By paying attention and being honest with yourself.
Other than that, take steps to control your finances and any potential consequences you think occur from being "gold dugged."

IMO it's kind of like asking "how do you gauge if a girl is a cheater?"
It's too broad of a question.

No idea. I have never heard any Dutch man about it, nor women for that matter.
I'm guessing it's a cultural thing.
I wonder why US men keep talking about this? All I read here time and again is that all women have their own money, job, income, and often even their own home.
So what is your basis for there being gold diggers on every corner? Where does that discrepancy come from?
genuine questions.

I’ve heard the expression used here in the UK as well. But you’re right Sparkling Crystal it always seems to imply a woman being a gold digger when many of us are strong, self sufficient, independent women. Surely we are then the target for gold digging men

Hi Trixie!
I do think it'll happen everywhere every now and then, as you said from both genders as well. But I wonder if it's as bad as some seem to make us believe.
As for the UK, I remember some 16 yrs ago, when I was in touch with a lot of UK men (through gaming) that they complained a helluva lot about women, including their own wives. They were fly-traps, getting pregnant and then they were stuck with 'em, blablabla.
And I learnt at the time the UK indeed had a very high percentage of teenage pregnancies. I checked it now and read that it has decreased tremendously. As in 60% decrease compared with 2007.

So maybe every country has their own thing? And maybe the US has relatively more people who are after money?
I'm not saying it is so, I'm just interested.
What is typical for the Dutch, I don't know. May sound daft, but oftentimes it's outsiders that have a clearer view from the ones who are in the fire.

And yes, a lot of women do have their own income and jobs. The same here.

I think a lot of men in the UK are the same when it comes to divorce/breakups, left short of money paying the ex and maintenance for children.

There are lots of scammers online looking to relieve any unsuspecting person, male or female, of their hard earned cash.

Always awful when that happens. Over here it depends on income whether a partner pays for the ex, which in most cases would be for the female.
My ex couldn't afford to pay alimony for me, so I didn't get that, and I was fine with it as well. If there was one thing I didn't want was for him to have nothing left to rebuild a life.
But yeah, sometimes you have no choice. And like in my case, I gave up on my own career -and with that also building up a pension- to raise our kids. We had agreed to do it that way because it was best for our kids. Unfortunately you don't get pension for being a housewife and stay at home mother.
And I had a very promising career ahead of me, more so than him, now I have nothing myself. Otherwise I would've had savings, a great income, nice holidays, a much easier and pleasant life.
That side I feel is often overlooked. I don't blame him at all for me not having that great career with loads of money, although it would've been nice of course, haha.
But men seem to easier hold a grudge and not get over things and don't see the perspective, which is the woman's side of things.

Most women I encounter seem to have the natural expectation of being in a relationship is the same as being married.
They tend to believe whats mine is theirs.
They make assumptions based on 'since you love me and I love you, its okay to just assume we share everything'.

Its rare to be in a relationship with a woman who asks before taking.
Some women, especially at my age, have automatic marriage behavior.
The longer a relationship lasts, the more automatic marriage behavior becomes the norm.

I also see this in the men in long lasting relationships.
I even have to stop myself from time to time.
Its too easy to form assumptions.

Usually, when I sense assumptions are rising we sit down and talk about our relationship. Most of the time, she has no idea she is falling into marriage assumptions.
Luckily she is rational and an adult and able to 'see' what we are talking about. She takes no offense and I do not try to hurt her.
After we talk about it, our relationship quickly mends itself.

Many of her automatic marriage behaviors also benefit me. However, I'm not interested in married life and neither is she. When it happens, neither of us know we are doing it till something is said.

A lot of people think 'gold digging' is financial.
However, gold digging is when one person in the relationship assumes possession when no possession is granted.
Sugar mama/sugar daddy relationships are based on gold digging.
"Gold Digging" also causes hurt when relationships end.
Assuming possession of a person is slavery.

Many times, the one who feels possessed becomes resentful and the one who possesses feels cheated. Sometimes its the other way around.
It all boils down to assumptions.

She'll probably have a sad story for why she needs your money 24/7. She might also be extremely flirtatious and sexy to seduce men to get her whatever she wants.

I mean if you actually listen to trash pop culture songs, you have male song artists singing about how they buy the girl anything she wants just so he can get some of her.

Gold diggers look for weak men (no offense) and will take them for everything they got.

Some younger men seek a sugarmama.
Wanting to be financially supported.

He's a gold digger.

Not easy, but there are some signs:
1) She never pays or even OFFERS to pay for anything.
2) She always talks about money, especially yours.
3) She's living a lifestyle her job can't possibly support.
4) She starts demanding you pay her bills
5) She leaves you for a guy or gal with money.
