks of the older James Bond as a dirty old man. Older people can and do have sex appeal.

I personally know a couple where he is 55 and she is 25. He is the best thing that ever happened to her. They are now 4 years strong. Noone thinks he is a dirty old man. Her family adore him.
