just like publicly expressing love for anyone else harmony: how is publicly expressing love for a human a NEED? There's TONS of individuals (including myself) who aren't afforded that opportunity. I don't see how it's a NEED.... needs are water, shelter, food, and rest there are no other true 'needs' the question about why this is a 'need' is a loaded question , as it is not a need and the point is not being a need its being a CHOICE like, I dont NEED to sit at the front of the bus,, but I should be afforded the CHOICE To do so Just don't understand how or even why you would be comparing public affection for God to public affection for loved ones. That's all. |

although I do understand its offensiveness, I would never choose the word when describing my loved ones in those abnormal lifestyles,, for instance
semantically, its a neutral term, in terms of offense to pervert (from websters): Alter (something) from its original course, meaning, or state to a distortion or corruption of what was first intended. |

Roy Costner IV, a former public school student from South Carolina, stunned the audience at his high school graduation last weekend when he ripped up his previously-approved valedictorian speech going on, instead, to speak about God — and then deliver the Lord's prayer. The act, which drew loud applause, was taken in opposition to the School District of Pickens County's decision to axe prayers from graduation events, Christian News reports. Officials said that they had recently received complaints from atheist activists and church-state separatists, leading to the removal of invocations from all school events. But that didn't stop Costner. All I am gonna say is this, I best not hear about anyone complaining if a Muslim prays publicly to Allah, or when any other religion or type of spirituality, has a public prayer for that matter, or even when an atheist chooses to make public his or her non belief. Because if you have the right to put yours out like this, so too do they, to say otherwise is hypocritical.
So yeah, you want your right to be seen/heard? Fine. But don't complain when someone else wants to do the same, because they deserve the same right then. |

All I am gonna say is this, I best not hear about anyone complaining if a Muslim prays publicly to Allah, or when any other religion or type of spirituality, has a public prayer for that matter, or even when an atheist chooses to make public his or her non belief. Because if you have the right to put yours out like this, so too do they, to say otherwise is hypocritical. So yeah, you want your right to be seen/heard? Fine. But don't complain when someone else wants to do the same, because they deserve the same right then. I wont. I just caution people to know their audience, and not 'complain' if they are or arent accepted, based upon what words they choose and how offensive they are to those in attendance,,, for instanc, I have no issue with a muslim getting up and thanking allah and asking for his guidance,,etc,, these are non offensive requests, if a christian gets up asking God to kill non christians, would be as offensive as a muslim asking Allah to kill non muslims theres alot to be said about Exactly WHAT the prayer is asking,, as opposed to just its source,,,its hard to find anything in the lords prayer that is offensive,,, our father, who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory for ever and ever amen NOW , for those not believing in God it seems it would be unimpactful as they just would not say amen or have to pray the prayer and there is no call in that prayer to harm anyone,, just to forgive, be forgiven, and be delivered,,, dont know how that can really be offensive to any thinking morally conscious person,,, |

If atheistic and agnostic students want to control what is said in valedictorian speeches, then they should strive to become valedictorians.
