I am not talking to you anymore cause you can't do anything except insult people. Go away. You are no help whatsoever in any way shape or form.

College today produces cogs in the wheel who don't have a drop of imagination or creativity and who are terrified to question authority.

So, addressing me as 'cog' wasn't intended to be an insult? Grow up. You have no clue about this subject and only intend to understand what you want to understand to prove a conclusion you wish to believe.

That is just stupid.

OMG I wonder where all this extra mass comes from?

JB are you really this stupid?

People just like plants get most of our matter from the atmosphere, and soil.

Yeh right. laugh
I think we get nutrients (energy) from the earth and sun, not "matter."

Yes, energy turns to matter eventually. I eat sugar and it turns into fat on my thigh.

NO. All of the energy that turned into matter did so eons ago. It takes FAR more energy to create matter than happen in nature to create you and me.

Sugar IS MATTER. Say it with me. Electrons are MATTER. Say it with me.

All the matter in the universe was created during the BB. We do not have matter being created in the earth JB. Its easier one of the stupidest things EVER.

To create matter artificially we have to dim the lights on massive grids to make a few particles that would make a helium atom look like the titanic next to a row boat. Far easier to release energy from matter, than to create matter from energy.

Man, the sci fi books I love eat up those kinds of ideas, but there is good practical reasons why its science fiction and not science.

PLAIN AND SIMPLE I believe YOU are wrong.
Matter is produced all the time.

E=MC 2 say it with me.

What happened eons ago is happening right now IN THIS VERY MOMENT.

SAY THAT WITH ME.

The big bang happens all the time in this very moment.
It is happening now.
Now is all that exists.

Perpetually.

Do you want to discuss the illusion of TIME??

It does not exist.

JB, why don't you ask a physicist?

he Question
(Submitted July 24, 1997)

Why is it impossible, at this point in time, to convert energy into matter?

The Answer
It happens all the time. Particle accelerators convert energy into subatomic particles, for example by colliding electrons and positrons. Some of the kinetic energy in the collision goes into creating new particles.

It's not possible, however, to collect these newly created particles and assemble them into atoms, molecules and bigger (less microscopic) structures that we associate with 'matter' in our daily life. This is partly because in a technical sense, you cannot just create matter out of energy: there are various 'conservation laws' of electric charges, the number of leptons (electron-like particles) etc., which means that you can only create matter / anti-matter pairs out of energy. Anti-matter, however, has the unfortunate tendency to combine with matter and turn itself back into energy. Even though physicists have managed to safely trap a small amount of anti-matter using magnetic fields, this is not easy to do.

Also, Einstein's equation, Energy = Mass x the square of the velocity of light, tells you that it takes a huge amount of energy to create matter in this way. The big accelerator at Fermilab can be a significant drain on the electricity grid in and around the city of Chicago, and it has produced very little matter.

Has it ever occurred to anyone that the "big bang" was not very big at all? In fact, it was tiny.

Its still happening. But it is so tiny we can't see it. Or maybe it is only happening in David Bohm's enfolded order of reality.

For that matter, where does any mass come from?

Where the does energy come from that made the mass that made the universe?

The question of where does the mass come from is a good one, and maybe the scientist that asked that question should start working on that problem.

Have you considered enrolling in further education? It is helpful in understanding the world around us.

Above I actually am asking questions. I have heard what basic science 101 has to say about these things... the Big bang etc.

But where does any mass really come from? I think it all has to do with vibration and frequency... but what do I know? Nothing.)

I don't really think science has the answers to these all of questions. They observe, report and name things and they make statements. But most of the time they don't have the kinds of answers that are really important.

Where does the energy come from that made the mass (or the big bang if you believe that) that made the universe as we know it?

They will say that this element and that element got together and created some other element etc. laugh

.. where did these elements come from?

Do asteroids really bring life and DNA to planets? Does a volcano in the bottom of the ocean really spit out tiny one celled organisms?

Are these not forms of life in some stage of development? If DNA is not "live" then is it not a formula for life? Where does this formula come from?

Where do these forms of life come from? What makes them alive? At what point does any bit of "matter" go from being "not alive" to alive?

Have I considered enrolling in further education?

The answer is NO. I am curious, yes, but I DON'T much respect today's academia because I see what they are cranking out.

Even our high schools are cranking out idiots who can't even read.

Even when I did go to college, my English teacher came up to me and told me that I was the only person in the class that could construct a sentence. She said these other students should have never graduated High School. She could not understand how they got into College. I will tell you how. The College's just want your money.

