Obviously, in any Democracy the most vital and vulnerable part is it's voting system. These must be made as robust and tamper proof as possible if they are to avoid the possibility of fraud leading to a potential tyranny.

"It's not the voters that count. It's those that count the votes" - Joseph Stalin.

"Ballot stuffing was always an essential part of all the democracies that I've studied"-Seamus Zelazny Harper (no relation).

The founding intention was to allow "We The People" to remove the government if the government became tyrannical. Our "freedom" started out with freedom from an oppressive government and the founding fathers wrote protections into the constitution and bill of rights.

The Second Amendment was based partially on the right to keep and bear arms in English common law and was influenced by the English Bill of Rights of 1689. Sir William Blackstone described this right as an auxiliary right, supporting the natural rights of self-defense and resistance to oppression, and the civic duty to act in concert in defense of the state.

A foundation of American political thought during the Revolutionary period was concerned about political corruption and governmental tyranny.

Before a standing army can rule the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States.

Our current condition:
Originally, the Constitution and Bill of Rights protected US citizens against an over-bearing government.

Problem is, "We The People" Have given their power to the government because its easier to just let someone else call the shots. Its not about owning guns its about protections to keep our government in check and we are failing at that more and more as time passes.

The original system of State actually worked but we have given up our power.
Our government is broken. The 2nd Amendment gives the people the power to do something about our broken government but we choose to sleep instead.

The 2nd Amendment needs to stay in place because even though we are currently not of mind to do anything about our broken government our children, or their children may decide to replace it.

The 2nd Amendment gives "We The People" the right to change all the monkeys, by force if necessary. That's pretty important if you ask me...and you did.

This is what being a US Citizen means.
I know its a lot to read and most people will not read it but it affects each and every US citizen no matter race, color or creed.

Well organized militia

I suppose if the government was more harm than good, and the majority of the states were against it, that it could be overthrown. Though there could be better things, I like the US government.

The forefathers understood human nature enough to know that government (power in general) is easily corruptible. By making it so everyone has the same rights, power is more manageable, when it comes to the will of the people.

It seems like social distancing is the essence of personal protection.

Do not own others.
Don’t covet or lust of others.
Forgive.

Do not be owned.
Don’t idolize others.
Be not of the world.

The right to keep and bear arms is a natural, God-given right which is merely recognized and respected in the Constitution. With or without that document, every creature on the planet has the right to use any and all means at their disposal to protect themselves.

Some people want to know why we need guns? Because psychopaths always seek high positions of power, and often acquire them. It is merely an eventuality that these people will end up in positions where they can behave like tyrants, because there is little competition for these positions from decent, moral people. You see, decent, moral people do not desire to have power over others. After attaining these high positions, the psychopaths then they appoint pliable morons to manage the middle, and together they assume the rule over the rest of us. Because they are psychopaths, they will always demand greater and greater acts of sacrifice and obeisance from those they rule over, until the “subjects” have nothing left that they can submit to the king’s whims. No matter how much you give them, no matter how low you bow, it is never enough. Evil is never satisfied. That is why most governments don’t think we should have guns, and why we certainly need them.

The first reply went through twice, so I’m just wiping this one out.

I guess I’ll just add that I saw someone wrote that they thought America has more gun violence than any other nation. But the fact is, most nations have more violence than America, and if they had more guns in those places then they would have more gun violence.

The best way to protect against tyranny is a society of Voluntaryists. Don’t create positions of power and tyrants won’t occupy them. Neither can a would-be tyrant carve out his own position of power in a society that refuses to acknowledge it.

I disagree. Your voluntaryists should be plan "B". The BEST way to protect from tyranny are the checks and balances in a democratic system.

I don't necessarily believe your idea of voluntaryists is realistic either. In EVERY group, leaders will emerge - and where there is power, human nature kicks in and it gets abused. If the leaders don't have power, they'll be taken out by someone who does. Same reason why socialism will never work.

Take the idea of antifa. The media doesn't call these real fascists an organized group, because they have no "leaders" or "organizational structure". Truth is, they actually do, and the authorities know who these people are. They all have the same ideology and structure from coast to coast. It would be ideal if that were possible, but it can never be possible.

Well NeonNights, while I think your recently posted tastes in music are horrible you've gained my respect (if you care)!
I appreciate your excellent show of facts above and you can read my practical views on gun ownership on page 1 of this thread if you care to.
Your post above illustrates and expands on what I've said here several times; the first thing any would be dictator does is removes the guns from the populace, the rest is then easy for them.
My dad (RIP) was a Korean war Marine veteran who was awarded 3 purple hearts and a bronze star. For many years and on different vehicles he maintained a bumper sticker that read "I'll give up my gun when they pry it from my cold dead fingers" and I can promise that he meant it.
Most don't realize it but there are still plenty out there with the same beliefs. If in this country anyone tried to try to confiscate peoples guns it could quickly get very bloody.

Wow, nice reply for this discussion. Was it from a single source or did you gather this information?
Your picture looks adorable and you obviously have intelligence from the activity I've seen but like already said, you have horrible taste in music.

Back on topic.
There's more to the 2nd amendment than guns and gun control.
Its about independence from external control and the ability to make change in government when needed.

Said Best:
With guns, we are ‘citizens’. Without them, we are ‘subjects’.

(Or 'slaves').

One of the many disturbing catchphrases of the recent future is something about the military, etc... it goes....

"If you're not going to stand behind us, stand in front of us."

It's not necessarily about the ideals of any present leadership, etc. -just supposedly a cool (and very wrong) way of saying sometimes you gotta kick some butt.

However, it's just a slight tweak from "If you don't agree with us, you can be the enemy, too."

When I first started thinking about that catchphrase, I really didn't think the general population was capable of any sort of revolt -but I was not considering desperate times -or increasing tensions boiling over due to circumstance... or the increased power of a few words to make the difference between relative peace(depends where you live)/business as usual and ....pretty much civil war.

Still... it's a scenario which does not allow for avoidance overall that is a greater danger...
In other words, that which could set government/military against the general population and vice-versa ...a need to act overwhelming normal decision-making.

Especially now, but increasingly for some while, the general population has become less trusting of the government to have its best interest at heart. If something happened -natural or other disaster -way beyond the scope of hurricane Katrina, for example -which necessitated that the government -police -and perhaps even military -take widespread direct action to restore order of some kind, how willing would the general population be to take their direction (much less go with them someplace to be relocated) -if they thought fending for themselves was a better option?
It may sound farfetched, but there is already an underlying distrust on issues like the government taking everyone's guns -which would be exactly what they would do if they needed to manage large populations -even for their own good.

Anyway... ideally, "us" will be honorable, noble, concerned -so that the population CAN stand behind them... and the general population will act responsibly as citizens -so neither will together make the unthinkable a reality. No longer on "sides", we could have strength regardless of dire circumstance.

I don't currently have a gun. Maybe i wont again. While i don't like murderers i don't like the idea of not being able to have a gun. I lived in canada for 9 years and most of them had rifles for hunting and protection.
i have heard they are going after canadian's guns and rifles lately and i am sure it is because of the government control and what they believe will be push back.
i live in new orleans. there are horror stories here of the people that remained after katrina. it was the wild west. without a gun many were fair game.
i don't think they will go after the 2nd amendment completely though i hear there is a law going after ar rifles and magazines bigger than 10 bullets and calibers 50 and above....i think we need to stop this lock down and nonsense going on now, how is the issue...