No one has posted anything that "proves me wrong." I asked for someone to prove that it is "impossible" for the earth to be growing.

The only thing I have gotten so far, is a condescending video that asks the question ... if the earth is growing, where is all the extra mass coming from?

That's it so far.

Has anyone an answer to the question of the ancient fish fossils found on the upper plates (land masses) that are older than anything ever found in the ocean bed?

I am sorry, but I already answered that on page one or page two.

I also took you seriously, and gave you two serious answers on why the earth may be alive or not, if it grows.

I also gave you the best answer at our present knowledge why the Earth does not necessarily grow.

I took your questions seriously, and gave you the best of my answers to them.

I was at first buffled by all this belligerence by others toward you. I now feel a bit for them, have some understanding for them. Because you ask for answers, and when you get them, in my case, at least, you slide over the answers, and disregard them.

That cowboy religious guy used to do that when I was in the religion forum. He irritated me to no end.

Now you are starting to do the same.

I don't mind it so much from you, but it does damage my ability to take you seriously next time and to give you a serious, well-thought out, informative answer, to the extent of course that I am capable of.

Do as you will. I won't interfere any more with your thoughts. There is no way I can, that's why I give up on trying. From where I sit it seems like you decide on one thing and keep asking things that would establish its invalidity, and when you get those very answers, you slide over them.

I appreciate your attempt to answer. I did not disregard it.

These were my questions:

How would you explain the fact that
1. The surface of the continents are older than the bottom of the ocean?

2.
How would you explain the fact that the continents all fit perfectly together when you shrink the earth?

Here was your answer:

Answer:

The tectonic plates move away from each other, that`s where the bottoms of the oceans `come up` to the surface. This supports your theory, JB.

So are you saying here that the land we are on currently used to be the bottom of the ocean? I don't understand why the tectonic plates (under the ocean?) are/were moving away from each other or how that would cause them to "come up" to the surface.

On the other hand, where tectonic plates approach each other, the crust of the earth gets `pinched` and there are mountains that grow up, and they also grow downwards as well. This neither supports nor disproves the `growing eath` as well as the `non-growing earth` theories.

Where the tectonic plates move and there is no other tectonic plate near or next to it, in its direction of movement, then the ocean bottom falls down and slips under below.

Slips under and below what? The continents?

This is observed in the west side of the United States. The tectonic plate under it is moving away from the European tectonic plate, and the North American plate is sailing, so to speak, toward the west. West of the USA is the Pacific Ocean, which is new, fresh, crust material. As the west coast of Cali and others move in that direction, there is a little `pinching`, hence the Rockies, but there is a lot of buckling under of the Pacific Ocean bottom to go under. This buckled-under dirt goes and sinks directly down, and probably heats up in the mantle. In the meantime, the American Rockies are not like the Himalayas. The Himalayas are pinched by two tectonic plate`s collision: Between the Deccan and the Asian plates. The H. mountains are therefore quicly rising, and narrow in width. The Rockies are quickly rising to us, but it`s not, and the reason they are tall, is because they`ve been gathering materal for their height in their entire travel away from Europe and Africa. This makes the Rockies tall, but also wide. The Himalayas and the Alps are not wide. The mountains around the Arab plate (under the Arabian Peninusula) and Africa are also high, and quickly rising. But the Andes, which is going west as well, form Africa, is less quickly rising, but has been constantly rising for a long time, and for three thousand miles. Watch the East side of South America: not much elevation, as it is a part that has been trailing the West side, just tagging along, without collecting anything from the process.

The process of new crust buckling under is a process that makes it possible to know or to believe, that the Earth is not growing.
Edited by wux on Tue 09/18/12 04:42 PM

All of that is very hard to understand.

The gist of what you are trying to say, I think, is that the billions of years old fossils found in Colorado, you claim, were once way under the ocean, and because of some deep plates moving around under all of that, they rose to the surface.

That still does not explain why the continents all seem to fit together when you shrink the earth.

I have heard the claim that the continents were once one big continent and the rest of the earth was just water, then they broke apart and spread around.

I can't envision that.

True, I never studied science at University either (apart from a few metallurgy subjects in order to gain a better understanding of ancient technology). Geology is one of my hobbies and I can't recall doing much in biology (apart from the usual bedroom explorations) , but I do know the difference between life forms and silicates-that much is obvious to most people.

My point was, that a little higher/further education may help the OP understand the world around her so that she may not succumb to every stupid idea that goes before her. This religious the 'Earth is alive' dogma is so primitive it predates civilisation. It shouldn't even be in this section, but where 'woo' is discussed.
